FROM THE PASTORS DESK
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Members and Friends of the Hill United Presbyterian Church: The weekend of June 25 and June 26, 2011, we began the celebration of our Centennial Year as The Hill Church in ministry and mission for our Lord Jesus Christ! Over these one-hundred years of ministry led by the Holy Spirit, think of the scores, hundreds and thousands of lives that have been touched and transformed by the love of Jesus Christ through the Second United Presbyterian Church (now the Hill Church)! St. Andrews Presbyterian is our Mother Church (once upon a time the First United Presbyterian Church of Butler). With that in mind, on June 26th, we had a wonderful joint worship service with St. Andrews in their building on the corner of South McKean and Jefferson streets. Their sign of greeting read Welcome Home Hill U.P. Church! I remarked that it is always good to visit your Mother! What a tremendous visit we experienced as Pastor Merry Meloy and the congregation welcomed us home with open arms. We prayed and sang together; had joint musical offerings together; read Gods Word and preached together; finally, we fellowshipped together. It is good to be a part of Gods people in Jesus Christ! See you throughout the Centennial year! Also, please remember to thank God and to pray for our nation on the celebration of the Fourth of July. Thank-you very much. Grace to you and Peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! Pastor Clark Rev. Clark Sawyer

@St. Andrews

The Bible says that is it important that we not neglect the habit of meeting together regularly in the worship of God. For it is in the worship of God that we are stirred up to love and good works. Come to worship and be stirred up! By the way, invite and bring others with you to be stirred up also! Thank-you very much.

THANK OFFERING SERVICE

To transfer the balance of $3,884.96 from the Hill Fund to the Churchs general fund to help improve the Churchs cash position. 5. WOMENS TEA THROUGH THE YEARS

On Saturday, September 17 at 1:00 in the afternoon, all women and girls are invited to a Tea. We plan to have a style show featuring the styles of the past century. As we are now celebrating our centennial year, it will be interesting to look back over the last 100 years and enjoy the styles as they have changed. We are requesting that anyone who may have clothing (dresses, etc.) from the years gone by, and are willing to loan them for the show, please contact Bea Welch at 724-482-4834 or Carolyn Stutz at 724-287-4800. Also, dress forms would be useful for dresses too fragile to be modeled.

HILL CHURCH: OUR PRESENT OUR FUTURE LIGHTING THE WAY FOR THE NEXT CENTURY Future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn. Psalm 22:30-31
The Stewardship and Mission Support Committee is pleased to report that the response to Phase II of our Centennial Capital Campaign has been wonderful. Thanks to your generosity we are 84.7% of the way to meeting our goal of $140,000. $118,662 has be pledged to date with $35,354.30 collected thus far. As you know during Phase II we expect to repair, refurbish and upgrade our century old Church. Projects to be completed include: replacing flooring in various areas of the Church, refurbishing our fellowship hall, replacing sanctuary lighting and upgrading the churchs electrical system. So far plastering has been completed in the fellowship hall and both it and the kitchen will soon be receiving a fresh coat of paint. The new flooring has been ordered and should be installed in August. If you have not already done so please prayerfully consider making a pledge to our Centennial Capital Campaign. Because the campaign is being run from June 2011 through June 2012 your pledge can be made in small payments that will not put too much of a strain on your personal budget. For example, making a pledge of $1,000 might be impossible for the average family to make if they had to write a check for the entire amount today. Making this same pledge of $1,000 is much more doable when the gift is made as $10 per week for the two year campaign period. For your convenience a pledge card is attached to this newsletter. It can be mailed to the church office or placed in the offering plate.

NEW WINDSOR MISSION TRIP

The dates for our mission trip this year are October 3-5, 2011. We have 2 women planning to attend. It is a worthwhile trip. On the 3rd, we leave early in the morning and take a stop at Fallingwater, where we will tour the house and grounds, and then have lunch at Penn Alps. Then we arrive at New Windsor before dinner. On the 4th and 5th, we work in the SERRV rooms or in the warehouse, sorting incoming items and preparing items to be sent out to disaster and needy areas many of them to disaster areas all around the United States. We travel by bus and take with us school kits or health kits made by our circles, plus rolled bandages, quilts, and also good used sheets to be used on hospital beds from our Willing Workers. Contact Kelly Provident or Bea Welch for more information.

Also, thank you to Peg McGuirk for her beautiful piano/organ duets with St. Andrews organist, Chuck Davey. And, to Tommy Walters for the wonderful handbell duet with St. Andrews handbell director, Susan Moon. So much beautiful and meaningful music when we combined our efforts was wonderful!!!!

Thanks also to Loretta Dougherty and Jane Kennedy for use of their sewing machines and other equipment, and to Jane Kennedy and the Hill Quilters for fabric donations. Also, special thanks to Jane Kennedy, Chris Leroy, Gerry Graham, Lin Ellis and Pam Lentz for all of the work that they are doing at home!

We accomplished a lot, but there is much left to do! The next costume workshop date
for volunteers is Friday, July 8, 1:00-8:00 P.M. There will be a dinner break from 4:00-5:00 P.M. We will be working in the preschool room downstairs. Come when you can and leave when you like. Bring your iron, if you have one, and sewing machine, if you can. Sharp scissors are needed, too! ~Jennifer Gilliland

WILLING WORKERS Willing Workers meet every 1st and 3rd Thursday morning at 9:30 A.M. in the Fellowship Hall of the church. If you have some free time either or both of these days, we would be happy to have you join us. It is a time of fellowship and there are a number of projects we work on. Gloria Miller is our leader and she finds something for everyone to do. There are coupons to clip, stamps to be cut from envelopes, knotting quilts, rolling bandages. Each month, a not of encouragement is made and given to Meals on Wheels to be included with their clients meal. We always appreciate donations of bed sheets. Good, usable sheets are sent to Church World Service to be used in hospitals for their beds. Very worn sheets are torn in strips and used to make rolled bandages. We appreciate all the support we receive from the congregation. Many Thanks, Bea Welch (Moderator of P.W.)

The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable.

Join the Deacons for an Ice Cream Social in the dining room following worship on Sunday, July 31.

I want to thank Hill Presbyterian Church for the extremely thoughtful gift. I will take the cross to college as a reminder of Gods constant love. I especially want to thank Kathy Sawyer and Peg McGuirk. Their countless hours of preparation and practice have given the youth of Hill and other community churches so many opportunities we might never have gotten without Kathys lead. Hill Youth Chorale allowed me to perform, but more importantly, to share Gods love with others around the country. Thank you for including me in your church family. Love, Logan Olszewski
