Checklist for Submissions

(updated 05 August 2010)

Please complete this checklist before submitting articles to the New Zealand Veterinary Journal to ensure your submission is complete. Detailed Instructions for Authors and Manuscript Release Forms can be downloaded from www.vetjournal.org.nz and are available from the Editorial Office on request.

Preparation of manuscripts
I have read the latest Instructions for Authors and prepared my manuscript in accordance with these. The work conforms with the ethical standards described in the MAF Users Guide to Part 6 of the New Zealand Animal Welfare Act 1999, accessible at www.biosecurity.govt.nz/legislation/animal-welfareact/part6/index.htm, and in the Good Practice Guide for the Use of Animals in Research, Testing and Teaching published by the National Animal Ethics Advisory Committee (2002), accessible at: www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/regs/animal-welfare/pubs/naeac/guide-for-animals-use.pdf, as set out in the Instructions for Authors, and all experimental work involving animal or human subjects complies with the legal and ethical requirements of the institution(s) at and in the jurisdictions under which the work was done. Studies using client-owned animals must be performed with informed client consent and demonstrate a high standard (best practice) of veterinary care. The Abstract contains the appropriate sub-headings, including Key words. A list of abbreviations used is included after the Abstract. The Introduction contains a clear statement of aims. The Materials and Methods contains a clear description of all statistical analyses conducted. The Discussion ends with a brief summary of conclusions and the clinical relevance of findings (as applicable). Tables have been constructed using the Table function of a word processor (MS Word preferred), with each entry in a separate cell, avoiding tabs or line breaks within cells. The article contains a section for Acknowledgements that includes reference to all sources of funding. All references have been verified against original articles, and authors have checked that all references cited in the text are included in the Reference list (and vice versa). The format of the reference list conforms to that in the Instructions for Authors. The article has undergone (institutional) peer review prior to submission. All co-authors have read the article and agree to submission.
