Oracle Software Download and Support: a guide for IBMers Copyright 2011, IBM Corporation

Abstract
This document provides guidelines for IBMers on downloading Oracle software for IBM internal use only projects. It also includes information on how to obtain support for this software after it is downloaded. This process is not to be used for any customer related activity.

Disclaimer
Before downloading any Oracle software please ensure that your intended use of the software is covered under the terms of the Oracle licensing agreement. The Oracle licensing agreement only allows IBM to use the Oracle software for internal development or test purposes. If in doubt, please contact your organizations legal department for advice. Appendix 1 of this document has an overview of the general Oracle guidelines for downloading its software, as described on the Oracle Partner website. As of May 2011, this document does not cover the formerly SUN software products that are now part of Oracle, after the acquisition of SUN Microsystems by Oracle. See section 2 for more details. This document is for IBM internal use only.

1. Introduction
IBM and Oracle have been working together to solve clients business problems since 1986. The two companies have over 140,000 common installations running Oracle solutions, ranging from small to very large enterprises. Before IBM and Oracle can sell and install our joint solutions there is a very substantial amount of work done around the enablement and development of these solutions. This is important to know, especially in some sales situations where there may also be a need to demonstrate our joint effort towards the solutions to our prospective customers. At the IBM Oracle International Competency Center (ICC) we are often asked how the people working on IBM enablement and demonstration projects can get access to Oracle software to support these activities. This document is intended to help address these questions by providing an overview of where the software can be found, how to access it, and who is entitled to use it. The document also includes information on how to get Oracle support for the downloaded software. Finally, there is a section that describes some of the various Oracle websites and userids available to IBMers as sources of additional information. Detailed instructions on how to register for these websites and userids is provided. This document closes with instructions on where to go for more in-depth information on this subject. This document assumes that the reader has basic familiarity with IBM hardware products and Oracle software products. In-depth knowledge of these products is not required.

2. How to obtain and download Oracle software

Oracles software is available to approved partners for download through the Oracle Partner Network (OPN) at this website http://www.oracle.com/partners/ . The IBM and Oracle Partner agreement allows IBMers to download Oracle products for certain development and demonstration purposes, for use on

Oracle Software Download and Support : a guide for IBMers Copyright 2011, IBM Corporation

IBM owned hardware on IBM premises. This OPN access cannot be used for any customer situation, such as PoCs ( proof of concepts, benchmarks, etc.) To determine if your planned development or demonstration project qualifies for access to Oracle software under the IBM and Oracle partner agreement please review the subset of the Development and Demonstration Licenses document included in Appendix 1. This excerpt should allow you determine if your intended use of the Oracle software would qualify under this agreement before you register for an Oracle Web Account access. After reading Appendix 1, if you feel that your project qualifies for access to Oracle software under the Development and Demonstration Licenses agreement, then the next step is to register for access to the Oracle Partner Network (OPN). First you will need to register for an Oracle Web Account in order to gain access to the OPN. To register for an Oracle Web Account please ensure that you have a valid IBM e-mail address. Any person attempting to register with a non-IBM e-mail address will be denied access. The registration process will require a Company ID Number, which is available from the ICC by e-mail request to ibmoracl@us.ibm.com. In addition to a Company ID Number, IBM also has an Oracle CSI (customer Support Identification) number. The CSI number is used to validate access to My Oracle Support, formerly known as Oracle Metalink. This is a website that provides a variety of technical information about Oracle solutions, including question and answers, forums, access to patches and also access to the latest Oracle certification information. The IBM CSI number provided by Oracle as part of the Oracle Partner Program can not be used on IBM Hardware that is providing Applications on Demand or any outsourcing services for companies that have out-sourced their IT departments to IBM. In this case the customer should have a contract for support with Oracle. Via this contract, the installation receives its own CSI number by Oracle support. Again, as with the OPN number, the IBM CSI number is only for demo and development efforts , not for any situation where the customer is paying revenue to IBM for the service provided. Most IBMers will not have a need for the CSI number. In order to have access to My Oracle Support, an IBMer can use the read-only shared userid that we have. This userid and its password can be obtained by sending a request to the ICC, at ibmoracl@us.ibm.com Please note also that you must use the Oracle Web Login Account, referred above, before downloading Oracle software. IBM as an Oracle Business Partner, uses the OPN (Oracle Partner Network) and the terms and agreements defined in OPN are linked to this procedure. In theory, one can go to Oracles e-Delivery website which has a click-thru agreement. This is NOT covered under the IBM and Oracle partner agreement and the user following this procedure is proceeding at his/her own legal risk. The registration process to obtain the Oracle Web Account can be initiated by visiting: http://www.oracle.com/partners/index.html Please refer to section 4.5 (Instructions to access Oracle Partner Network) in this document for a summary of the steps necessary to obtain a userid with OPN. Here is a copy of the instructions described in section 4.5 of this document: Go to http://www.oracle.com/partners/index.html

