Biography: Barack Hussein Obama was born on August 4th , 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

At the time of his birth, Obamas parents were students at the EastWest Center of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Obamas parents separated when he was two years old and later divorced. Obamas father went to Harvard to study and then returned to Kenya. His mother married Lolo Soetoro, another EastWest Centre student from Indonesia. In 1967, the family moved to Jakarta, and four years later when Barack (commonly known throughout his early years as "Barry") was ten, he returned to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents, Madelyn and Stanley Dunham, and later his mother (who died of ovarian cancer in 1995). He was a very good student and was only one of three black students at the school. This is where Obama first understood racism and what it meant to be an AfricanAmerican. His father died in an accident in 1982 and up to this time, he only saw him a few times. He admitted to using cochaine and other drugs whilst he was a teenager. After high school, Obama studied at Occidental College in Los Angeles for two years. He then went to Columbia University in New York, graduating in 1983 with a degree in Political Science. After working at the Business International Corporation, Obama moved to Chicago in 1985. There, he worked as a community organizer with poor people. He pracitised as a Civil Rights Lawyer. He published his autobiography in 1995. In 2000 he was elected as a illinoise State Senate where he achieved many things for poorer people. Obama does not think that all wars are wrong just dum ones. He was raised within a Muslim community but at some point became an atheist. However, he joined the United Church of Christ at a later date.
