The Antarctic krill lives in the unpolluted coldest and most pristine waters on earth. It also holds very potent digestive enzymes that make it unsuitable for trawling because it practically self destructs very quickly when taken out of the water for processing. Eco-harvesting means the processing equipment stays under water while a continuous stream of water brings the fresh raw krill on board the factory vessel. This allows for processing of fresh raw material on board the floating life science factory which means bioactive components are retained for superior quality. This means that the krill oil obtained are of the purest and highest quality without any adulteration. There are many krill oil products sold today where it is produced from small batches and multiple small sources that are pooled together to make one batch for production. These cannot be considered pure krill oil.

Osumex Antarctic Pure Krill Oil is rich in natural Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Astaxanthin a very powerful antioxidants giving the rich red colour. Due to the presence of Astaxanthin content which is recognized for its health-promoting free radical suppression no additives are required to maintain the integrity and purity of the krill oil in the vegetable soft gel capsule. Most fish oil supplements on the other hand require much additives to ensure viability and to maintain shelf-life. In addition a significant proportion of the long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids in the krill oil is in phospholipid form. In contrast, the Omega-3 in dietary supplements derives from cod liver, seal and or fish oils are almost exclusively Omega-3 triglyceride fatty acids. Phospholipids Omega-3 fatty acids are water dispersible and this affects the way our body can absorb and utilize the Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 phospholipids are more easily digestible and absorb in the bodys small intestines. Studies have shown that Omega-3 phospholipids are more effectively distributed to tissues and cells than Omega-3 triglycerides and therefore considered a superior source for building and maintaining cell structures and promoting cellular functions. Studies have also shown that the Omega-3 bound phospholipids are far less prone to oxidations than Omega-3 in traditional triglyceride forms. The presence of the powerful antioxidant Astaxanthin inhibits fatty acids oxidation thus preserving and prolonging product shelf life. It therefore secures a stable oil product within the vegetable soft gel capsule.
Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin has been studied and research extensively and available in synthetic form. It is a carotenoid belonging to a larger class of phytochemicals known as terpenes and a colourful, lipidsoluble pigment. For humans Astaxanthin is valuable as an antioxidant and its property makes it ideal for boosting the function of the immune system. The effectiveness of Astaxanthin is significantly higher than other carotenoids such as lycopene and lutein and even considered at least ten (10) times more effective than beta-carotene and may be as much as five hundred (500) times more powerful than Vitamin E. Astaxanthin unlike some carotenoids does not convert to Vitamin A (retinol) in the human body. Too much Vitamin A is toxic for a human but Astaxanthin is not. Astaxanthin is absorbed by the duodenal mucosa and transported to the liver where it binds with a lipoprotein for transport

throughout the body to the cells. The polar end groups attach to the outer and inner side of the cell membrane, where free radical attacks first occur. The hydroxyl and carbonyl groups in Astaxanthin help to anchor this molecule to the cell membrane, thus strengthening it. Astaxanthin in addition to entrapping free radicals, also de-charges singlet and triplet oxygen and inhibits reactive oxygen, giving it anti-inflammatory properties. Astaxanthin may also increase gap junctional communication between cells, which is a mechanism in the body thought to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It is a valuable as an antioxidant and can have a beneficial impact on preventing the development of cardiovascular or heart diseases. It can also be of benefit to the function of the eyes, brain and the nervous system because Antaxanthin does cross the blood-brain barrier.
