WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 1, 1862 Cloudy & warm, pleasant & part of the day thawy, but came up very

windy & cold this eve. Tended planing machine, grist mill & cracker some. Got in some short boards. Helped some about getting out cask heads. Handed up boards & c. THURSDAY 2 Clear but very cold & very windy. The wind last night blew the board all about. Could feel the house rock the wind blew so hard. Have not done a great deel to day. Sorted out some boards & got in l load of heading & stufed them. Fixed some broken clothes dryers. Setup some casks & c. FRIDAY 3 Clear but very cold & very windy. Sorted some boards & handed them up & plained some. Straitened some boards for Mr. Mires. Tended cracker & grist mill some. Picked up lot of sort boards that the wind spread & got them into the mill. Large load went to C. Tiltons with a load of boxes & some boards to Mires & c. & c.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 7, 1862 Cloudy part & pleasant part of the day & cool. Worked on the Slead, fixing it, making new sides & c. Helped wash the buggy. Tended cracker & grist mill some & c. Alvah & Martha went to Framingham. SATURDAY, JANUARY 4, 1862 Very pleasant & very cold & windy. Tended planing machine & grist mill & cracker. Set up some casks, got out lot of ice from the rack & c & c. Forgot the rest. SUNDAY 5 Very pleasant but cold & windy. Went to meeting all day. Rev. Horrace Parker preached. Emeline went with us in P.M. Alvah went with his covered carriage. We didnt go in the eve. MONDAY 6 Snowed most all day but little snow fell. Clear this eve. Went after a washing machine. Went all about the village before I could find it. Roofed over lot of the boards & picked up the scattering ones. Carried C. Tilton a load of boxes. Went to store & got a bbl flour & a plank for to fix the slead. Worked fixing the slead & c & c. Got out some stuff __?__. WEDNESDAY 8 Very pleasant & cool, warm P.M. Worked on the slead a while, than went to Greenwoods (the blacksmiths) & got it ironed. Finished it. Boarded some heads for dowells. Tended cracker & grist mill & c. Mahlon Daniels & wife came here to day & I sold my Wright lot to him for $125., throwing in what he owes me. Cought a large rat. THURSDAY 9 Cloudy & warm most of the day. Shut the water out of the floom & A. & I went & got some sticks from under the wheel. Went to the blacksmiths & got the wagon fixed. Drawed the 5 ft boards in to the mill, 3 load. Put some heads together & c & c. Emeline went to Hopkinton with John & Sarah & Harriet. Alvah went to __?__ __?__.

very pleasant & cold. Carried a bbl of flour back to Wiggins & a letter to the P.O. & bought a bbl of flour at Geo. Joneses. Tended grist mill & cracker & plaining machine & handed up some boards. TUESDAY 14 Cloudy A.M. Very pleasant P.M. & cold. Tended plaining machine. Went to South Framingham with a load of boxes, part to __?__ , part to Hanson & a load of casks to Mr. Alden to night & c & c. WEDNESDAY 15 Very stormy snow in A.M. & rain in P.M. Was coming come in morn but didnt as it stormed so but Edmond came after us with the horse shod at Greenwoods. E & I started for home about 1 P.M. Ed staid there. We got home about 5 oclock. In morn I picked up & piled back some bords. & c.

Cloudy Warm & thawy. Began to storm some toward night. Boared & dowelled cask heads, set up casks, brought in grain & c & c. Went with a load of boxes, part to temple, part to Lealand & to Wm. Jones. Called at P.O. & store. Am tending grist mill this eve. SATURDAY 11 Cloudy part & pleasant part of the day. Set up casks, dowelled, heads some, plained some. Tended grist mill some & c. & c. Tended cracker & grist mill some this eve. E. went to So. Framingham to day. SUNDAY 12 Snowed last night 5 or 6 inches.. Cloudy, misty to day. didnt go to meeting to day but have been here at Alvahs & Johns.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 16, 1862 Very pleasant but very windy. Very icy, slipery. Staid about house. Went to the meeting house & Dea. Whiting about tea party. Went to co. Clarks with Mahlon Daniels to get a deed & mortgage. Came back by meeting house & in eve, e & I went to tea party & tended table & c & c. FRIDAY 17 Cloudy most of the day, snowed a little. Gave Mrs. Abigale Alexander a deed of the Wright lot in A.M. & in P.M did but little. Did chore about house & about & in eve we, E & I, went to the Tea party & tended confectionary table. & c. SATURDAY 18 Stormy snow rain & hail. Worked abut home some & helped clean up the meeting house & cary things about from there & c. Staid at store some & c & c. Jos has been to Boston. I paid 2 noats, 1 that A. A. Newell, & 1 H. C. Peck held against me.

Helped E. about the washing some. Put my sleigh together & cleaned it. Rev. Mr. Dearing has gone home with fathers. Worked for Hermon turning shoes & c. 6 hours, 80 shoes. TUESDAY 21 Cloudy & cool. Stormed very little, fine hale or mist. Helped shell some corn 2 bus. & boiled swill for hogs. Cleared out the old desk & clothes room & put up some hooks in the clothes room & c & c. Started to go to Hermons to work but he has gone away. Father went to Woonsocket.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1862 SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 1862 Stormy rain & hail mist cold storm, freezes to the trees. Went to meeting in A.M. & carried a load in P.M. & Stormy, snowed most of the day. Worked for Hermon 5 hours turning horse shoes, 77. Sold my harness to Seawell Adams for 9.50. Took fathers note for $75.00. Edmond came here to day.

THURSDAY 23 Very pleasant in the morn but cloudy or hazy most all day & warm. Did chores & c. about home part the day & worked for Hermon turning (36) shoes & splitting some steel, 3 hours. Father, Mother & Abbie went a visiting & Jos. went this P.M. Staid in the store some. FRIDAY 24 Cloudy & cool. Chilly. Chored about house some & E. & I went to Woonsocket Falls & about there some. Traded some & c. Jos. , Abbie, Hattie & the children went up there for a sleigh ride with Dea Whitings horse. We went to the Division to night. Abbie was initiated.

did not come & the going is poor. Went to see J. D. Wales this eve. His eye is sore. E. & Abbie went with me. MONDAY 27 Very windy & cold but pleasant. Helped about the washing. Painted the small wood box again. Worked for Hermon 6 hours turning shoes & taking care of cattle & firing mill iron & c. Hurt Hermons lip with the hammer.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, 1862 Very stormy, hail or snow & rained hard in P.M. & this eve. Picked over apples & divided them. Painted the small wood box. About house some & c & c. Mr. H. Stockbridge has been here writing a deed & c & c. SUNDAY 26 Very windy & blustering, otherwise very pleasant. Staid at home all day. No meeting to day for Rev. J. G. Dearing

TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 1862 8 above zero Very pleasant & cold. Cleared up the wood house. Painted the large wood box. Sawed a little wood & got it in. Bought some sleigh bells. Jos & Abbie went to Franklin & carried Hattie to her mothers. WEDNESDAY 29 21 above zero Cloudy & fine rain most of the day. Helped cut a large apple tree front of old barn & got it up. Nailed some hooks & staples for the floor room. Staid at store some & c & c. Jos been to Boston. Chs Staples has been here. THURSDAY 30

Cloudy A.M. & stormy P.M. Snow. Fixed about the sink, a shelf under it & about the flour bbl & c. This P.M. went to D. T. Briggses, Dea. Whitings, Jos Clarks & Mr. Pherson making calls. Emeline & Mrs. Richardson went with me.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 31, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Cold in the morn. Worked about the house some. Mended the buffalo. Painted the large wood box again. Helped finish the Sleigh & c. & c. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1 Cloudy & cold, snowed this P.M. Went to Jos. Clarks & carried the sleigh fill or shaft to have a new one. Helped Jos put up a few potatoes. Worked in the old shop some. Ground some knives & c & c. SUNDAY 2 Very pleasant but windy & cool. Have been to meeting all day. Rev. J. Dearing preached. No meeting this eve Mahlon Daniels had my sleigh to go to his fathers funeral to day.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1862 4 above zero Very pleasant & cold in the morn but hazy & warmer most the day. Helped about the washing some. Shelled some, 2 bushls, corm. Got out some beans & divided some. Rev. J. Dearing went home. Mahlon Daniels had my sleigh to go to his fathers place with TUESDAY 4 Cloudy & snowed some. Shelled a lot of corn. Staid at store some, carried Mrs. Hefford home from D. T. Briggs. Went to Frosts mill with some corn. E. went with me. Jos been to Boston. WEDNESDAY 5 Very pleasant & cool. Went to B. Frosts after some meal but got none. Put up some more corn & went to Woonsocket to Mill. Amanda & Marianna went with me. Helped clear the stuff out of the ice house & c.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1862 10 above zero Very pleasant & cold. Have been to meeting all day. didnt go this eve. Rev. J. Dearing preached. E. didnt go in A.M. MONDAY 10 3 above zero Very pleasant & cold, little hazy in P.M. & warmer. Sawed & split a little of the apple tree. Went up to Hermons & got the pully blocks & than weighed 297 lbs of hay for Rev. Dearing. In P.M. took a sleigh ride. Went to the old Elder Balow meeting house. Called & got the key at Ida Balow. Called to Chs. Scotts & went up to Mahlon Danielses. __?__ & Abbie went with me. 6 above zero Very pleasant & cold morn but warm most of the day. Sawed & split wood at the door, old apple tree. Picked off the cobs & put up a lot of corn that wee shelled the other day. Father & Mother have been visiting to day. Estella Briggs here visiting to day. TUESDAY 11

