Requirements

Knitting Needles: Pair 7mm (UK2) needles.

Standard Tension

On 7mm needles, 11 sts and 20 rows to 10 cm (lace patt), 11 sts and 16 rows to 10 cm (stocking st).

Shape armhole

Caution

It is important to work to the stated tension and we cannot accept liability for the finished product if any yarn other than the specified yarn is used. It is advisable to knit a tension square before starting. If you have too many stitches or rows to 10 cm then use a larger needle; if you have too few stitches, use a smaller needle.

Next row Cast off 5 sts, patt to end (25 [27, 30, 32] sts). Cont in patt until armhole meas 12 [13, 13, 14] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape armholes

Keeping patt correct, cast off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows (49 [53, 59, 63] sts). Cont in patt on these sts until armhole meas 21 [22, 22, 23] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape neck

Next row (RS), patt to last 5 sts, turn and leave rem sts on a safety-pin. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 5 [5, 5, 6] rows (15 [17, 20, 21] sts). Work straight until armhole meas 21 [22, 22, 23] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape Shoulders

Cast off 8 [8, 10, 10] sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 7 [9, 10, 11] sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Leave rem 19 [19, 19, 21] sts on a spare needle.

With 7mm needles, cast on 19 sts and work in patt as on 81-86cm size of Back for at least 12 cm. Cast off. Block out before measuring. Read through the instructions carefully before starting. It is advisable to circle each of the figures relating to your size with a coloured pencil before starting to knit. Where only one number is quoted, this refers to all sizes.

With 7mm needles, cast on 23 [23, 25, 25] sts loosely and work in garter st for 5 rows. Shape shoulder RIGHT FRONT

end of 5th and every 4th row until there are 27 [31, 31, 33] sts, then on every foll 6th row until there are 47 [49, 49, 51] sts, taking inc sts into patt. Work straight until Sleeve meas 44 [45, 46, 46] cm, ending with RS facing for next row. Place markers at each end of next row. Cont in patt for a further 10 rows, ending with RS facing. Cast off.

Make Up

Block out garment pieces to size with pins to ensure even shaping. Cover with a damp towel and leave for 1 hour. Remove towel and leave to dry. Join shoulder seams.

Neck Border

With RS facing and 7mm needles, starting at right front neck, K5 from safety-pin, knit up 16 [16, 18, 20] sts up right side of neck, K19 [19, 19, 21] from back, knit up 16 [16, 18, 20] sts down left side of neck then K5 from safety-pin at left front neck (61 [61, 65, 71] sts). Work in garter st for 4 rows. Cast off evenly.

Left Front Border

With RS facing and 7mm needles, starting at cast-on edge, knit up 71 [73, 73, 73] sts up right front to top of Neck Border. Work in garter st for 4 rows. Cast off.

Right Front Border

With RS facing and 7mm needles, starting at top of Neck Border, knit up 71 [73, 73, 73] sts down left front to cast-on edge. Work in garter st for 4 rows. Cast off. Place centre of cast-off edge of sleeves to shoulder seams then sew Sleeves to Fronts and Back, sewing rows above markers to cast-off sts at base of armhole. Join side and Sleeve seams. On a clean towel, block out garment by carefully pinning all round outer edges, ensuring body of garment is not pulled out of shape. Cover with a damp cloth and leave to dry. Hand wash in lukewarm water, taking care to support item when wet. Dry flat on a clean towel, nudging carefully into shape whilst damp. Do not dry hand-knitted items in harsh sunlight as fading or yellowing may occur. Do not iron. Do not bleach. Do not tumble dry.
