conference guide
Our conference is designed to be a reflection of the enormous potential within each of us and to provide groundbreaking solutions coupled with
August 18, 2008 fuel for the human spirit. We recognize that innovation is the foundation on which all future forward ideas must be built. To underscore its impor-
tance, we are here together in the heart of innovation – Silicon Valley – the birthplace of the technological revolution that has forever changed
our world. This revolution is the externalization of an inner truth: that we are undeniably connected as one planet and one people. Therefore, it
is only fitting that we gather here to celebrate human inventiveness, knowing that there is infinite power in innovation and right action.
Dear Friends,
I stand humbly before you, connected to and cognizant of all who have dared to think differently, taken the other path and in doing so did noth-
ing short of change our world for the better. I offer you this challenge … to dare greatly! For in doing so, we truly become the people that we
have been waiting for.
As Mayor of the City of San Jose, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the third annual West
Coast Green conference and expo. San Jose is pleased to host the world’s largest conference

greening the event
The event business is second only to the construction industry in waste production. So you can
imagine the challenge to make a sizable event focused on the building industry such as ours, a carbon-neutral and zero-waste event.
For the past two years we have stepped up to this challenge with amazing results! West Coast Green 2006 and 2007 had a 96% Landfill
Diversion Rate! With the average conference producing 100–200 cubic yards of landfill waste in a matter of days, West Coast Green’s diver-
sion of 6 cubic yards of trash annually has event-goers across the country asking us how we did it.
