Had gone there last evening. First thing I observed was that everything was overpriced. A chaat item for Rs. 70!!?? Tried the Papdi Chaat. Decent - not bad; not great. Awesome badam milk though. Certainly one of the best I've had!! Would want to visit again & try out some of the other items on the menu to complete my review.

I bought Bikaji Moong Dal Snack from Edison, NJ Indian supermarket. To my worst surprise, it contained big pieces of salt (like soft stone). I accidently ate one big piece of salt and made me sick later and kept vomiting. I thought such big brand will have good quality control and now, I am afraid of any snack from India. Be careful everyone and check inside before you eat anything from Bikaji.

BIKANER

Lying in the north of the desert state, the city is dotted

with scores of sand dunes. Bikaner retains the medievalgrandeur that permeates the city's lifestyle. More readily called the camel country, the city is distinguished for the best riding camels in the world and hence boasts of having one of the largest Cam el research and breeading farm in the world. The ship of the desert is an inseparable part of life here. A camel besides doing transportation duties, also works on wells. These are built on high plinths with slender minarets on each of the four corners and can be noticed even from a distance. The history of Bikaner dates back to 1488 when a Rathore prince, Rao Bikajifounded his kingdom. Bikaji was one the five sons of Rao Jodhaji the illustrious founder of Jodhpur. But Rao Bikaji was the most adventurous of them. It is said that an insensitive remark from his father about his whispering in the Durbar provoked Bikaji to set up his own kingdom towards the north of Jodhpur. The barren wilderness called Jangladesh became his focus point and he transformed it to an impressive city. He accomplished his task with 100 cavalry horses and 500 soldiers, and established his kingdom on 84 villages abandoned by the 'Shankhlas'. When Bikaji died in 1504 his rule had extended to over 3000 villages.

Reviews (1) Ratings (195) Write a Review Nivedita Onir 18th Nov, 2009 Bikaji has been a name to reckon with in the Indian packaged food industry since long now, and it was only fitting that they came up with an eatery sooner rather than later. Chaat items like pani puri, dahi puri etc. have already becomes quite famous in this area, especially with the proliferation of call centres in the vicinity, lots of young people come here for a chatpataa bite or two. Dahi vadaas are good too, I don`t much care for the South Indian on offer. Jalebis are good as well, better than most I`ve had. Alas and alack, I wish they could preserve the same standards as far as service goes, that is sadly lacking.