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1862 Very pleasant this morn but clouded up & snowed before night. Went & got Jos oxan & helped get ice. Mr. Pherson, Hermon, Father & Jos helped. FRIDAY 7 Cloudy part & pleasant part of the day & warm & thawy. Went up to Mahlon Daniels to get him to help get ice. We drawed most of the day. Mahlon helped, 2 or 3 hs, some. Dea Pond, 2 or 3 hrs, Dea Whiting, 2 or 3 hs., & Mr. Pherson, Joseph & Father most of the day. Have been to the Division with E., Jos. & Abbie. SATURDAY 8 Very pleasant & cool, thawed some. Worked on the ice most of A.M., packing it with Jos. Got the ice house most full. Winnowed some beans. Carried some wood into the wood house from old shop & c.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 15 1862 Cloudy & snowed most of P.M. Chilly. Cleared up the corn in wood house & cleared up in old barn & put the covered wagon in there & cleared up old shop. Moved the sleepers in there & c & put the open wagon in there & c & c. Joseph & Hattie been to Boston. Sold some 6 2/3 bushls corn to Dea. Pond for 2.47. SUNDAY 16 Very pleasant & cold, windy P.M. We went to meeting all day. Rev. Saml Hunt preached. He exchanged with Rev. J. Dearing . Is no meeting this eve. MONDAY 17 2 below zero Pleasant in the morn but cloudy most of the day & cool, cold in the morn. Helped about the washing some. Went up to Hermons & worked 6 hours turning shoes, 19 horse shoes & 82 ox shoes & c.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 1862 Snowed in A.M. & pleasant P.M. & went to Dedham to the Court house & got some deeds & left some to be registered. Than went to Uncle Peltiah Whitings & staid a while. Was there to dinner. Called & staid a while to Mr. Woods. Came home in the last train. THURSDAY 13 Cloudy part & pleasant part the day. Snowed some. Warm. Cut & got up some old apple tree & a large chery tree & cut part of it up for the fire & put in the wood house. Dug (or helped) dig out the hay scales & c & c. FRIDAY 14 Cloudy, most of the day & rained a little. Helped shell the corn, most all shelled except some for seed & some of mine. Went & helped Mr. Steadman load a load of Josephs hay. Jos had gone to Mr. Pikes. At house some & c & c.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Went into the woods & choped a little with father in the wood back of old barn & c. & in P.M. went & made calls at Mr. Heatons & at Mr. Stockbridges with Emeline & Hattie. Mr. J. Metcalf called here. Went to the Division in eve. Fred & Ann went with us. SATURDAY 22 Cloudy part & pleasant part the day. Warm. Went & got Jos oxan & got a load of wood & drawed home. Sent 10 bushls my potatoes up to Blackstone. Fixed a bolt to my sleigh. Cleared up in the cellar some & c. In eve, went to the Sons of Temporance to Sheldonville with Ed, Fred, Ann , O.P.W. & Emeline. SUNDAY 23 Very Pleasant & warm. Went to meeting to Franklin in A.M. Mother, Abbie, Alvahs wife & Emeline went with me. Rev. Asa Bullard preached. In P.M. went here in So. Franklin to meeting with them. Rev. J. Dearing preached. Went to Franklin to meeting in eve. & heard Washingtons farewell address.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 1862 Stormy A.M., snow, hail & rain. Very pleasant & warm P.M. Worked for Hermon turning horse shoes & c (110) 8 hours. Staid there to dinner. Jos has been to Dedham. WEDNESDAY 19 Very pleasant morn but hazy P.M. & warm & thawy. Put up 10 bushls potatoes. Fixed the sink spout or pipe. Cleaned up the horse barn. Sawed some wood & c. Father, Mother & Abbie went to Ashland to Alvahs & Johns. The minister went home. THURSDAY 20 Stormy A.M. snow & rain but cleared off before night. Warm. Split up some wood. Helped Jos some clear a ditch for water from the store & c. Fixed the hay cutter where it was broke & c. & c.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 1862

Cloudy, foggy & rained most of the day. Cleared off toward night & was a bright rain bow. Clouded up again to night & storms this eve & very windy. Has been very thawy to day. Worked for Hermon 7 hours turning horse shoes (108) & c. Alvah & his wife went home this morn. Jos been away with the horse. TUESDAY 25 Very pleasant or clear but very cold & very Windy. Helped in the house some, about the washing & c. Sawed some wood in wood house & c. Sawed some wood in wood house & c. Went up to Hermons & worked 1 or 2 hours, turning (23) horse shoes., went to Mr. Phersons from there. Was a large fire in Boston last night. WEDNESDAY 26 Pleasant part & cloudy or hazy part the day & cold. Helped some about shoeing the horse. Mended the halter. Sawed & split some wood. In house some & c. Had my hair cut by Emeline. In eve, Emeline & I went to Mr. Amos Woodards. Father went to Woonsocket & Blackstone.

SUNDAY, MARCH 2, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Have been to meeting all day. Rev. J. Deering preached. We went with the horse & sleigh. Went & got Ann & Patty & others. No meeting this eve. MONDAY 3 12 above zero Very pleasant in morn but clouded up before 9 & began to rain a little before 3 oclock P.M. Went to Town meeting with Father & Joseph. Went with horse & sleigh. Was gone most of the day. Rev. J. Deering went home to day.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1862 Snowed all day & windy & cool. Sawed a little wood, helped cut some pumpkins. Went to Mr. Frosts & carried some corn & left it to be ground & got some shavings. FRIDAY 28 Driving snow storm most all day. Helped clear off & fix some shelves in the cellar way. Set a pain of glass in our

Helped dig a ditch in the ice to cary the water from the store, for it ran in there. Cleaned out lot of rotton potatoes & c. from the cellar & c. Very pleasant & warm. Went to Mahlon Daniels & got some milk. Helped father set a wheel barrow tire. Cut up some small wood. Carried Mrs. Richardson to Dea. Whitings & this P.M. went into the woods back of old barn & choped wood with father till 5 oclock, than came home & put up 11 bushls of potatoes for Mr. Pike. He helped me. I have got to cary them to Franklin.

SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Went to Franklin with 10 bushl potatoes & 1 of turnips with the sleigh. Carried them to the Hotel. Helped some about shoeing the horse & fixing a shovel, clearing ditch for the water to run off from store. Staid at store some & c. Jos. been to Boston. SUNDAY 9 Very pleasant & warm. Staid at home from meeting all day. Rev. J. Deering has not come back yet, so Dea Pond read a Sermon to day. Emeline & I took a walk down the R. R. MONDAY 10 Pleasant most of A.M. but clouded up & began to storm some in P.M. Warm. Put up & carried Mr. E. Moses 10 + 1 bushels turnips. Went & got some milk at M. Daniels. Went & got a load of small wood with the horse in woods & have cut it up in wood house. Picked over part of my apples & c. Father gone to Boston.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Went into the wood back of old barn with father & cut a large oak tree & trimmed it out & sawed off 2 (9 ft logs) The tree wasnt very sound. Staid at store some. Looked over the Parish book some & c & c. Emeline went to Mr. Pherson with Jos, Abbie & Hattie & children. THURSDAY 6 Very pleasant in the morn but cloudy most of the day. Helped Emeline clean & fix the bead & c. Cut a little wood. Went & got (Jos) the oxan this P.M. & drawed 3 small load of wood & logs that we cut yesterday. In A.M., father & Mother went to Dea. Whitings & to Jos Clarks. This eve Jos, Abbie, Hattie & Eddie have gone to Franklin to the exabition. FRIDAY 7

FRIDAY, MARCH 14, 1862 Stormy most of the day. Fine mist, snowed a very little last night. Have been in the house most of the day looking over my Journals & papers & c. Went to M. Daniels & got some milk. Have got a bad cold. SATURDAY 15 Very stormy, rain, hail & snow, from N.E. Windy. Staid in the house & store some. Went to the saw mill & we (father & I) rolled in Jos short logs 2 or 3 hs. Looked over my papers some & c & c. Jos has been to Boston. SUNDAY 16 Very stormy, rain, hail & snow. Cool. Staid at home all day. Rev. John Deering preached but there was but very few at meeting. Father has been sick to day, so he hasnt been out.

TUESDAY, MARCH 11, 1862 calf Very pleasant & warm & thawy. The sleighing is getting rather poor. Chored around home here some. Went up to Hermons to work but he was goon. E. went with me. We came back & made a box for Fremonts rabbit & c. Father came home from Boston to night & brought a new harness & c. WEDNESDAY 12 Very pleasant & warm. Fixed a saw frame to the new saw. Sawed, split & got in some wood. Cleared up the horse barn some. Fixed a calf pen & c & c. At store some. Jos, Abbie & Amanda have been to Boston. THURSDAY 13 Cloudy most of the day & cool. Have been in the woods most all day, back of old barn, chopping with father. Jos helped some this P.M. Rev. J. Deering came back to P.M.

THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Father & I went all around in the Rockwood lot to see it & where to chop there. Carried some small wood into the wood house & cut it. We went into the woods & choped a while. FRIDAY 21 Stormy most all day, hail & rain. Cold storm. Carried some wood into the wood house & sawed & split it. Put up 2 bushls corn & carried to mill to Frosts & got it ground & got some shavings & this P.M. cleared out the ferther building. SATURDAY 22 Stormy most of the day. Finished clearing up the further building. Split little wood. Fixed some in the horse barn & in the old barn & c &c. Jos went to mill & about poverty __?__.

MONDAY, MARCH 17, 1862 Snowed in morn, than cleared off , very pleasant but clouded up & squally in P.M., thawy. Went up in the woods with the horse & draw home 5 load of wood. Drawed 2 logs to mill. Cut & sawed of a white oak log. Drawed 6 sleepers down & c. Father helped. TUESDAY 18 Very pleasant & warm. Drawed 1 oak log to mill with the horse & slead & got it sawed & brought it home & the other 2 that were there. Trimed out the oak & drawed the wood home (1 load) Father helped. Cut some wood at the door & c. WEDNESDAY 19 Very pleasant & warm & windy. Choped wood in the woods back of old barn with father in A.M. & this P.M. cut a little at the door & E. & I went with the horse & sleigh making calls at Mrs. O. Adamses, Mr. O. Waleses, Hermons & Mr. Moses & this eve, went to Mahlon Danielses to a candy party.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 1862 calf Very pleasant & cold. Went to the Auction at Mr. Moses Daniels with the horse & wagon & carried Mrs. Mahlon Daniels. It is very bad going, muddy & rough. Was gone most all day. THURSDAY 27 Very pleasant & cool & windy. Went with the horse & fore wheels & got my cart at S. Rands house. Cut some wood & c. Went to the funeral of old Mrs. Whiting. She was 80 years old. Rev. John Deering attended it. Jos carried Abbie to __?__ to take the cars for Ashland. FRIDAY 28 Pleasant most the day but windy & cold. Split & cut some wood at the door. Helped fix the horse cart some. Made a cross piece & c.

SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 1862 Cloudy & stormed (rain) some. Went to meeting all day with the horse & wagon. Rev. John Deering preached. Was no meeting in the eve. MONDAY 24 Pleasant & warm. Sawed wood at the door some. Put in a new tub in the cow yard & fixed it for the water comes in to it. At store some & c & c. Father, mother & Amanda went to Franklin after a bonnet. Jos has been away. TUESDAY 25 Pleasant & warm. Sawed some wood at the door. Went up in the cars to S. Rands Auction. Bought a horse cart, walked back Old Mrs. Whiting died this morn. Father has been over there & has been to Woonsocket after a coffin for her. Jos has been to Boston. Abbie & Hattie went to Franklin after him tonight.

TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 1862 Cloudy most all day & warm. Sawed & split wood most of the day. Went to the meeting house to read to parish warant in morn & went to Parish meeting a while in P.M. WEDNESDAY 2 Very pleasant & warm. Choped in the woods back of old barn with Father in A.M. & in P.M. Father & Rev. Deering went to Woonsocket & Jos & Hattie went to Dedham at _?_. I cleared up the horse barn & Jos & I went & got a load of saw dust & cut a little wood & c. Hermon & Mary & children are visiting this P.M. & eve. Fast Stormy in the morn but cleared off, very pleasant. Went to meeting here in S. F. Rev. John Deering preached. E. & I went to walk & meeting this eve down stairs. THURSDAY 3

SATURDAY, MARCH 29, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Split wood at the door most of the day. Moved the cider mill to old barn. At store some & c & c. Jos & Hattie & Nettie went to Ashland with the horse & carriage. SUNDAY 30 calf Very pleasant & warm. Have been to meeting all day. Rev. John Deering preached. We went with his horse in P.M. There is no meeting this eve. Ana Whiting, Abbie, __?__ & Alfred Clark here this eve. MONDAY 31 Stormy all day, snow & thawy. Went to the sawmill & put up some saw dust & rolled in Jos logs, 1 hour. Helped fix the irons on the farm wagon shelves & c. Staid in the store some & c & c. Jos, Abbie & the children & Hattie came home from Ashland this noon.

FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Worked in the wood in A.M. Sawed off some sleepers & some rail cuts & trimed out & picked up the old wood & c in the woods. Took up & partly laid a new floor in horse stables & c. This eve Emeline, Hattie & I went to Dea. Whitings. SATURDAY 5 Pleasant part of A.M. & stormy most of P.M. Hail & snow. Worked in the horse barn most of the day fixing & laying floor in the horse stable. Finished it. Jos. went to Woonsocket in the cars. Abbie went to Franklin with the horse & Father carried Miranda Newell home. SUNDAY 6 Pleasant but windy & cold. Have been to meeting all day. We went with the horse & carriage. Rev. THURSDAY, APRIL 10, 1862 Very windy, cloudy & cold, had a snow squall. Worked some putting & set a pain of glass & c. & this P.M. drawed 2 load of wood home from woods. Broke the irons on the shalves & had to mend them. Alvah & his boys went home in A.M. Chs Dean & wife called here this eve.

Jos & Abbie have gone to the Division to night. SATURDAY 12 Very pleasant but cool & windy. Sawed & split some wood at the door & drawed down 5 load old wood with the horse & c & c. Jos has been to Boston. Abbie went to Jos. Clarks with the horse. Sold & helped put up 5 bushls potatoes.

TUESDAY 15 Cloudy most of the day & warm. Raked up the old weeds & c in the garden. Worked digging a ditch front of old barn. Helped load a load of hay for Joseph. Been at store some & c. Father went to mill to poverty lain & he has drawed 2 load of the old wood home to day.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16, 1862 Cloudy & rained a little in A.M. Pleasant most of P.M. Warm. Helped on load a load of wood. Worked in the ditch most of the day digging & laying stone in it for a bridge. At store some & c. Father helped Jos went to Boston & Hattie to Ashland. THURSDAY 17 Very pleasant & warm & very windy. Took some honey from the bees (the patent white hive). Worked in the ditch laying a bridge & diging out some. Finished diging it out & laying the stone. (at store some) Mahlon Daniels brought his horse here to keep a few days. FRIDAY 18 calf

SUNDAY, APRIL 13, 1862 Very pleasant. Have been to meeting all day. Rev. J. Deering preached. Jos, Abbie & the little boy & Hattie went to Franklin. There is no meeting this eve. MONDAY 14 Very pleasant & warm. Helped father shoe the horse. Cleared up some of the old stuff, wood & c about here & c. Worked on the road picking out stones after the scraper 2 hours. Father worked on road 3 hs. We sold 603 lbs meadow hay.

Cloudy most of the day & very warm. Cleared the old stalks & c. off of the pieces by old barn & side the road & c. & c. Father drawed 2 load of rail cuts & 1 load of wood. I helped 1 load. Hermon killed our calf to night. We helped dress it & c. Uncle Richardson & Aunt & Jennie here visiting this P.M. Jos & Abbie went to Franklin.

TUESDAY, APRIL 22, 1862 Very stormy A.M. Cleared off about 4 oclock P.M. Cleared up some of the old or poor potatoes in the cellar & c. Put a shelf back of the flour bbl. In the store some. Beetled part of the manure on the piece front of old barn. Father & Stephen helped some. WEDNESDAY 23 Pleasant & cool & windy. Beetled manure part of the day. Nearly finished it. Drawed 1 load of sleepers & 1 load of rail cuts & wood & 1 log of wood & father drawed 2 load of wood to R.R. Father & mother went up to Hermons & brought Aunt Patty home with them. She has been here a visiting this P.M. Carried her home to night. THURSDAY 24 Pleasant but very cold & windy. Set 2 pains of glass. Helped draw 3 loads of wood, 1 to R.R. & 2 to the house. Cut a little in woods & c. Father went to Geo. Grants with Jos wheels to get a new axle in & pole. Chs. Shepperd & wife called here to day. Hermon raised his shop.

Very pleasant & warm. & windy. Helped cut up the calf. Sold part of it. Cut some wood at the door. Dug up some old plum trees in garden. Drawed 1 load of wood home. Father helped. Father helped Hermon set tire this P.M. They have been hewing timber here for Hermons shop.

