Publicly and privately owned media First of all, we have to define what publicly owned and what privately owned media are. The

privately owned media is the one that is owned by a person or a group of people: they can decide everything inside the corporation and can be sold to another person. An example can be Mexican television companies: Televisa and TvAzteca, both of them are the principal TV broadcasters in the country and both are private owned. The publicly owned media belongs to everyone and to no one as well, this kind of media is receiving some or all the funding for the public. In some countries, media is run by anorganization; examples of this are the BBC and the Australian Broadcasting. Secondly we are mentioning the principal advantages of each kind of media. Publicly owned media have lots of advantages because is owned by the users so you can think is better that you decide what is going to be broadcast or not. The most important to mention is that is well known that publicly owned media transmits higher quality media products, as the very famous BBC documental or series. As well, traditionally, this media is concerned with public s taste, because public literally owns the corporation. It always tries to serve all kind of interests from the audience, and tries to provide services that will satisfy everyone all the time. Then, is important to mention the disadvantages as well. Talking about the publicly owned media we can talk about the fees. Sometimes publicly owned media (as BBC) charge fees to their users to provide them with TV, radio and internet services. Here is the problem: many of this fees may increase because they are based on the economic situation of the country; a certain country inflation can change the operation costs, and as a result, the corporation may need to raise the fee s amount to users.

As well, can be mentioned that due to the fact that publicly owned media transmits higher quality, users have to pay an extra amount of money to receive an extra service, or specific channels. As we mentioned before, this kind of media is concerned of public s taste, but this can result in programs or services that don t have a lot of audience and these ones can fail in being profitable for the corporation, affecting in this way its revenues and finances. At last, is known that this media can be strongly politically influenced, because the government of each country can control each transmission. To continue, now is the turn of the well-known privately owned media. The mayor benefit this media give the users is that is absolutely not influenced by anyone, nor government or people. It is supposed that any journalist is told what to say. No one can influence the media outside the corporation. The other advantage is that this media is paid by the sponsors or the advertisers, so the users didn t have to give any pay for enjoying the entertaining. The disadvantages of privately owned media are that the quality is absolutely down. The media corporations always think of quantity, not quality; so they are more focused on profits than in objective, important and relevant news. Very bad programs are also an inconvenience, because the corporations are trying to take the biggest advantage they can of advertising, so they include more and more shows or broadcast that people may or may not like, with tons of advertising between each show. If you want to choose exactly what you want to watch, you will have to pay a higher amount of money for certain channels, as PayPerView or some good movie channels. Finally, the fact that the media is owned by somebody, can result in the case the broadcasting can be chose by this person or people, depending in the earnings of the company or the taste of the owners. In conclusion, the perfect media has to be a combine one, taking good points of each one and reducing or eliminating the bad ones. A perfect media has to be that one where users receive great quality broadcasting, with a small amount of advertising between each program, but taking off all the advertising when a movie is being transmitted. People will not pay any fee for receiving the service because advertisers will still pay for them.
