Ex 9:18-35 Plague of hail smote every herb of the field, broke every tree. Flax and barley smitten; wheat and rye were not smitten, for they were not grown up. Winter wheat, 4 months of 7 to maturity, would have been destroyed. Spring wheat had not yet been planted, or at least had not sprouted out of the ground, so would not have been affected by the hail. NOTE: If Pentecost is related to the giving of the law, why do the Israelites arrive at the Mount 7 days after the traditional day of Pentecost, and 43 days before Moses is given the tables of stone?
John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? The events of this scene take place during Abib at Passover, from John 2:13 to John 4:35. Jesus turns the tables at the temple at Passover season, John 2:13-16; meets with Nicodemus 3:1-21; visits John the Baptist 3:22-26; heads toward Galilee 4:1-3; rested in Samaria 4:4; encounters the woman at the well 4:7-26; then meets with the disciples when they return with food. It is at this meeting this statement in John 4:35 is made. This takes place during the first month of Abib, when the spring wheat would have been planted early in the month, taking 4 months to harvest time.

The journey to Jerusalem, in the simple, patriarchal style, took place amidst the beauty of the springtime, the richness of midsummer, or the ripened glory of autumn. Compiled from Educ pgs 41-42 EGW