Very pleasant in morn but clouded up & cloudy most of the day & rained a little. Cut some wood at the door & helped some about the washing. Went into the woods & got a load of rial cuts. Sawed off some & some sleepers & helped cut or get a stick for Hermon , a sill to his shop. Split the hills & plowed part of the piece back of old shop. Fremond road the horse to plow. Warm, drawed manure part of the day 9 loads back of old shop. At store some & shop some & c. Jos went to Boston. Father went to Hermons & to Geo. Grants & got Jos wheels. He fixed his __?__ & c. Helped draw some manure & c. WEDNESDAY 30 Very pleasant & warm. Dug up & fixed for some flowers front of the house. Moved some wood & c. to dry & in P.M. drawed manure on to the piece back of old shop, 8 load in A.M. Father went to Mill to poverty lane & to Bellingham & to Woonsocket. FRIDAY, APRIL 25, 1862 Very pleasant, warm. Worked in the woods most of the day, trimming out & picking up the old wood or dead stuff & helping father load the wood. He drawed 8 load, 6 to R.R. & 2 to the house. Went to the Division in the eve. Emeline & Abbie went with me. SATURDAY 26 Very pleasant & cool. Onloaded a load of small wood. Fixed the wagons some & c. & c. in A.M. & in P.M. went to the funeral of Mrs. S. Hunt & T. C. Hill. They were at Franklin Meeting house. Jos. went to Boston. The rest of us went to the funeral. SATURDAY, MAY 10, 1852 Very windy but quite clear & warm. Went up to Mahlon Daniels & put up some corn. Fixed the flower bed front of the house & c. Went to Woonsocket to mill in P.M. Father went to Dedham & Boston. Emeline & Hattie to Franklin. SUNDAY 11 Very pleasant but windy & cool. Have been to meeting all day. Rev. J. K. Deering preached. Was a meeting at 5 oclk but didnt go to it. MONDAY 12 Very pleasant & warm. Was a frost last night. Windy. Helped some about the washing. Helped father fix the old plow & sharp some drills & drilled & split some stones front of old barn & helped Dea. Pond draw some manure & gravel & c. He worked here this P.M. drawing manure in front of old barn & some stones off & gravel to fill up holes.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, 1862 Pleasant most of the day, sprinkled a little in P.M. Very windy & cool. Planted a few potatoes & some peas in the garden. Carted gravel with the horse cart out of the drive way at horse barn onto the bridge & meadow. Drawed some from the heep in the horse barn. Dea. J. T. Pond worked this P.M. spreading gravel. Father got a load of boards at __?__. THURSDAY 8 Very pleasant but windy. Picked the cornstalks off of the piece back of old shop, than rolled it. Drawed a load of manure from horse barn & spread it on the piece front of old barn. Father helped some. FRIDAY 9 Pleasant & warm but windy. Father & I fixed the fence & wall around the pasture back of old barn. Cut some small wood. Went to Dea. Ponds & took car of his cow at noon. He worked here, spread gravel in A.M. front of old barn & in P.M. , he drawed & spread manure front of old barn & back of old shop. I have felt most sick to day.

TUESDAY, MAY 13, 1862 Very smoky & very warm. Cloudy, sprinkled some in P.M. Worked on the stones drilling, split some & blasted some & c. Father helped some. Was at store some. Jos, Abbie & Hattie went to Medway with Mancies horse & wagon. WEDNESDAY 14 Very pleasant & warm. Cleared or raked the weeds & c. off of the little piece back of horse barn. Drawed the stones off of the piece front of old barn & drawed 3 load of gravel to fill up the holes. Father helped some & he churned. It was a long time coming. John & Sarah came here to night. THURSDAY 15 Very pleasant & warm. Frost last night. Fixed an iron for John. Trimed trees a little, carted gravel & filled up the holes where we got the rocks out & carted some manure out. John & S. went home this P.M. Father went to Fisher Daniels & got some oats for Jos.

TUESDAY 27 Stormy all day, cool. Helped father fix the open wagon & new steel the breaking up hoe & c. was hed the wagon. Set a pain of glass in store some. Planted a few mellons & c & c. Father went to Franklin & got Joseph to night.

SATURDAY, MAY 31, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Went to Boston in 7 oclock A.M. train & came home in the 8 P.M. train. Bought me a Refrigerator, some clothes & c & c. Jos went & came home at 5 P.M. E. Darwin Cook worked here cutting wood at the door. SUNDAY, JUNE 1 Very pleasant in the morn but clouded up & stormed some in P.M. Went to meeting in A.M. Staid at home with Aunt Nancy in P.M. Rev. J. H. Deering preached. Was no meeting this eve. MONDAY 2 Cloudy morn but pleasant & warm most of the day. Helped some about the washing. Helped fix the plow & some. Shovels. Went to see a piece of land with Mr. J. B. Whiting. Sowed some corn for the crows. They pull it up. Drawed 7 load of dirt into the cow yard & spread it. Father helped some & c & c. The Refrigerator came to night.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 28, 1862 Cloudy part of the day & pleasant part. Cleared out the milk cellar some. Leveled off & planted some side of the ditch front of old barn. Fixed for some flowers by the rose bushes & c & c. Father went to Dedham & Boston & got the money on Aunt Nancy's bank book. THURSDAY 29 Very pleasant but windy P.M. Fixed the flower beds front of house some. Drawed 3 load of manure from under horse barn & manured out the piece below horse barn & have planted it to potatoes, beans, peas, squashes & c. Planted some in garden & c & c. Father helped some & he has been to Hermons & to H. Stockbridges. FRIDAY 30 Very pleasant & warm. Churned & put up some butter, set out some dalias, planted a bead of parsnips & beats. Planted a few potatoes side of the potato field by the wall.

FRIDAY, JUNE 6, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Staid at the mill & house in A.M. & in P.M. went to South Framingham with Alvah with a load of foxes. Went to Mr. E. Grants & got our bee hive & to night John, Sarah & Em. & I went to Fayville. SATURDAY 7 Cloudy & foggy morn. Cloudy most of the day. Came home from Ashland in morn. Got here about 9 oclock A.M. Did but little in A.M. Worked on the Road in P.M. 4 hs. SUNDAY 8 Stormy most of the day & cold. Have staid at home all day. Jos went to Franklin to meeting. He went a foot. Dea Pond took lead of the meeting here in So. Franklin.

TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 1862 Very pleasant & very warm A.M. Showery P.M. but very warm. Put up some potatoes, beets, turnips, butter & c & went to Woonsocket to market (rather dull traiding) Helped fix the fence around the pasture back of horse barn & c &c. Emeline has gone to Franklin to a lecture to night. WEDNESDAY 4 Very stormy all day. Carried fathers seedling potatoes out to the horse barn & helped him some about sprouting them. Cleared up the cellar some. In store some. Went up & helped Hermon split some steel & c. 1 hs & c & c. Bought a piece of land by the ledge of Mr. J. B. Whiting. THURSDAY 5 Stormy in morn but cleared off, very pleasant in P.M. Worked some around the house & went to Col. Clarks to get him to write a deed of some land that I bought of J. B. Whiting in A.M. We, E & I, got ready & started for Ashland in P.M. We carried Sarah Hart home. Stayed at Martha Ponds a while, got to Alvahs about 5 P.M.

THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 1862 Cloudy morn & rained a little but cleared of very pleasant P.M. Went up to Hermons with the Pike cow. Churned. Helped shoe the horse all around. Went up to Dea Ponds & helped him cultivate out his corn, potatoes & c. Fixed the, or part of, the been poles & c. Cut a little wood. In store some Jos, Abbie & Mother went to Franklin, Bellingham & about with the horse.

MONDAY, JUNE 9, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Helped some about the washing, then went to work on the road with the horse & cart. Father worked. We worked 6 hs, 19 hs or more. Drawed 1 load of dirt into hot pen. Choped up the weeds & among the trees & c. Abbie went to Frankllin with horse & got Jos. & to Mrs. O. Adams. TUESDAY 10 Very pleasant & warm. Put up some butter, planted some deans in the garden & hoed among the currant bushes & c & c. Father went & get a load of shavings. WEDNESDAY 11 Went to Dea. Ponds & helped him cultivate out part of his corn with our horse 1 hs. Dug up around the current &c in the garden. Put my meet in a brine. Sowed some turnips & cabbage seed & c &c. Father & Mother went to Woonsocket.

FRIDAY 13 Very pleasant & very warm. Sprouted a few potatoes & got ready & Emeline & I went to Woonsocket. Drawed (some) 4 load of dirt into the cow yard & 3 into the hog pen or barn cellar. The bees swarmed. SATURDAY 14
Very pleasant & very warm. Cultivated the garden & hoed them (or (most finished ) them) poled most of the beans. Went & got a load of pea brush & bushed part of the peas & c. & c. Father cut wood at the door. Jos. went to Boston. Abbie went to Franklin & got him to night.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 1862 Pleasant but very windy. Cloudy part of P.M. Went up to Hermons with the Cook corn. Hoed most all day on the piece front of old barn. Dea Pond helped. Father helped some. Jos carried Hattie to Medway. The sewing circle met at Jos to day. THURSDAY 19 Rained some last night but pleasant & very warm to day. Churned, than helped father fix the wagons. Set 3 tires & c & c. Was a meeting here this eve. Very full house. FRIDAY 20 Very pleasant & warm. Howed some in the door yard & by horse barn. Fixed a sweet-chest & clothes dryer & c & c At store some. Father went & got 200 brick. Capt Burr cut up __?__ Scott a load of straw. I have been with a lot hanging some things for Mrs. Richardson.

Edmond came here to day. MONDAY 16 Very pleasant & cool. Helped some about the washing. Bushed & hoed the peas. Ashed the corn & cultivated out part of it & hoed some. Dea Pond helped part of P.M. Father helped some. TUESDAY 17 Very pleasant & cool (windy) Cultivated out the rest of the corn & potatoes front of old barn & we have got the corn most all hoed & part of the potatoes. Dea Pond worked here. Father helped part the day. Mr. Nurifield & Burr cut a little straw here.

TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 1862 Stormy most all day. Put up some butter. Took our bed down & __?__ it. Churned. Helped father in the shop some. Maid a crank for new grind-stone & c & wagon. Father & Dea Pond went to Woonsocket. He got some coal & c & c. WEDNESDAY 25 calf Very stormy most all day. Made a grind stone frame & helped hang the stone. Fixed the clothes dryer & c & c. This eve carried Amelia Boyden home or to A.J. Newells. THURSDAY 26 Stormy most of the day. Helped set some iron hoops on a half hogshead & fix the tires to the caryall to set. Have got them ready. Fixed my clothes dryer & set a post for it & c & c.

SATURDAY, JUNE 21, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Did several little jobs, helped fix the wheel, hoed a few beens, set a new post for the shed in the cow yard. At store some & c & c. Jos & Abbie went to Boston. SUNDAY 22 Very pleasant & warm. Went to meeting here in So. F. in A.M. Rev. J. R. Deering preached & in P.M. went to Sheldonville to meeting. Emeline & Abbie went with me. Went to meeting at 5 this MONDAY 23 Very pleasant & very warm. Helped some about the washing. Cultivated & hoed the piece beyond horse barn & bushed the peas. Picked part of the cherries. Set out some tomatoes & c. Father went & got a grind stone. Dea Pond cut 157 lbs straw & Capt Burr cut a lot.

FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 1862 Very pleasant & very warm but there is a thunder shower this eve. Drawed a load of birch wood for Dea Pond & than cultivated his corn, potatoes & c 3 hours about, than drawed home a load of my birch wood. Set

Went to Dr. Metcalfs & had a tooth pulled & Emelines fixed. Plastered part of the potatoes. Made screens & c. Father went to Woonsocket. Jos & Abbie went to Franklin & got Sarah.

Stormy A.M. Pleasant P.M. Have been in the house part of the day looking over my papers & c. Helped fix the barn floor some. Pulled some white weed & c. Bees Very pleasant & not very warm. We howed some after supper. Rake up part the hay after dinner. THURSDAY 10 Cloudy most of the day & warm. No hay weather but we mowed front of old barn & the clover piece & c. Fixed in horse barn & c. Frank Adams & Fremont R. worked here. FRIDAY 11 Very pleasant good hay weather. We opened the hay & turned it but didnt get any in. Mowed most of the piece by old barn or cow yard. Frank Adams & Fremont & father helped. I went up to Hermons with the Pike heifer.

Edmond came here & MONDAY 7 Very pleasant & very warm. Cultivated the garden back of old shop & father hoed it & we finished cultivating the piece front of old barn & hoed part of it. Fremont Richardson helped, is going to work 3 weeks. Aunt Miller came here to night. Bees Very pleasant & very warm. Mowed some side the roads & hoed some front of old barn. Father & Fremont Churned & c & c. SATURDAY, JULY 12, 1862 Very pleasant & good hay weather. Finished mowing the piece by old barn & mowed the piece by horse barn or garden & got in 7 load, 6 in old barn & 1 in horse barn. Asa Sargent, Frank Adams, & Fremont Richardson worked here. Jos helped a little. Uncle Nathan came out here to day helped some. SUNDAY 13 Very pleasant & warm. Have been to meeting all day. Rev. J. R. Deering preached. S.S. Concert to night at 5 oclock but I didnt go. MONDAY 14 Very pleasant windy & warm. Mowed Mrs. Richardsons door yard & c. & the piece by the pond. Got in 3 load of hay. 1 into old barn & 2 small ones into horse barn. Father & Uncle Nathan went to Woonsocket. WEDNESDAY 16 Cloudy in morn but cleared off, very warm & pleasant. Hazy a little in the morn, than mowed the good hay back of old shop & took care of the hay. Got in 1 small load to horse barn. Jos, Abbie & Hattie & Emeline went to Aunt Hannahs & got some cherries. THURSDAY 17 Pleasant in morn than cloudy, than pleasant again about A.M. Mowed the piece back of horse barn, spread & made the hay & got it in, 3 load, 2 to horse barn & 1 to old barn. Emeline made some current wine. Chs. Metcalf came here.

MONDAY, JULY 21, 1862 Stormy A.M. & pleasant P.M. & cool. Thinned out the beets. Set out some cabbage plants, pulled weeds & hoed the beans trees & c. in the garden & c & c. Put up some butter. Father & Uncle Nathan went to Woonsocket. Got a grain cradle. Jos, Abbie, Hattie & the children went to Franklin. FRIDAY, JULY 18, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Mowed front of old barn, where we spread the manure & the gravel. Made & got the hay in 1 load, 1221 lbs for Rev. J. R. Deering. We helped. Jos stack his hay, drawed 4 horse load. Fremont, Father & I helped 3 or 4 hs. Uncle Nathan helped. SATURDAY 19 Pleasant & cool in morn. Mowed in race meadow, the English & the uper end by the ditch. Got in 2 load, 1 in old barn & 671 lbs in to horse barn for J. R. Deering. Jos & Abbie been Boston. SUNDAY 20 Cloudy A.M. & stormy P.M. Have been to meeting all day. Rev. Sanford preached. Eddie & Darwin came over to day. TUESDAY 22 Pleasant most of the day & cool. Mowed the swale front of old barn & the thin back of old shop & the swales we mowed to night (most of it). Spread or opened the hay but it didnt get very dry but drawed in 1 small load. Jos helped part of the day. They went raspberring to night. Emeline, Abbie, Marianna, Jos & Fremont. WEDNESDAY 23 Cloudy & began to storm about 6 oclock P.M., very little. Poled the hay out of the swale front of old barn. We pitched off the load of hay & salted it & drawed another in & doubled them in the race meadow. Finished mowing the swale & around the Pond __?__ of old shop & mowed some of the oats. Raked the hay out from the pond & swale & tumbled up part of it & c & c. Jos went to Franklin & _?_.

SUNDAY, JULY 27, 1862 THURSDAY, JULY 24, 1962 Cloudy part & pleasant part the day. Mowed the corner piece front of old barn. Run out the load of hay & spread it & spread that in race meadow & got both loads in to old barn. Raked & tumbled up that we mowed in corner piece. Mowed some in race meadow to night & c. FRIDAY 25 Cloudy most of the day & very warm. Finished the mowing in race meadow, which took all A.M. & a little while in P.M., than Emeline & I went to Milford. Called & paid Chs Shepard 14.50 for Es bord. Called at bording house & at store. Father & Uncle Nathan raked the hay & oats. Fremont & I went up to Hermons with the old cow. SATURDAY 26 Pleasant & warm. We drawed the hay from race meadow, 3 load & 1 from corner piece up by the barn to make & we made & got in all we had down, which is all but brook meadow, 8 load & 1 of oats. Jos, Father & Uncle Nathan & Fremont helped. Jos & Abbie went to Franklin to night with the horse. Pleasant most of the day & warm. Have been to meeting all day. Rev. J. R. Deering preached. Didnt go this eve at 5 oclock. MONDAY 28 Very pleasant & warm. Helped grind the cradle cyth & than I cradled the rye in race meadow. We put the load of oats in the horse barn. Cleared up the horse barn some & c. Father & Uncle Nathan went to Woonsocket. Jos gone to Acton. TUESDAY 29 Very pleasant part the day. Clouded up in P.M. & began to rain some about 3 oclock. Rained but little from a thunder shower. Cultivated & hoed the piece below the horse barn. Took up the rye & got it in just before the shower. Set it up in the cow stable. Ground lot of knifes & c & c. Father & Uncle Nathan helped.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 30, 1862 Was a very hard thunder shower last night about 2 oclock. Cloudy in the morn but cleared off about 9 or 10 A.M. but had a sprinkle from a shower about 5 P.M. Churned & c & c About 10 A.M. Father & I went to mowing in brook meadow. Have mowed most of it & drawed 2 load up to spread. Uncle Nathan helped rake it. Commenced to cradle the oats to night. Took up the carpet in out bedroom to day. THURSDAY 31 Very pleasant & very warm most of the day but had a hard thunder shower about 5 oclock P.M. Went up to Hermons with the __?__ heifer. Mowed the rest of brook meadow & spread & got it all in, 3 small load. Cradled part of the oats. Father went to Wrentham & Miss Mary Ingraham came home with him. Very pleasant & very warm. We, Abbie, Emeline & I, went to Boston in the 7 oclock train. Went about the city shopping. Found John Metcalf there. We came home in the 8 oclock train. SUNDAY 3 Very pleasant & very warm. Went to meeting here in S.F. but came home & went to Sheldonville to the Baptizing & to meeting in P.M. Was 5 Baptized there. Rev. Cole preached. I carried Ann Whiting & Abbie & Emeline. MONDAY 4 Cloudy most of A.M. but pleasant most of P.M. & very warm. Hoed some in the garden. Picked & shelled some peas. Raked down the hay mow & c & c. We bound up & got in the Oats, 3 loads. Father, Uncle Nathan & Dea Pond helped than I cradled Dea Ponds rye for his helping on the oats.

