An issue of Consternation between those of the Jewish and Christian Faiths This indifference between the two is a long

standing problem, which found its Zenith in the Middle Ages. By the mid 1100s, people like Moses Maimondes contended that interpretation must adhere to pure reason, for the inner meaning of the scriptures to be understood by Aristotle. Thus by the year 1309, Jeremy Cohen asserts that a Franciscan in Paris, carries on the tradition statted by the likes of Andrew of St. Victor. Some also point out this Franciscan as Nichals of Lyre, who lamented the errors of Jeromes Vulgate translation, and the need to return to the Hebrew Veritas. His intent cuminated in a work known as the Postill. In this texts prololouge, he expreses his debt to both the Catholic Church Fathers and Rabbi Solom, no doubt refering to the glosses of Salomon ben Issac of Troyes (1040-1105) a.ka. Solomon Rashi. Since then, and more importantly since Vatican II , like a caducei, both parties found common and overlapping grounds just as their ancestors did and also counter points of contention such as those even within their own belief system. This was never more evident than the one between Cardinals, Walter Kasper and the late Avery Dulles. Rabbi Ruden presents the essentials of this issue which took place in 2002 regarding Kaspers address at Boston College: What we have in common is above all what Jews call the Hebrew Bible and us the Old Testament. We have in common our common father Abraham, and Moses, the Ten Commandments, the Patriarchs, Prophets .ect. Citing a need to have an open dialogue or missionary support measures towards the Jewish people, all the while A. Dulles responded: The Jews were instructed through the prophet Jeremiah, that the Old Covenant was obsolete. He continues, Christ we are told abolishes the first in order to establish the second. And that some Christians view the two convents as equal and parallel means to salvation. What does this mean for you and I, having surveyed numerous texts, digging and delving deeply that I may discover their hidden treasures, I come away a bit more enlightened and equally in a quandary. This dilemma is simply because, I, too, initially, succumb to only Christian writers for my theology and theological heritage, and in particular those who have the greatest acclaim to varied bezels of wisdom. Nevertheless, I remain keenly aware of the continual rift, which exists between the Jewish and Christian Communities. What I have come away with, and desire for you, the reader, is to appreciate what history has recorded for us, and the various antics and issues that have been deployed all in the name of God. These same assert, indeed, are of a commonality, which exists between both religious parties, which can be summarized in the words: I dont think you heard what I said. Thus, more discussion and opportunities for honest and open dialogues should be scheduled and hearty participation by all needs to

be made. For today, there is an opportunity to come and be open to some basic fundamentals of inherent beliefs and practices, which should be accepted and no longer be barriers to our understanding. Thus, it is also my contention that the historical eruptions are mere signs and symptoms of the variant interpretations of the Scriptures, which were the resultant of the methods deployed: that of typology, allegory, and the like, which was and remains the etiology.
