A Man Greatly Beloved of God!

Dr. T. SATYA RAO
A message came to Daniel from heaven that
God loves him very much. Thou art greatly
beloved (Daniel 9: 23). God sent this message
through His angel Gabriel and the message is
repeated in Daniel 10: 11, O Daniel, a man
greatly beloved. God does not give this honour
to all people. God weighs a mans actions and
decides how to treat him (1 Sam. 2: 3). In
Revelation chapters 2 & 3, we read how God
loves and exalts some people and the same weight
is not given to everyone. He offers hidden
manna, a white stone and a new name only to
His beloved ones and not to all Christians (Rev.
2: 17). Similarly, He promises to give the morning

star (Rev. 2: 28) and an invitation to sit on His

Throne (Rev. 3: 21) to the deserving ones. This
shows God selects people according to their
merit. The awards and positions He offered in
Revelation 2 & 3 are only for the overcomers.
What was the merit that God saw in Daniel?
Daniel went to Babylon in his low estate as a
captive in the hands of enemies. He was a young
boy then. He was unaware of what struggles and
troubles that he should face in the enemies land.
At that time, he received a golden opportunity to
be selected for the kings royal court, as one of
his councellors. For enhancement of his physical
stature, he was offered food and wine from kings

WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE

own kitchen. Daniel refused it. He believed it

would make him defiled before his God. Daniel
made up his mind not to eat the food and wine
given to him by the king. But Daniel purposed in
his heart that he would not defile himself with the
portion of the kings meat, nor with the wine which
he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of
the eunuchs that he might not defile himself (Daniel
1: 8). It was a risky decision. The king might order
for his death, if he comes to know that Daniel is
identifying the kings food as the food of
defilement. Daniel knew his God and wanted to
live before Him undefiled.
This is exactly what the Lord Jesus Christ
wants us to be. He warns that the children of God
should not be the partakers in the sins of this world
which will make them defiled before God. For
out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders,
adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness,
blasphemies: These are the things which defile a
man... (Matt. 15: 19, 20). Our hearts must be
shown to God that we are willing to be under the
control of the Spirit and not the flesh. Know ye
not that ye are the temple of God, and that the
Spirit of God dwelleth in you? (1 Cor. 3: 16).
We should not grieve the Spirit of God by defiling
ourselves with a worldly lustful life. Daniel was
sincere before the God in these matters.
Daniel came to the highest position as a
President, under the king in the kingdom of
Babylon. He was the chief officer over all the kings
matters. He had a great responsibility to serve
the king and look after his interests as a top most

June, 2011

man next to the king himself. However, Daniel

preferred to continually serve his God day or night
and pray to Him always. The king himself
witnessed about this. When Daniel was in the den
of lions the king says, Thy God whom thou
servest continually, he will deliver thee (Dan
6: 16). Yes, God delivered him. The king again
says, And when he came to the den, he cried
with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king
spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of
the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest
continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
(Daniel 6: 20). The children of God, the bornagain Christians are always the servants of the
Lord Jesus Christ, in whatever occupation God
might place them. They have to continually serve
Him as His witnesses, as His co-workers and do
His will. God will be with them. God has angels
but He prefers sinners saved by His grace to be
His co-workers. If a believer does not understand
this, and obey God, he cannot become Gods
beloved.
Daniel never stopped his prayers before
God when he was threatened with death for the
same. The kings decree came before him that no
one should pray to his God for one month save
only the king. Disobedience to this will be a death
penalty by being thrown into the den of lions.
Daniel knew this matter but never feared the king
or the lions to stop his prayers before his God
and for thanking Him. Now when Daniel knew
that the writing was signed, he went into his house;
and his windows being open in his chamber

WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE

toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees

three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks
before his God, as he did aforetime (Daniel 6:
10).
The Lord Jesus Christ taught His people
to be praying people always. He Himself became
an example for His followers. The Bible tells about
it. And in the morning, rising up a great while
before day, he went out, and departed into a
solitary place, and there prayed (Mark 1: 35).
And it came to pass in those days, that he went
out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night
in prayer to God (Luke 6: 12). Paul exhorts the
people of God to pray without ceasing (1 Thess.
5: 17). Daniel was not praying for his own needs.
He was praying for Gods needs and for the needs
of Gods people. There is nothing wrong if we
pray for our own needs. However, God has His
needs and He invites us to share the burden
through our prayers for the extension of His
kingdom for the salvation of the souls and for the
establishment of His will on the earth. This is the
duty of every believer.
God is not the respecter of persons. He
loves us and desires to draw us nearer to Him.
We have to learn to seek His kingdom and
righteousness first. Each one of us can become
His beloved if we learn to obey Him and honour
Him.
Paul became a beloved apostle of the Lord
Jesus Christ. He was the hater of Jesus. In his
own words, he was a wretched man (Rom. 7:
24). He confessed that he was a chief of sinners

June, 2011

(1 Tim. 1: 15). He persecuted Christians; he even

consented for their slaughter. When he was going
to Damascus to persecute Christians, Jesus met
him on his way. Why? God knows the heart of
every man, God knows how much he will repent,
obey and server Him once he comes to know the
reality. God knows our hearts. He picks us up
for His glorious purpose, no matter how wretched
we were in our ignorance. Paul went on obeying
the Lord Jesus Christ upto his death. He had many
sufferings, many troublesome times, horrible
hazardous of life because he was the servant of
the Lord Jesus Christ. But Paul never gave up his
fight in serving the Lord Jesus Christ. He could
finally say, I have fought a good fight, I have
finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous
judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me
only, but unto all them also that love his appearing
(2 Tim. 4: 7,8). God also was with Paul in every
situation of his life.
Once, Paul was on his way to Rome as
commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ. That ship
was caught in the tempestuous wind and was in a
dangerous condition to break into pieces causing
death. The sailors and others stopped eating food
for 14 days until Paul told them these words, And
now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there
shall be no loss of any mans life among you, but
of the ship. For there stood by me this night the
angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought
before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all

WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE

them that sail with thee (Acts 27: 22 24). The

words of Paul, whose I am, and whom I serve,
are very important for every Christian to observe.
A born-again Christian will have always the
strength that he belongs to the living God and
nothing will happen to him without His permission,
because he serves God in all situations. God will
never fail to assure him that He is with him and
not to fear. Paul became humble servant of Jesus
from the time he met Jesus and that gave him great
power and assurance in this world that he belongs
to the most high God, who is the possessor of
heaven and earth. Everyone who serves the Lord
Jesus Christ on this earth need fear for nothing.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests
be made known unto God. And the peace of God,
which passeth all understanding, shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Phil
4:6,7).

June, 2011

A terrible time is coming like the ship was

shaken in the sea, the whole earth will be shaken:
The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is
clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard,
and shall be removed like a cottage; and the
transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and
it shall fall, and not rise again (Isa. 24: 19, 20).
At any such time, we too can say like Paul whose
I am and whom I serve and we can lift up our
heads. However, God has already promised
rapture for His people.
Dear Reader, do you know the end time is
just behind you? But the Lord whom you are
serving continually will shift you to your prepared
place ultimately (John 14: 1 3). And let us not
be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall
reap, if we faint not (Gal. 6: 9).