THURSDAY 7 Very pleasant morn but cloudy most of the day. Hoed & pulled weeds in the potatoes front of old barn most all day. Father helped part the day & Hermon helped 5 < 4 or 5 hours. THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 1862 Very pleasant & warm A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Went to Mancy Danielses & got a load of goods for Rev. J. R. Deering. Uncle Nathan & I went a black-berrying 3 hs, got 6 or 8 qts. Got Jos oats & hay up & put it on the stack & helped Rev. J. R. Deering set up & move some of his things & c. In eve carried passengers to Levi Balchs. FRIDAY 15 Very stormy most of A.M. & pleasant P.M. & warm. Helped Emeline put up our currant wine. Carried some passengers to Wilson Metcalfs. Helped fix some curtains. Helped shoe the horse & c & c. Shot a water snake with 25 young ones. Jos has gone to Providence. SATURDAY 16

Dug & cut & split up the large chery tree in front of the house & c. Father helped Dea Pond get a little load of hay. SUNDAY 24 Very pleasant & cool. Have been to meeting all day. Rev. J. R. Father, Mother & Aunt Miller came some from Ashland to night. Uncle Nathan took dinner & supper with us today. THURSDAY 21 Very pleasant & very warm. Helped Father some about hewing the sleepers. Split wood most of the day. Cut some. Helped Jos some about his oats. We drawed 2 load down but part of the loads fell off. FRIDAY 22 Cloudy most of the day & warm. Had a little rain. Helped get up Jos oats. Helped about hewing the sleepers. We finished them, 15 of them. Have not felt very well to day, most sick.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 26, 1862 Very pleasant & very warm. Went to N. Haweses after Mr. A. Follett to work for me but he had gone, but Dea Pond came about 8 oclock & thrashed for me, rye & a few oats. I helped some & chored about house some & c. Jos., Abbie & Hattie & the children went to Ashland. WEDNESDAY 27 Very pleasant & very warm or hot. Turned the cows into race meadow. Picked a few apples & fixed some fence. Churned, thrashed rye with Dea Pond part of the day. He worked for me most of the day. We finished thrashing the rye. Father has been to Franklin. THURSDAY 28 Cloudy & stormy most of A.M. & pleasant most of P.M. but had a thunder about 7 oclock P.M. Cleared up old shop a little. Helped lay a floor of plank in the horse stable. Winnowed the rye, about 8 bushls. Uncle Nathan & I went a blackberrying 4 hs.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Went to Peter Adamses & got his winnowing mill & have winnowed the oats, 5 bushls. Picked a few applies in orchard. Went up & see Jos well & c & c. Father, Uncle Nathan, Mother & Mrs. Gould went to Milford this P.M. Have been to meeting this eve. FRIDAY 5 Very pleasant & warm. Fixed the fence side the R.R. Picked a few apples, dug a few potatoes & c. Cleaned up the oats & brought them to the house & cleared a place for them & c & c. In store some. Jos been to Boston. Abbie & Emeline went to Franklin & got home to night. SATURDAY 6 Very pleasant & warm. Went to Mr. Fisks after some Japan to paint with. Called to see A. P. Woodward but he was away. Helped draw up some (10 buckets) dirt, stone & c from Jos new well. He went to an Auction. Painted the kitchen in P.M. In store some & c.

Went to Hubbards mill & got some pieces to put around the doors in the kitchen. Jos & E. went to Franklin. TUESDAY 2 Stormy part of A.M. Pleasant P.M. & cool. Fixed around the doors in our kitchen some & chored round at store some & c & c. Couldnt get along with the fixing much was hindered so much. Father & Uncle Nathan went to Woonsocket this P.M. WEDNESDAY 3 Very pleasant & cool, white frost last night. Finished fixing in the kitchen Put in mop bords & c. & painted it. Did some chores about in store some & c & c.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1862 Very pleasant & war. Helped load a load of rye, straw, 860 lbs. Father carried it to Woonsocket. Put up some clothes hooks. Picked some apples. Finished washing Uncle Nathans carriage. Picked some pears. Drawed 1 load of gravel by the pond to fix the dam. Drawed off part of the pond to day. Wm. Miller here to tea to night. THURSDAY 11 Very pleasant & warm. Washed the covered wagon & helped some in the house. Painted some in the closets. Mrs. O.Adams white washed them & Mr. Fisk varnished the covered carriage. Drawed 1 load of birch wood from Rockwood lot & c. This eve have been to a Colation at Franklin for the soldiers. FRIDAY 12 Cloudy & warm most of the day, rained some this eve. Onloaded a load of wood & drawed another of birch from the Rockwood lot. Drawed 2 load of dirt into hog pen & 1 load of gravel to the pond & chored around some & c & c. Mr. Fisk worked here part of the day. He varnished the caryall & my 2 rooms & __?__ door.

Helped Mr. Fisk about papering some & c. He papered & grained the kitchen for Mr. Washed the caryall & began to. Uncle Nathan, Father & Uncle Nathan went to Woonsocket this P.M.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1862 Stormed in the night & some this morn but cleared off very pleasant & warm. Onloaded some wood. Helped E fix the bead stead. Cut a pumpkin & c. Drawed the remainder of the Chenang potatoes, 2 bushels or more. Looked over accts with Dea Pond & c & c. Uncle Nathan has gone to Boston. SATURDAY 20 Cloudy most of the day. Chored about house some. Took up the stalks & carried them out & got them up & the beans. Dea Pond helped 1 hs. In store some. Jos gone to Boston. Father came home from Maine to night.

We worked ditching in the corner piece. FRIDAY 26 Very pleasant & warm. Have been to Dedham to Cattle Show & went out to the camps at Reedville & see the soldiers. The Franklin boys were sworn in to service to day. Emeline staid at home & put the border on to the kitchen. SATURDAY 27 Very pleasant & warm. Put up 4 lbs butter for the Baker. Picked & brought up the winter squashes & the best of the pumpkins. Pulled & heaped up a lot of vines & c. Fixed a new bottom in horse manger & went a grapeing. Emeline & Marianna went with me.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 1862 Very pleasant. Chored about house some. Set the stalks around to dry & the beans. Fixed the farm wagon & we loaded a load of oat straw to carry to Woonsocket. Father & John went to Franklin & to Woonsocket. WEDNESDAY 8 Very pleasant & very warm. Went up with John to see his sprouts & to the Rockwood lot & c., than picked apples, greenings, most of the day. They went home this P.M. Emeline & I cut applies to dry this eve. THURSDAY 9 Very pleasant & very warm & windy. Picked apples part the day. Finished the greenings side the road & picked the apples in little orchard, all of them. dug a small load of potatoes. Father & Fremont helped. Frank worked here to day.

TUESDAY 14 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 1862 Cloudy most of the day & warm, began to storm about 2 oclock P.M. Dug potatoes most of the __?__ till it stormed. Father & Fremont helped. Father carried off a passenger. Jos has been to Boston. Geo Frost got his horse to day. SATURDAY 11 Stormy most of the day & cold. Picked over some apples, dug a few potatoes. We picked the tree of greenings back of old shop & c & c. In eve went to a husking at Mr. Chaseses. Got home at 11 oclock P.M. SUNDAY 12 Cloudy & cold. Went to meeting in A.M. Emeline didnt go to day. Rev. J. R. Deering preached. Cloudy most all day & cool. Churned. Picked a few apples. Chored about house some & c. Mr. Nasons horse run & tiped the carriage over & c, he was here. This P.M. Dug potatoes. Fremont & father helped & Dea Pond helped part for carying his flour. WEDNESDAY 15 Very pleasant most of A.M. but clouded up before noon. Chored about house some. Washed the covered wagon some & c & c. Dea Pond worked here part of the day, commenced at 9 oclock & worked till a while past noon. We finished digging our potatoes. I carried some down cellar & c. Jos has been to Boston & Father, Abbie & Marianna went to Milford to cattle show.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Have been to meeting all day. Rev J. R. Deering preached. Emeline didnt go meeting this eve at 6 oclock but didnt go (concert). Mrs. O. Adams & little girl here to tea. MONDAY 20 Rained some in the night. Very pleasant today but windy & cold. Helped about house some. Picked some apples & sorted some & carried the pumpkins out to gather & c & c. Jos carried Mahlon Danielses folks to Mendon. They moved to day. TUESDAY 21 24 above zero Very pleasant & cool. Very hard frost last night. Got part of the apples down cellar & picked some ( the Pecks & Pleasants). Drawed up the pumpkins & c. & c. Jos went to H. C. Fishers Auction & Father went to Geo. Granites cider mill & Mother to Mr. Phersons.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1862 Cloudy most of the day & cool. Sorted the potatoes & got them down cellar. The last of them. Had about 125 bushls. Picked apples most of P.M. in race meadow, the large Russet tree. Fremont helped in P.M. FRIDAY 17 Pleasant part & cloudy part the day. Stormed a very little. Picked apples most of the day. Finished the race meadow & the piece or cow by the pasture. Fremont & Father helped. This eve have been to a husking at Mancy Daniels. SATURDAY 18 Very pleasant & warm. Picked apples most of the day. Fixed an iron. Mahlon Daniels & c & c. In store some. Jos gone to Boston. Father & Mother carried him to Franklin. Hattie came home with Jos. to night.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 22, 1862 54 above zero Pleasant most of A.M. & warm but squally P.M. Very little rain & very windy. Churned some. Went up to the

other house & got the flail & thrashed the beans in old barn. Picked up a few apples & we cut up & got in 2 load of corn (1/2 we got). Sewing circle up to Hermons to day & eve. 35 above zero Very pleasant & cool, very windy. Worked & divided the butter. Went A Chestnuting , 2 hs & got 4 qts. Cut up the corn & got it in 2 load, the last of it, than went a chestnuting again & got 1 qts. Went all about this eve. Worked for Hermon turning shoes 2 + hours. 20 above zero Very frosty & cold in morn but quite pleasant & warm but windy. Went chestnuting up to Forge Hill & about in A.M. Got 3 qts. Picked Apples this P.M. & this eve have been to a little donation for Mrs. Harding at Mr. Phersons. FRIDAY 24 THURSDAY 23

