Summary of Facilities Plan Survey Results

INTRODUCTION The DC Public Library conducted an online survey to gather feedback from library users on the DC Public Library Services and Facilities Report, A Framework for Continuing Success. One hundred and tenlibrary users completed the survey, composed of five questions. Here is a summary of the results.

ONLINE SURVEY RESULTS 1. The Report offers six recommendations for the Mayor and City Council to consider. Please rank these recommendations in order of what's most important to you. Provide operating funds to protect the Districts investment in its new and existing buildings, and maintain no less than current levels of service for the neighborhood libraries (six days a week) and for the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (seven days a week).

Use the same criteria for evaluating all potential DC Public Library locations, whether co-located with public or private partners or in free-standing facilities. These criteria include cost analyses that factors in both initial construction and ongoing operating costs.

As the Report states, library services have improved across the District since 2006 - an increase in computers from 100 to more than 700; 13 of 24 neighborhood libraries replaced or renovated by the end of 2011; and maintenance improvements at all locations including the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.
