Goals
Exercise 1
Set up a small ofce phone system using analog phones, ATAs and an Asterisk server on a LAN
Add users and extensions to the Asterisk server Congure the ATAs to register with the Asterisk server Test it out: Make calls, leave and check voicemail, have fun!
Exercise 2
Set up a extensions for users at a remote campus connected via WLAN
Users are moving to different buildings at a University. These are all connected up by a WLAN. Set up an access point to allow the phone/ATA to register to the Asterisk server over the wireless network.
What mode(client/AP/bridge) would be best to do this with ? Should you NAT ?
Admin Login
set to 5060
Your extension
Set to 60 just to start, then change to something more like 600 once youve veried things are up and running
Check Registration
Registration State should now be Online
If you pick up the phone now, you should hear a dial tone. This will sound like a continuous hum rather than an alternating tone. Go back to the Asterisk Server Status page and dial an extension that is marked as Free
Exercise 2
Suppose now that have a University campus where the buildings are connected to each other via WLAN. We now want to provide access to the Asterisk server to those buildings using wireless. Congure a Ubiquiti AP to connect to the wireless school AP so that it allows the ATA to talk to the Asterisk server without NAT-ing. Power off the ATA Plug the ATA into the Data port of the AP client and power it back on. It should re-register with the Asterisk Server.