MONDAY 27 Stormy all day & not very cold. Brought the stove down from the atic & put in our front room & c. Picked over apples part the day. Father finished the husking & have pitched the husks up. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Went up to Hermons & helped him weld up & turn out a set of heavy shoes & c. 1 hs. Helped father shoe the horse. Cut up the sweet corn & pulled the pole beans. Sorted a few apples. In store some & c & c. Jos been to Geo. Grants cider mill. WEDNESDAY 29 Cloudy most of the day & warm. Cleaned the cider mill & ground & pressed a few apples for cider, apple sauce. Sorted a few. Got the beans in to old shop. Went up to

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1862 Pleasant part & cloudy part of the day & warm. We pitched up some husks & c & c. than went up to Hermons & helped him set 2 heavy tires & turn 10 shoes, 3 hs. Finished picking my apples than carried a Lady to Mrs. Whites & Mrs. Heatons & __?__ home. Emeline went with me. Called to Mr. Pherson. Went up with the other horse & c & c.

the other house & got 2 bushls corn. Helped shell it & c & c. Father drawed a load of wood for Mrs. Richardson. THURSDAY 30 Very pleasant & warm. Finished sorting the cider apples, pressed out a very little cider. Cut a little of my wood, chored about house some & c & c. Father & Mother went to Woonsocket & Father went & got Mrs. O. Adams for Jos. & carried her back. L. G. Baker took dinner with us to day.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1862 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Churned , pulled the turnips & beats & got them in. Thrashed out some beans of various kinds & c. & this eve helped Hermon 2 hs weld up old shoes (22). Father went & got part of Jos cider. Jos went to Boston. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1 Very pleasant & warm, like spring or summer. Finished getting out & winnowing the beans & c. Pulled & got down the French turnips. Spread the corn in barn & c & c. Father went to Woonsocket & to Wrentham & got Jos. cider. Jos been to Franklin to Circus to night. SUNDAY 2
Very pleasant & warm but very windy. Fixed the cider mill( new spring) & c & c. & ground out & pressed part of the apples (30 gal put up ) cider. Ground about 18 bushls some this eve. Was a paring bee at Dea Whiting to night for the Soldiers. We gave some apples. They peared 22 bushls.

TUESDAY 4 Very pleasant & cool. Ground out the remainder of the cider apples & pressed out part of them & c. Went to Town meeting in PM. Mrs. O. Adams washed for Mother & for us. I left my watch to Franklin to be cleaned. WEDNESDAY 5 Stormy part of A.M. & cloudy most of the day & warm. Pressed out some cider & got the 2 large casks down cellar. Dug & carried the dalias into the cellar & c & c Father went to Mr. R. Cooks & bought a heifer for $17.00. Jos & Abbie went to Boston

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1862 Stormy most all day. Cold N.E. rain storm. Staid at home all day. No preaching today here. I write to John & S. & to Father & Mother Metcalf & c. Emeline quite smart. MONDAY 10 Very pleasant cool & windy. Mrs. O. Adams washed & ironed for me & washed for mother. I helped about it some & about house some in A.M. and in P.M. went to Woonsocket to mill to store & c. Dr. has been here to day. TUESDAY 11 Very pleasant & quite warm. Chored about house some, clearing away snow & c. Went to Jos Clarks & got a syrainge. Boiled a large kettle of potatoes for hogs. Cleaned the cider mill & carried the primis out & c. Fixed a place to keep the pigs. Father has been to Cumberland & bought 2 for 5.00. I have been to Hermons & got a __?__ shell

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1862 Stormy part & cloudy most all day. Worked for Hermon turning shoes 6 hours (70. Father pressed out some watered cider today. Jos & Abbie went to Dr. Metcalfs to get her tooth out. Mother was to Hermons a visiting. Pleasant & good __?__ this eve but cold. FRIDAY 7 Stormy all day, a very driving N. E. snow storm, cold. Emeline taken sick about 9 oclock last eve & had a boy 8 lbs about 12 oclock this P.M., was very sick. I was up all night and have been in house most of the day with them till I carried Mrs. Dean home and went & got Mrs. Wilson to work for me. SATURDAY 8 Stormed some & cloudy & damp all day, cold but thawed some. Chored about house some. Churned 12 lbs of butter. Cut & sawed what birch wood I had in wood house. Fixed a flower pot & took up the jeramiums & c & c. Emeline is quite smart. Dr. Nolan is here.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Carted 6 loads of dirt into the hog pen in A.M.. Cleared up round & in horse barn some. Fixed new plank for the drive way & drawed a load of gravel & put in there. Carried some apples down cellar. In store some. Jos been to Boston. Abbie went to Franklin with the horse. Picked a hen this eve. 2 above zero Cloudy & cold but has not stormed. Went to meeting in A.M. Carried lot of pumpkins & squashes down cellar. Staid at home in P.M. Emeline has been out here in the kitchen to day for the first time since she was sick. MONDAY 17 Stormy all day & warm rain. Went & got Mrs. O. Adams to wash for me. Sawed up & got in some wood. Churned. Went up to Mr. W. Chilson (& to the slaughter house) (in cars) to get him to kill the hogs tomorrow. Worked for Hermon 4 hs this P.M. & eve turning shoes & cutting bolts & c. Father most sick with a cold. SUNDAY 16

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 1862 Cloudy most all day & stormed some (rain) & warm. Cut a very little wood. We sorted the corn. I carried the good up to Jos house. (32 or more baskets). Chored about house some. Worked the butter. Carried in some squashes & pumpkins & c & c. Helped Jos a little about his corn. THURSDAY 13 Cloudy in morn but cleared off, very pleasant & warm. Carted 2 load of dirt into the hog pen from side of old barn, clearing away some for a little bridge in road by old barn. In house some & c & c. The eve have been to Hermons welding up old shoes 2 hs. Mr. Lewther Gould & some were below visiting to day. FRIDAY 14 Very pleasant & warm. Worked most of the day digging out for & making a little bridge by old barn across the road. Went up to Hermons & got a cider barrel. Dea Pond carried some apples of his to mill with our horse.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Thanksgiving to day. Have been about home all day. Was quite number here at Fathers to day. Jos family, Hermon & family, Richardson & Mr. Pherson & wife, John & Sarah, Uncle Nathan. FRIDAY 28 Pleasant & warm. John & Sarah started for home this morn. I went & got Lois A. Adams to work here. Sawed & got in the remainder of my birch wood & c & c. Father went to Boston. Tax colector here to day from 9 till 1 P.M. Uncle Nathan & Mother been to Mrs. Richardsons. warm Very Pleasant most all day but stormy this eve. Rain & snow. Coulored Uncle Nathans hair & c. Carted out part of the yard manure & heeped up part of it. Carted it into the hog pen. Drawed up & put in wood house fathers oakwood by R. R. & c & c. This eve, carried __? __ Heaton home. He came from War. Sick. Father went to Cider mill for Dea Pond. SATURDAY 29

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1862 Very pleasant & cold. Went to Ashland & got Sarah. Started about 8 oclock A.M. & got there about 12 oclock. Carried a passenger to Franklin. Called to Martha & to D. T. Briggses & to Wm. & Leonard Greens & we started for home about 4 P.M. & got here about 7 . Call at several places __?__ home. TUESDAY 25 Very pleasant & cool most of the day. Carted 4 load of manure out of barn yard by old shop & __?__ up a lot in the yard. In store some. See to Jos oxan. He went to Boston. We had company. Mr. & Mrs. Gay Lewis went home this morn. Sarah is here now. WEDNESDAY 26 Stormy, rained most of the day but snowed some this eve. Chored about house some & c. Helped Hermon turn shoes 4 hs. Went up to Metcalfs station this eve & got John Metcalf. Uncle Nathan came out to day.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 1862 Cloudy most of the day & cool Began to snow this eve. Cleared up some old stuff about log road & R.R. Began to fix the old shop some & c & c. Ground the axe. Father went & cut out Mrs. Pecks hog. THURSDAY 4 Very pleasant & cool. Went to Mr. Pherson to do his chores. Sawed him some wood. Shelled corn & c & c. We fixed the old shop some. Went up to Hermons & helped him turn shoes 3 hs (42 shoes) Emeline went down stairs this eve. FRIDAY 5 Pleasant in A.M. & cloudy P.M. & stormed a little. Snows this eve. Helped Mother about the washing some. Mr. Chilson killed our hog this P.M. We helped him & father went & helped him kill Mr. Phersons. I cut a little wood, cleaned the inwads & c & c. Helped Hermon turn shoes 2 hs this eve.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1862 Very pleasant & warm. Have been to meeting all day but didnt go this eve. Rev. Mr. Cook from Woonsocket preached. __?__ went this P.M. & eve. Edwin read came last night. MONDAY, DECEMBER 1 Stormy or cloudy all day. Rain, warm. Worked for Hermon 3 hours turning shoes. Carried Edwin Read to Mr. Everetts & to Franklin to see Fred Newell to work for him. Worked the butter & c & c. Helped Lois pear quinces this eve. TUESDAY 2 Very pleasant most of the day but had a snow squall or 2. Very windy. Helped about house washing & c some. Went & helped Mancy Daniels about dressing his hog some. Got the cider down cellar & c &c. Edwin Read went home this P.M. Mrs. O. Adams washed for us to day. Uncle Nathan went & got & carried her home. Father & Uncle N. went to Woonsocket.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6, 1862

