Question: How difficult is it to set up a network with HomePlug AV Wireless N Extender? Answer: Unpack the devices, plug them in, and you have a network. Even the most inexperienced users can set up the network with ease. No installation is required - just plug and play. The HomePlug AV Wireless N Extender Utility software is only needed when assigning security to protect the network against intruders. Question: How can I change my Private Network Name? Answer: 1. Install and Open HomePlug AV Wireless N Extender Utility. 2. Click HomePlug> Private Network Name. 3. Type the new Private Network Name. This field is case sensitive. It accepts 8 to 64 alphanumeric characters including punctuation marks but no spaces.
4. Click Apply. When the process is complete, the message Settings Applied appears

Question: How do I set my wireless security on my Wireless Extender? Answer: 1. Install and open the HomePlugAV Wireless N Extender utility 2. Connect your HomePlug AV Wireless N extender to which you are running your utility. 3. Under Home Tab select the Network card to which the device is connected (To confirm that you have selected the correct network card devices MAC address will be displayed). 4. Select Wireless then configure your wireless security on the Security Type.

Question: How do I pair my devices using the Simple Connect Button?


Answer:

1. Plug your HomePlug AVs side by side where you can easily observe the LED behavior. Upon connection, the LEDs will blink simultaneously and then the Power LED lights on steadily. 2. Press Simple Connect Button for two seconds on HomePlug AV. After you release the button, the Power LED will blink. If the Power LED did not blink, press Simple Connect Button again for two seconds. 3. Press Simple Connect Button for two seconds on HomePlug AV Wireless Extender. After you release the button, the Power LED will blink. If the Power LED did not blink, press Simple Connect Button again for two seconds. Make sure to press Simple Connect Button on HomePlug AV Wireless Extender within two minutes after you press Simple Connect on HomePlug AV. 4. To confirm if the connection was established, check the LEDs. The Power LEDs and the Powerline Activity LEDs on both HomePlugs are ON. The Power LED on both devices will stop blinking. 5. Unplug the HomePlug AVs and then connect them to your Ethernet devices using the Ethernet cables from the product package. After connecting the Ethernet cable, plug the HomePlugs directly to a wall outlet. 6. When the Powerline Activity LED on either HomePlug is OFF, this means the pairing is not successful. In this case, you need to redo the entire process again. Question: How do I pair my new devices with my existing HomePlug AV network? Answer: If your existing network is still using the default Private Network Name and has not been changed from the first time use, you just need to plug into the wall socket your HomePlug AV Wireless N extender and it will automatically pair with your existing network. If your Private Network Name has been changed: 1. Plug in the new HomePlug AV Wireless N Extender beside one of your existing HomePlug AV. 2. Press the Simple Connect Button of the HomePlug AV Wireless N Extender for 10 seconds to randomize the Private Network Name.

3. Press the Simple Connect Button for 2 seconds from your existing HomePlug AV. 4. Press the Simple Connect Button again for 2 seconds on your HomePlug AV Wireless N Extender. 5. PL-ACT on your HomePlug AV Wireless N Extender will light up to confirm that it has successfully joined the existing network. Question: Which operating systems (OS) are compatible with HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter? Answer: HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter is OS independent and it only requires devices with an Ethernet port to get connected. However, the HomePlug AV Wireless N Extender Utility is supported by Windows XP/Vista/Win 7. The HomePlug AV Utility also requires the .NET Framework 1.1 to be installed. Question: Which devices do I need for the initial installation of a HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter network? Answer: You always need two adapters for the initial installation. If you want to connect your network to the Internet, you need at least one adapter to be connected to an ADSL/Cable modem (only one participant of the network can use the Internet) or to an ADSL modem router (all participants of the network can use the Internet at the same time). Question: Can my neighbour listen to my data when he is connected with the same power supply? Answer: Your electric meter damps the signal enormously and represents a natural barrier to your neighbour. However, if you have unfavourably lying power supply lines it is possible that your neighbour benefits from an unmeant phase coupling. We absolutely advise you to use the internal device encryption! By using the HomePlug AV Utility to enter the network password that is different from the factory default will activate the encryption.

Question: How safe are my data? Is it possible to tap them in some way? Answer: We absolutely advise you to use the internal device encryption. By using the HomePlug AV Wireless N Extender Utility to enter the network password that is different from the factory default will activate the encryption. Question: Is the technology of the HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter backward compatible to HomePlug 1.0(85Mbps)? Answer: No. Question: If there is already 85Mbps HomePlug Turbo devices being used in the network, can HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter be integrated into the existing network? Answer: Yes, devices based on HomePlug 1.0 and HomePlug AV standards CAN COEXIST. However, HomePlug 1.0-compatible devices CANNOT exchange data directly with HomePlug AV devices. Question: In the case of PCs at the different floors of the same building, can they use the HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter for the data transmission? And how does it work? Answer: HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter works on the same electric phase within the same physical line. If the electric wires between the two outlets used for communications in this case are connected with each other and the maximum distance is about 200m, it works fine. Question: Why does the PL-ACT LED on my HomePlug AV change its color from Green to Amber or Red? Answer: The LED changes its color depending on the Physical Connection Rate between the Homeplugs, if the LED is on Green color the connection rate is 80Mbps and above, Amber is 30 Mbps 80Mbps and Red is below 30 Mbps.

Question: How many HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter can be use in one Network? Answer: 8 devices. Question: What is the Estimated Range HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter will still have a connection thru power line? Answer: Approximately 200 meters in wall power lines (one household). Question: As the transmission range of HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter is around 200 meters, what happens if the distance is over say 400 meters? Answer: We recommend trying the powerline for functionality and performance before starting operations. Question: Are standard 100 Mbps network adapters fast enough for HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter, or are Gigabit Ethernet adapters required for use with HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter? Answer: Under ideal conditions, HomePlug AV 200Mbps Ethernet Adapter has a physical gross data rate of up to 200 Mbps. The effective net data rate is somewhat lower. A 100 Mbps network adapter is therefore adequate in most cases.