Click on Join now Click on OPN Portal/Partner Relationship (PRM) Application access which is above the Step1 to join the Oracle PartnerNetwork program: http://www.oracle.com/partners/en/opn-program/membership-resources/step1-register-020954.htm Click on the GO button to the left of step 1 . This will open a new page. Fill out the boxes on that page Click on Create your Oracle Web account now. Enter the email address and password, confirm it to go to the profile Enter all the personal details and enter the OPN Company ID Number to get registered under your company's profile. Submit the profile in order to get the confirmation message. Once a web account is registered, please wait for the activation of the user account. So, an individual has to wait during this interval of time in order to access the OPN portal once the username gets registered. During the registration process, be sure to select Yes for the question in the Web Account profile section regarding whether you are a Partner and use the supplied Company ID number. Once you have registered for access to the OPN, please read the entire overview explaining the terms of the development and demonstration licenses and verify that you are entitled to access Oracle software under this agreement. The overview is available under the tab called development at the OPN website. Please remember that if the intended use of the Oracle software license is to develop products and offerings that utilize an Oracle solution, then customers who purchase the offering would be required to purchase separately the requisite licenses for the Oracle product. Next you are ready to log in to the OPN and download the Oracle software that you need for your project. Once logged into the Oracle Partner Network, choose Development from the navigation area on the left. Then choose whether you want to download Oracle Technology or Application software. Some of the choices for software available for download are: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne PeopleSoft Enterprise E-Business Suite Siebel software Oracle Technology (such as Oracle Database, Oracle Application Server, etc.) Additional Oracle products (the portfolio changes with new acquisitions by Oracle Corporation) (As Oracle acquires other companies and merges them into the existing Oracle operations, more software download options are made available through this process). Once you select Oracle software product to download you will be redirected to the Oracle E-Delivery web site. There you will need to enter the following information: Name Company Name E-mail address Country

Next you must read and agree to the licensing and export restrictions, then select the correct Media Pack and desired Platform. Please note that when accepting the Terms & Agreement of the License, select the "OR , I have already obtained a license from Oracle which governs my use of the software ", since IBM's legal agreement as an Oracle Partner provides for this extension. However, the code can be used only for IBM internal development, tests and customer demonstrations as outlined in the licensing agreement. There are no license keys required for this code. This software is not meant to be used in a production environment. It is the responsibility of the person downloading the software to comply with these legal restrictions. If you followed the instructions correctly, you should have a copy of the Oracle software that you requested. This copy does not include maintenance or upgrades to the original product. If you need product maintenance or an upgrade, please follow the instructions described in the next chapter titled How to obtain support for downloaded Oracle software.

2.1 What about Java Technology and other SUN Microsystems software products?
Java Technology (SDK, JRE, JVM and other Java components) are licensed by IBM under the Technology License and Distribution Agreement (TLDA). This is an agreement completed before the acquisition of Sun by Oracle. For a list of Java Technology, please go to the IBM Java Information Manager (JIM) website at http://w3.hursley.ibm.com/java/ . Use Java Technology ONLY from this website and do NOT download code directly from the Sun / Oracle websites or anywhere else. Any IBM person or organization that downloads Java Technology for IBM internal use and/or for distribution with IBM Products/Services or Assets must only use the Java Technology from JIM and follow the guidelines on that website. As more information and procedures are made available on how to download software products that used to be part of SUN Microsystems, this document will be updated, if necessary.

3. How to obtain support for downloaded Oracle software

Oracle technical support is available on Oracle's support website My Oracle Support. This website provides the latest information on patches for Oracle products. It also has many answers to customer question, opened via SRs ( Service Requests). As mentioned earlier, an IBMer can access this website by requesting a shared userid to the IBM Oracle ICC. Other websites such as OTN (Oracle Technology Network) also provide a wealth of technical information. When you download Oracle software you receive the product at certain level. If you want to apply patches to this product or upgrade to a higher level you should follow the instructions in this chapter. Upgrades and patches are available only via regular Oracle support, including via the My Oracle Support website. It is expected that a trained and experienced individual will be involved in the installation and configuration of the downloaded Oracle software. This person is supposedly involved on a formal

Oracle Software Download and Support : a guide for IBMers Copyright 2011, IBM Corporation

development engagement with Oracle, is building a generic demo or is involved in training and education in accordance with our agreement with Oracle. When running Oracle software for development and demos, please note that Oracle can only be engaged for support of software errors such as broken code. Support for how to install and for general questions is not available. Please note that technical support is not provided with development licenses. For example, you will not be able to open Service Requests (SRs) To purchase product support for development licenses please send an email to partnerbusinesscentre-nas_ww@oracle.com . Product support provides the ability to log service requests (SRs, formerly known as TARs) and get technical assistance via the phone and the web. You should provide the number of developers to be supported and the specific products being used. Keep in mind that Oracle does not support installation or configuration questions for software downloaded through OPN.

4. How to obtain access to the various Oracle support websites and userids
This section describes some of the main websites that Oracle provides for product support and how to obtain access to them.

