Is The Quran A Book Of Science

"Verily, in the heavens and the earth are signs for those who believe." (Quran 45:3).

SCIENTISTS REMARKS, RE: SCIENTIFIC ACCURACIES IN THE QURAN... "From my studies and from what I have learned throughout this conference, I believe that everything that has been recorded in the Quran 1400 years ago must be the truth, that can be proved by the scientific means." Professor Tagata Tagasone, formerly Head of Anatomy and Embryology Dept, University of Shiang Mai, Thailand. Now Dean of College of Medicine at the University. -----------------"I am impressed that how remarkably some of the ancient writings seem to correspond to modern and recent Astronomy. There may well have to be something beyond what we understand as ordinary human experience to account for the writings that we have seen." Professor Armstrong, Scientist working at NASA. ------------------"It is difficult to imagine that this type of knowledge was existing at that time, around 1400 years back. May be some of the things they have simple idea about, but to describe those things in great detail is very difficult. So, this is definitely not a simple human knowledge." Professor Dorja Rao. ------------------SOME SCIENTIFIC EXAMPLES... ON MOUNTAINS... Professor Emeritus Frank Press, the Science Advisor to former US President Jimmy Carter, and President of the National Academy of Sciences for 12 years at Washington, DC. In his book, Earth, he says that mountains have underlying roots. 1 These roots can reach several times their elevations above the surface of the ground.2 So the most suitable word to describe mountains on the basis of this information is the word Peg? The history of science tells us that the theory of mountains having deep roots was introduced only in the latter half of the nineteenth century.3

The Quran has stated,

"Have We not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs" (Quran, 78:6-7) ------------------Mountains also play an important role in stabilizing the crust of the earth.4 They hinder the shaking of the earth. God has said in the Quran: "And He has set firm mountains in the earth so that it would not shake with you..." (Quran, 16:15) Likewise, the modern theory of plate tectonics holds that mountains work as stabilizers for the earth. This knowledge about the role of mountains as stabilizers for the earth has just begun to be understood in the framework of plate tectonics since the late 1960.5 Could anyone during the time of the Prophet Muhammad imagine that the solid massive mountain which he sees before him actually extends deep into the earth and has a root, as scientists assert? However, modern geology has confirmed the truth of the Quranic verses. ------------------The bee assimilates juices of various kinds of flowers/fruit and forms within its body the honey. It then stores this in cells of wax. Only a couple of centuries ago man came to know that honey comes from the belly of the bee. This fact was mentioned in the Quran 1,400 years ago in the following verse: "There issues From within their bodies A drink of varying colours, Wherein is healing for men." (Quraan 16:69) We are now aware that honey has a healing property and also a mild antiseptic property. The Russians used honey to cover their wounds in World War II. The wound would retain moisture and would leave very little scar tissue. Due to the density of honey, no fungus or bacteria would grow in the wound. A person suffering from an allergy of a particular plant may be given honey from that plant so that the

person develops resistance to that allergy. Honey is rich in fructose and vitamin K. Thus the knowledge contained in the Quraan regarding honey, its origin and properties, was far ahead of the time it was revealed. ------------------"Verily, in the heavens and the earth are signs for those who believe." (Quran 45:3). On the formation of stars and planets, the Quran points to a "Big Bang" or disintegration theory. It says, "the heavens and the Earth were joined together (as one unit of Creation) before God cloved it asunder." "And the heavens We did create with Our Hands, and We do cause it to expand." (Quran 51:47). Flatly stating what Einstein refused to believe at first, this verse anticipates Hubble's discovery of the expanding universe by approximately thirteen centuries. This verse makes a very clear point that the expansion is continuous (until the Day of Judgement, which is guaranteed by Allah). ------------------On the origin of life in water "...And We made every living thing from water..." (Quran 21:30). "And Allah has created every animal from water..." (Quran 24:45). ------------------"It is He who has caused to mix freely the two great bodies of water, this one pleasant-tasting and sweet and this one salty and bitter, and He made between them a barrier and a forbidding ban." (Quran 25:53). A description of the estuaries of large rivers is supplied by the verse above. These estuaries are relatively unusual because the outgoing fresh water of the river does not immediately mix with the salt water of the sea into which the river empties. Instead, the fresh water penetrates deep into the salt water body before any mixing occurs, far from the mouth of the river. Small rivers do not have this property. ------------------"The sun and the moon follow precise courses." (Quran 55:5). The meaning of this verse is obvious, and we have known the mathematical description of these "courses" since the western Kepler and Newton drew upon them several centuries ago.

"It is He Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon: all swim along, each in its rounded course." (Quran 21:33). This verse supplements the previous one: here, we learn that the sun and moon follow "rounded courses." It is significant that the Arabic word used here - "falak" does not mean circular course, just rounded. Kepler was the first European astronomer to realize that the paths of the planets and the moon are elliptical. It was not until later, though, that astronomers also realized that the sun has an orbit as well - around the center of the Milky Way. ------------------SOURCE & FORMATION OF IRON Professor Armstrong works at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA, where he is a well-known scientist. When asked how Iron was formed. he explained the energy required to form one atom of elemental iron was found to be about four times as much as the energy of the entire solar system. The total energy of the earth, the moon, the planet Mars or any other planet in our solar system is just not sufficient to form an atom of iron. Hence scientists deduce that iron is an extraterrestrial that was sent to earth and not formed therein. We read to him the Quranic verse saying: "And we sent down Iron, in which is Great might, as well as many benefits for mankind." (Quran 57:25). ------------------WAS THE UNIVERSE A CLOUD OF SMOKE The science of modern cosmology, observational and theoretical, clearly indicates that, at one point in time, the whole universe was nothing but a cloud of smoke?(i.e. an opaque highly dense and hot gaseous composition). This is one of the undisputed principles of standard modern cosmology. Scientists now can observe new stars forming out of the remnants of that. God has said in the Quran: "Then He turned to the heaven when it was smoke..." (Quran, 41:11). ------------------"Have not those who disbelieved known that the heavens and the earth were one connected entity, then We separated them?..." (Quran, 21:30) ------------------"The prophet said, If lewdness exists among people and then appears as a common and open practice, plagues and new diseases which did not exist before will spread among them." [Ibn Maajah, Al-Hakim] Contraception education has only led to increase in pregnancies and increase in sexual diseases' The Times, 5/6/2004. -------------------

"Thinking where Muhammad came from . . . I think it is almost impossible that he could have known about things like the common origin of the universe, because scientists have only found out within the last few years, with very complicated and advanced technological methods, that this is the case.?... Somebody who did not know something about nuclear physics fourteen hundred years ago could not, I think, be in a position to find out from his own mind, for instance, that the earth and the heavens had the same origin." Dr. Alfred Kroner is one of the world renowned geologists. He is Professor of Geology and the Chairman of the Department of Geology at the Institute of Geosciences, Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany.