Snowed part of the day than cleared off but very Windy & cold. Very bad being out the snow, blew so is about 1 ft deep. Churned. Cut out my half of the hog 316 lbs, 188 lbs, & salted it. Cut up the lard. __?__ chored around some & c. SUNDAY 7 At 8 oclock A.M. 8 above zero Very pleasant but very cold & blustering wind blew the snow some an was the coldest day we have had. Have been at home all day. Father went to meeting in A.M. Was but 4 there. No meeting to night. MONDAY 8 6 above zero Very pleasant & cold, clouded up toward night & warmer. Chored about the house some. Helped about the washing some. Got the sleighs out. Helped father turn some shoes, 4 for the horse. I turned one, first I ever turned. Cut an old apple tree in race meadow.

cutting up the old apple tree & drawed it up for me. Sears gone to the sing to night. WEDNESDAY 10 Very pleasant & cool. Jos & I went to Mr. Phersons & sawed & split his wood for him. Pitched up his husks & c in A.M. 3 hs. (Jos Caught 7 rats in one trap last night) went up to the other house & got some corn & father & Mr. Richardson went to Woonsocket this P.M. & I worked for Hermon 3 hs. THURSDAY 11 Very pleasant & warm. Thawy. Went up to Hermons & helped him make some irons for the reach & turn 9 shoes & c & c 2 hs. Father & I fixed a new Scuttle in horse barn & parted off a nest for the pigs on the platform under & c. Jos has been to Boston

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1862 Very pleasant , warm, thawy. Went up to Jos house & put up a little corn & father went to Frosts mill & to Mr. Pikes & got a corn sheller. I sawed & cut wood, the apple tree __?__ my wood house. Went to Mr. Haweses & got his sausage cutter & filler. Abbie & Emeline went to Aunt Pattys, she was sick. Carried Mrs. Wm. Adams home & went to see Mr. Hifferd for Hermon. Called at Jef Darlmes saw & cider mill. (went with the sleigh) Went to Mr. Pikes & got some beef to put in the sausage. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 1862 2 or 3 above zero Very pleasant A.M. & cold. Clouded up in P.M. Went up to Hermons & cut bolts & nuts & c for him 4 hs - in A.M. & in P.M. helped father about shoeing the horse. New sharped shoes all around & got the slead out & finished

Cloudy most of the day & warm. Helped father some about filling sausages. Split some of my wood, the remainder of the apple tree. Helped father grind up the axes. In store some. Set a pain of glass in cellar window & c. SUNDAY 14 Cloudy & foggy most of the day. Stormed some. Warm, the sun shined a while in P.M. Went to meeting all day. Rev. Mr. Cole from Sheldonville preached. Is no meeting to night. Jos & Abbie started to go to Ashland. Went as far as Medway & gave it up account of __?__.

some. Lois A. Adams went from here this morn & Emeline is alone now. Jos carried Abbie to the sewing circle at P. B. Clarks & has gone after her this eve with the horse.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1862 Very pleasant & cold. Cut wood at the door 1 load & got it in to my wood house & on loaded a load into fathers wood house. Went up & helped put up some corn & Father & Dea Pond went to Woonsocket. Chored about house some & c. Fred Newell here to Dinner. Dr. called here. FRIDAY 19 Pleasant & cool & windy. Helped Emeline some about washing. Sawed & got in some wood. We, father & I, went into the woods & got a load of old wood. Drawed up some old stuff from side of R.R. Father carried Mrs. Wm Adams home this eve & Jos carried Susan __?__. 0 zero Pleasant but very cold & windy, 7 above zero at 12 oclock P.M. Cut wood most of the day at door & in wood house. Chored about house some & c. Jos carried N. Haweses sausage machine home with the horse & drawed a load of wood into the shop. I settled with Mr. Moses. SATURDAY 20

MONDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1862 Very pleasant & very warm. Helped about the washing some. Fixed a box to the hay cutter. Fixed clothes dryer. Fixed or put rod through the sleigh. Helped father make a bull hook & other chores & c. Jos drawed 3 load of wood to Rev. J. R. Deering with the horse & c & c. TUESDAY 16 Very windy & cloudy & rained some, cleared off this P.M. Wheeled up some old wood & c from old barn. Cleared up the old shop. Cut up the wood & c in there. Wheeled the dirt & chip stuff into the hog pen & c & c. WEDNESDAY 17 Very pleasant & cool. Chored about some. Trimed out some wood side the R.R. We (father & I) got 2 large horse loads of wood (old wood) from the woods. Cut up

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. Helped Emeline some about the washing. Went to Jos Clarks & carried their syrainge home & some ointment. We set some hoops on the beef casks, washed & scaled them & c & c. I went after the Dr. Nolan for Frankie (Jos boy) Father & Dea Pond worked in the woods most of the day. Cut the beef out this eve. THURSDAY 25 Cloudy all day & warm, thawed some. Salted the beef. Drawed 5 load of green wood of fathers, 2 of walnut to Rev. J. R. Deering & 1 load of oak by the R. R. & 1 to door of small chestnut. At noon, went after Dr. Warren Metcalf to pull a tooth for Emeline but he was gone. Got in a little wood. Went after Dr. Nolan for Frankie this eve. FRIDAY 26 Stormy part & cloudy most all day & very warm. Chored about house some. Coppied off some of my old accts & c. Worked for Hermon 3 hours turning shoes, splitting steel & c & c. Cut apples & pie meat & c in eve & set up with Frankie till past 2 oclock. He is very sick.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 21, 1862 2 below zero Very pleasant & very cold. Went to meeting in A.M. & staid at home in P.M. & went after the folks with the horse & stoped till after the concert. Rev. J. R. Deering preached. Father carried the folks to meeting in the morn. MONDAY 22 14 above zero Snowed some in the morn & cloudy most all day & cold. Fixed for Lewis Chilson, came & killed the heifer. We helped some about it & have got it in to the cellar. It weighed 462 lbs., hide weighed 57 lbs. 31 above zero Cloudy most all day & thawed some. Father went to Woonsocket & carried a quarter of beef to Mr. Sargent, 87 lbs. I sawed & split wood at the door some. In house some. Went & cut 3 hoop poles & helped dig some tiver twig & c & c. TUESDAY 23

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 30, 1862 Cloudy most of the day & warm, thawy, very pleasant in morn. Trimed out side the R.R. & drawed it up , 1 load. Went to Mr. Frosts & got a load of shavings. Helped Father get some wood for Mrs. Harding & Mrs. Pherson. Cut up some wood than drawed & got it in. WEDNESDAY 31 Driving snow storm all day, commenced snowing last eve, has blowed the snow into barn. Sawed & split some wood in the wood house. Brought up my meat (stake) & cutup part of it & fixed it & c & c. Chored about house some. The cars freight stoped here & got water for the engine with the hoes.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27, 1862 Pleasant & very warm but clouded up toward night. Chored about home some. In house some. Coping off accts. Went after Aunt Patty but didnt get her. Carried Emeline & the baby to Capt Deans & called at Rev. J. R. Deerings. The first time the baby been out. In store some. Jos been to Boston. SUNDAY 28 Cloudy most all day & chilly but thawed some. Mother & I went to Franklin to the afternoon meeting. Went about 10 A.M. so to get there to Comunion. Rev. S. Hunt preached the yearly discourse. MONDAY 29 Very pleasant & warm. Fixed my clothes dryer & helped Emeline about the washing some. Helped grind the bill hook & axe & hatchet. Cut some birch & c side of race meadow & trimed out some stuff side of the R.R.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1862 Very pleasant & cool. We fixed for & Mr. Whipple Chilson came & killed 2 of our hogs. We helped him some. We sold one to Mrs. O. Adams 358 lbs (7 cts lbs or 26.25) to be paid in Dec. I carried it up there & came home through Franklin to go to the store. WEDNESDAY 19 Cloudy all day & stormed some, warm. Got in some wood. Cut a little, carried Rev. J. R. Deerings apples, 2 bbls down to him. Cut out my half of the hog & c & c. Abbie gone to Ashland with Mrs. O. Adams. 60 above zero Cloudy & stormy most all day & warm. Have been at work on the meat cleaning, the barrel & salting the pork, clearing up in barn & c & c. I staid with Jos. last night. THURSDAY 20

Adams & brought Lois A. Adams home with me to work. SUNDAY 23 Pleasant but windy & cold. Carried Mrs. Wilson home in morn (to Franklin) Went to meeting in A.M. Rev. J. R. Deering preached. Staid at home this P.M. & eve. Lois went. Emeline & the boy are getting along quite smart.
