Rewrite #2 Immigration is now easier than before because of the development of technology and air flight. However, limits may have reached in some developed countries like the United States. Two authors argue about the limits in the US, Dr.L.Rist with Live and let live , 2008 March, published on San Francisco News and Leonard Skinard with Time to limit Immigration , 4 July 2009, published in The Alabama Sentinel. This essay will critically respond to these two article.

First, Dr. Rist claims that immigrants do not drain massively on the US s resources. She believes the contribution of some immigrants is higher than their normal tax and. In addition, immigrants are the hardest workers. She support her ideas by citing K. Cross, 2009 National Statistics association, that the immigrants are younger and healthier with an average age of just 22 while the US citizen is 48.

Skinard avers that the US resources are drained by immigration. He believes that the immigrants do not contribute enough for the US government and they become a burden to this country s economy. As a result , it will make the economy go down. Moreover, the number of immigrants should be limited to 200.000 per year. Besides, they have to be chosen by their ability to make a full contribution.

Dr. Rist fails to convince the readers that immigrants contribute more in taxes than they cost the government when they first arrive. Immigrants may contribute less at the beginning, but most are quite successful overtime. In addition, Skinard fails to convince the reader that the immigrants can take away the national resources. The number of immigrants is much less than the population of the US. So, the economy going down is not a result of immigration.

Rist argue that cultural diversity is not harmful. Diversity brings more benefits for the US. There are choices for the citizens to choose from food to their radio choice of channel. For example, Cuban food and cocktails in Florida, Salsa FM or different cuisines are in New York. However, Skinard says that multiculturalism can lead to conflict and violence. He gives an example of turning radio in Miami; it is very difficult to avoid the Latin music, the Spanish talks on radio. This makes some racist people angry.

Dr.Rist misses a point that immigrants not only bring benefits but also a negative side because of criminals or misunderstanding between cultures. Many criminals may run from other countries to the US and can commit crimes which harm the US citizens. Moreover misunderstanding may happen with violence as Skinard says. Skinard fails to convince the reader with his evidence. There may be some racists in America, but they should not be the ones to choose about immigration. There is choice in America.

There are some credibility issues in their paragraph. Dr.Rist uses emotive language such as narrow minded supporters .It makes her arguments less credible. Skinard generalizes about immigrants when he states that immigrants is the result of the downturn of the US s economy. He might be biased because he is the president of the Freebird Institute for immigration limitation that he will only support the limit of immigration. Moreover, he does not give any sources for the readers to convince more in his arguments.

In conclusion, both of authors, Leonard Skinard and Dr.L.Rist , have their own arguments to the limit of the immigration in the US. Their ideas about multiculturalism, the US s economy can help the citizens realize the risk from the immigration or it is just a normal development of the diversity in the US. 595 words
