An invention is closest to the heart of the one who had the idea for it. This is why we are doing everything to refine the automobile sustainably and with the utmost respect for the environment. All of our processes are geared towards producing vehicles that maximise the conservation of resources from planning and production to recycling. This comprehensive approach, which we call BlueEFFICIENCY, also includes our vehicle innovations that drastically reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The approach is based on three drive technologies designed to provide the ideal car for any mobility requirements. Firstly vehicles with exceptionally efficient internal combustion engines, secondly vehicles with intelligent hybrid technology and thirdly locally emission-free vehicles with battery or fuel cell. In 2010 you can already choose from more than 85 Mercedes-Benz models with BlueEFFICIENCY technologies, which enable you to save fuel and conserve the environment. As you can see, the future does not just begin tomorrow at Mercedes-Benz. It has already begun. Fast forward to tomorrow.

Introduction BlueEFFICIENCY NGT BlueTEC HYBRID BlueTEC HYBRID F-CELL E-CELL Model overview
BlueEFFICIENCY
Our engineers have analysed every vehicle and engine in detail in order to develop a wealth of new solutions for further reducing fuel consumption and emissions. We have brought together these ideas in our BlueEFFICIENCY packages: each model combines lightweight design, technologies for intelligent energy management and improved aerodynamics with the most efficient engines. Our model series allow you to reduce your fuel consumption and your CO2 emissions by up to 23% for example with the C-Class BlueEFFICIENCY. Proof that many small improvements combined can be of great benefit to the environment.

Other cars take you from A to B. The fuel-efficient E-Class also takes
you from A to Z
BlueEFFICIENCY
With an E-Class BlueEFFICIENCY, not only do you arrive feeling relaxed, you also go much further, as the new engines offer greater refinement and lower fuel consumption. By way of example, the 4-cylinder powerplants deliver a fuel saving of 20% compared to the previous model, while driver assistance systems help you to drive even more efficiently, for instance by indicating the right time to change gear. Furthermore, models with a turbocharger and variable valve timing provide more torque, which increases dynamism. So you dont miss out on driving enjoyment either when tackling long routes from A to Z.

Leaves the preconception that ecofriendly cars have to look dull miles
behind it
BlueEFFICIENCY
A Mercedes-Benz cabriolet has always been one of the best places to enjoy the environment with all the senses. In the E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY Cabriolet, you can now do your bit for the environment at the same time. Thanks to a wealth of innovations that slash pollutant emissions. The piezo injectors, for example, which inject fuel extremely efficiently and thus reduce both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Or the ECO start/stop function, which allows you to wait at red lights or in traffic jams without producing any emissions. It shuts off the idling engine and starts it again instantaneously when you press the clutch pedal. And it is already available for many models. As you can see, even standing still can benefit the environment.

Our natural-gas drive doesn't cost the earth. But it does reduce pollutants by
NGT
Many people want a car that saves them money as well as saving the environment. They need look no further than the B 180 NGT BlueEFFICIENCY with natural-gas technology, which can already cut your costs by 50% as well as reducing pollutants by 80% and CO2 emissions by over 20%. You can switch between natural gas and premium petrol simply by pushing a button on the steering wheel. Whats more, the two tanks increase the range by 30% compared to a conventional vehicle. Further benefits include exceptionally low premiums with some insurers and tax breaks available for natural gas up until 2018. The best thing about it is that not only do you benefit, so does the environment.

We make the problems with diesel engines dissolve into thin air and
a little water
BlueTEC
A Mercedes-Benz diesel engine is characterised by high torque and low fuel consumption. In the ML 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC, it also stands for a low-emission vehicle. Thats because the BlueTEC emission control system converts 90% of the nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water. The toxic gas is rendered harmless in a chemical reaction. Particulate is also given no chance, as 95% of it is filtered by the system. All BlueTEC models therefore already meet the requirements of the stringent EU6 emissions standard due to come into force in 2014. Isnt it great when problems suddenly cease to be problems?

The leading duo. Petrol engine with electric motor for even more
efficiency
HYBRID
Joining forces makes a lot of things easier, more powerful and more economical our S 400 HYBRID being a perfect case in point. It is the first luxury saloon to combine a petrol engine and an electric motor with a standardfit 120-volt lithium-ion battery. So the vehicle offers you a maximum of 160 Nm in addition, which you will feel right away when you start off. A further advantage is that you consume up to 20% less fuel in city traffic, thanks among other things to the brakes. When you press the brake pedal, the battery is charged with the kinetic energy recuperated during braking. All of which makes the S-Class the perfect car for all those who attach as much importance to innovative technologies as they do to the environment.

BlueTEC HYBRID
Our clean diesel technology is getting even cleaner. Thats because, from 2011, we are equipping our diesel powerplants with an additional electric drive, which saves fuel, especially in city traffic, and reduces CO2 emissions. Whats more, the combination of the two engine technologies offers you more power from the moment you start off. The electric motor assists the internal combustion engine and triggers a boost effect: the vehicle accelerates more quickly and more cleanly than ever before. Pressing the brake pedal is all it takes to recharge the battery, as an alternator recuperates energy during braking. But this is definitely not our last word on the topic of clean diesel.

Other cars move people whereas this one could move all of humanity.
F-CELL
The standard-fit fuel cell is no longer a question of technology, merely a question of time. We are the only car manufacturer to have already clocked up 4.5 million test kilometres with this innovative drive system. From 2010, selected customers will hit the road in one of our B-Class F-CELL models being produced on a small scale. They are powered by hydrogen and, when driven, produce just water vapour instead of CO2. The electric drive system with fuel cell is expected to be ready for series production from 2015, meaning that you too will be able to get to your destination with zero local emissions.

E-CELL
Electrical current has brought humankind a long way already. Now it is set to take it even further. From autumn 2010, a small series of A-Class E-CELL models with powerful lithium-ion battery will be produced and then driven by selected customers. An output of up to 70 kW and a torque of 290 Nm provide plenty of forwards thrust. Our solutions for electrically powered mobility are powerful and clean as well as simple and comfortable. By way of example, the battery is housed so that it does not take up any space in the interior. The new A-Class E-CELL is available as standard with the high-grade AVANTGARDE trim. To fully emphasise the joy and benefits of electric driving.

in accordance with national regulations to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes gross weight. Mercedes-Benz passenger cars have met the statutory regulations governing the suitability of their design for reuse and recycling for a number of years now. A network of vehicle take-back depots and dismantlers has been established which will process your vehicle in an environment-friendly manner. The ways in which both vehicles and parts can be recovered are subject to ongoing development and improvement. Consequently, Mercedes-Benz passenger cars will be able to comply with any future increases in the recycling quota within the stipulated time limits.