4.1 Accessing Oracle Support Website

Oracles My Oracle Support ( https://support.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html ) website is the main support site for all Oracle Products. It provides certification matrices, questions and answers and product documentation. A special userid and password is required to access the Support website. The Oracle Support site also provides access to the Oracle trouble ticket database. The Oracle term Service Request (SR) is analogous to the IBM term Problem Management Record (PMR). IBM has a read-only access ID for IBMers to access the technical or certification information or to download patches. No IBM customers or IBM Business Partners are allowed to use this ID. This userid is available to IBM as a partner which entitles IBM to a CSI ( Customer Support Identification) number. Oracle customers and other Oracle Business Partners must have their won CSI number. Patches and patchsets accessed from this ID can only be downloaded for Oracle products used for marketing, development or demonstration purposes that are installed on IBM owned hardware on IBM premises. The read-only ID and password can be obtained by contacting ibmoracl@us.ibm.com. This userid will allow you to do extensive research and download patches but will not allow you to open a SR. The password changes periodically for security reasons. Make sure you have the latest password and never try to change or update the password by yourself. This would affect all the other IBMers using this same userid, and thus potentially affecting our business activities.

Oracle Software Download and Support : a guide for IBMers Copyright 2011, IBM Corporation

These user IDs cannot be shared outside IBM. They are for IBM internal use only and should not be used for competitive research. Please do not share this userid nor the CSI with customers or Business Partners and only share with IBMers who have a need to know. Oracle is constantly evolving their support model into a single support interface as they acquire other companies such as Hyperion, BEA, SUN etc. Oracle includes the acquired company software in the normal support process. Make sure that you refer to the latest documentation on Oracles Partner website or consult with the IBM Competency Center with specific questions.

4.2 Opening a Service Request (SR)

As part of the Oracle PartnerWorld agreement IBM can open a limited number of SRs for support of server technology products (Database, Application Server, and Enterprise Manager). To do this you need to create your own Support ID that uses the IBM Customer Support Identifier (CSI) which can be obtained from ibmoracl@us.ibm.com. Again the IBM CSI can only be used to request support for problems occurring on IBM hardware on IBM premises. Given the limitations on opening SRs, a strong business justification must be provided to request a CSI number. With this CSI number, an IBMer could possible create his/her own userid. However, these kinds of requests, unlike the requests for a read-only userid, needs to be thoroughly reviewed and may take longer. Many times, they are not approved. If you need to open a SR for Oracle E-Business Suite, your IBM organization should purchase a support contract with Oracle as unlimited support is not included in our partner agreement. If you are working at a customer site, you must use the customer CSI to report problems experienced by the customer. The IBM CSI is only to be used to open problems on development or demo systems. Therefore, you cannot open severity one problems with the IBM CSI as that is reserved for problems on production systems that are causing severe impact. Raising the severity level of an SR is not the way to escalate an SR. If you feel the need to escalate your SR, please first read the My Oracle Support note Oracle Escalation Process [ID 548859.1]. The correct process is to call Oracle support, ask to escalate and ask to speak to a Duty Manager or ask in your SR to escalate and to speak to a Duty Manager.

4.3 Oracle Technology Network (OTN)

The Oracle Technology Network support site provides technical information and Oracle product downloads that includes Oracle Database, Middleware, Enterprise Management (GRID software), utilities and drivers. Discussion forums and documentation can also be accessed at this site. The products available for downloads on OTN are the first version of the release of the product (such as Database 11g Release 11.1.06. The patch sets to upgrade to the latest levels are downloaded from the Oracle Support website (such as the Database 11.1.07 patch set). So, an IBMer must first access the Oracle Partner Network website ( and sometime the OTN website) to obtain the basic code and after obtaining the base code, he/she needs to access the My Oracle Support website to download the latest patch set. Your single signon userid should allow you to login to the OTN website.

Oracle Software Download and Support : a guide for IBMers Copyright 2011, IBM Corporation

The OTN website is available at:http://otn.oracle.com

4.4 Oracle Store

If you can not find the Oracle software you are looking for using the procedures outlined above, you may be able to purchase the software from Oracle instead. Oracle products can be purchased from the Oracle Store at: https://shop.oracle.com/pls/ostore/f?p=dstore:home:1793225593930450&tz=-7:00 You do not need a special userid to access this website

4.5 Instructions to access Oracle Partner Network

We already discussed this item in chapter 2. This is a summary of the instructions: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Go to http://partner.oracle.com/ Click on Join OPN Now Click on Click on OPN Portal Access Click on Register and Update Click on Create your Oracle Account Now. Fill in your email address and password in the box provided. Fill in your profile and the OPN Company ID Number and hit confirm. Read the Agreement and click on continue.

Note: If you already have a username in oracle.com then you will need to just update the OPN Company ID Number to your oracle.com account. Partners creating a new web account or updating the OPN Company ID Number to their existing account will get full access to the OPN site only after 7 to 8 hours as the system has to badge the username to the OPN Company ID number No.
