Continuing our rich and rewarding re:New summer process, we are privileged to host the Rev (Dr.) D. Newell Williams as our guest preacher this Sunday. Dr. Williams is the President of Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University and the Professor of Modern and American Church History. He has co-edited with Douglas A. Foster, Paul M. Blowers and Anthony L. Dunnavant, The Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement (William B. Eerdmans Publishing Co., 2004) and is the author of Barton Stone: A Spiritual Biography, (St. Louis, Mo. Chalice Press, 2000). He

By Rev. Dr. Jerry Black, Associate Minister has edited A Case Study of Mainstream Protestantism: The Disciples Relation to American Culture, 1880-1989, (Eerdmans Publishing Co., 1991). Numerous articles and chapters to books are among his other significant contributions. Dr. Williams is an Ordained Minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); a member of the American Academy of Religion, the American Society of Church History, the Association of Disciples for Theological Discussion, and the StoneCampbell Dialogue. He holds a Ph.D. (1979) and M.A. (1975) from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. from University of Tulsa (1971). He is married to the Rev. Sue McDougal, and they are the parents of three children. Early in his academic career, Dr. Williams served at Brite as the Assistant

Professor of Church History and as Assistant (1978-1983) and later Associate Dean (1983-1984). From 1984 - 2003 he taught at Christian Theological Seminary, where he served as Vice President and Dean from 1992 - 1998. Using 2 Corinthians 4:1-6, Dr. Williams will preach on Seeing the Light. His sermon will feature the view of God that we find in the writings of our Disciples founders and the implications it has for us as contemporary Disciples of Christ. So join us this Sunday to greet and host the Rev (Dr.) Newell Williams, President of Brite Divinity School.

On Sunday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m., we invite ALL children ages 3 years through 5th Grade to the Chapel for a special promotion into a new Sunday school class and a new year in Childrens Ministry. Children will have an opportunity to meet their new teachers, be shown their classrooms, and get to know or be reintroduced to their church buddies. Also, our new 1st graders will receive their bibles, courtesy of Disciples Women. Help support your childs faith development - Bring them to Sunday school!

Ladies - Join us for a great opportunity to study Gods word, grow spiritually and fellowship with one another. Come experience the greatness and power of God in the study of: by Beth Moore. This 11 session study of Revelation is to help increase worship, anticipation and yes, even the fear of God in willing hearts and to light a fire in our spirits to study Revelation in greater depth. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sing with the choir at First Christian? Come try it out! Join the fun at a choir retreat to see an overview of the upcoming fall music and meet the other choir members. Lets gather in the Fellowship Hall at 9 a.m. for donuts and move into the Sanctuary at 9:30 a.m. to sing through the music. (Childcare will be provided) Cant make it to the retreat? Thats ok!
