9 month update!
Nine months does not seem like a long time to me anymore. Yes, it is enough time for two microscopic cells to unite, multiply and become a squawking, pooping infant, but it is also just a blink of an eye. In this time, I have measured hundreds of bellies and prayed for each mothers health and salvation. Ive delivered many of those little ones, blessed to hear their first cries. I have even cried with those whose hopes were dashed when a child died prematurely and prayed for others to conceive. It has been a blessed time. But that only describes what I have been doing. This ministry is so much more than prenatals and births! In this same time, thousands have been treated by volunteers and staff at the clinic, dozens of pastors have been taught, the new clinic building has progressed steadily and many new missionaries have joined the staff. It has been an exciting time of change for us all. What is more, Sudan has experienced historic changes. A country haunted by decades of war and divided by social and religious beliefs, was finally able to vote democratically. People, thrilled to have their voices heard for the first time, traveled far and wide to cast their vote. They overwhelmingly chose for separation; Africas largest country will soon split into two. Pray for this nation! Pray for this ministry! Pray for Gods Spirit to rule and reign in this land! May we not grow weary in doing good and may all who hear, understand and believe! Pray for my Bible study time to be protected. Southern Sudan is a new country, itll be official in June! Praise God for continued peace! Also, the darkness has passed, but Im still feeling conflicted. Pray as the Lord leads. Relationships are improving, but please keep praying. Weve had constant change in Sudanese staff, pray we find suitable replacements and do not grow weary in training and retraining them. I will be taking my next break in Europe. Would you believe its cheaper than staying in Kenya! Plus, Ill get to see family --even meeting my newest nephew. Yeah!

Do you sing?
In the book of Acts, two itinerate evangelists-- Paul and Silas-- do something very unusual when faced with troubles. In chapter 16 while preaching, Paul cast a demon out of a slave girl who had the spirit of prophesy, infuriating her owners (vs 16-18). They retaliated by getting them beaten, arrested and chained to a cell wall (vs 19-24). Now thats what I call a tough day in ministry! I dont know about you, but if I were in their shoes, I think I would have felt sorry for myself. I probably would have bemoaned my fate and cried myself to sleep. Who knows, I may have even questioned God and demanded to know why! Im not proud of this... Im just being honest. What about you? When faced with unjust beatings and dark prisons, how do you respond? The Bible tells us that Paul and Silas didnt cry or bemoan their fate. They did something much less predictable; they worshipped and prayed. In Acts 16:25 we read: About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Do you get that? In their darkest hour, they sang and prayed for all the world to see. They sang and God moved! We are told that when they sang, the earth shook, the foundation crumbled, the cell doors flew open and their chains were loosened (vs 26). Imagine that! As a result of worshipping in dark times, Paul and Silas were set free -- literally. They were set free from their physical chains but also from any spiritual and emotional chains, too. If you read on, youll see how this act of joy brought many to salvation (vs 27-34). Lets remember this example and praise God in the midsts of trials. Lets sing hymns when what we really want to do is cry. Lets pray and worship instead... and watch what God will do!
