The pharmaceutical world wont stop running, and maybe some of you will be practicing in a community pharmacy, travelling on an internship or getting active at the local pharmacy students association to help enhance their career prospects. Surgeons carry out first synthetic windpipe transplant

Surgeons in Sweden have carried out the world's first synthetic organ transplant.Scientists in London created an artificial windpipe which was then coated in stem cells from the patient. Crucially, the technique does not need a donor, and there is no risk of the organ being rejected. The surgeons stress a windpipe can also be made within days. The key to the latest technique is modelling a structure or scaffold that is an exact replica of the patient's own windpipe, removing the need for a donor organ. Read more

Young women say they flock to tanning salons to gain a healthy glow that adds to their natural beauty, protects them from the sun's rays and fills them with self-confidence. Except none of it is true or lasting. A deep tan may help project beauty and confidence for a while, but health experts stress that it will eventually give way to permanent skin damage caused by the ultraviolet rays emitted by a tanning bed -- damage up to and including potentially deadly skin cancer. EMA plans public access to information on side effects

The European Medicines Agency has published its plans for granting public access to the information held in its databases of the potential side effects of human and veterinary medicines. The two policies explain the Agency's plans to release information held in its EudraVigilance and EudraVigilance Veterinary databases. These are the central repositories for reports of suspected adverse reactions related to medicines authorised in the European Economic Area and medicines being studied in clinical trials. Read more

Researchers have found that drinking green tea lowers bad cholesterol without affecting levels of good cholesterol in your blood. High levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol are known to raise your risk of developing heart disease, while high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol has a protective effect on your heart. BHFs senior heart health dietitian, Victoria Taylor, said:f This l review of previous s o l o w u studies suggests green tea could have a positive effect on reducing our total cholesterol level, as well as the bad LDL element.
