Eventually, the skin and its support system are irritated and a variety of problems occur. Skin type, Dry, Oily or Combination skin is rarely at the root of skin problems. Skin type requires cleansing, rinsing, hydrating and masking . The following index of problems and product solutions will assist you in selecting products to add to your daily maintenance routine these products will address skin problems by calming, soothing, decongesting and desensitizing.

Ageing of the Skin

As we age the skin becomes naturally thinner and less elastic. As body functions slow down so too does the skins ability to replace old cells with new ones. Gravity takes its toll, lines start to show, jowls start to sag and skin tone flattens and dulls. Essentially, the skin is comprised of two layers, the epidermis, or the top layer the dermis, the supporting structure. The epidermis is the bodys first line of defense against the environment, disease, and ultra violet light. The top layer is comprised of dead cells that serve as the bodies barrier to ultraviolet rays, Pollution etc, and it is called the Stratum Corneum. New cells are produced every day at the base of the epidermis and over a period of a few weeks, the cells your body builds today will make their way to the surface of your skin. When they reach the surface, they die and are sloughed off to make room for new cells. The dermis made mostly of Collagen and Elastin supports the epidermis, stores water and protects your body from injury. This layer of skin is what is effected by the Elogen System and other Exfoliating, Moisturizing and Repairing Products in the Premiere Collection Skin Care Systems.

AGING SKIN
Aging skin is most dramatically affected by THE ELOGEN SYSTEM and by daily Masking, Hydrating, Moisturizing, Lubricating and Protecting. Declining estrogen levels coincide with a decrease in oil production This decline in estrogen is why many women experience dullness, dryness, thinning, and a seemingly overnight loss of elasticity.

Definition:

Excessive Dryness is caused by a lack of moisture in the support system of the skin. It is the inability of existing cells to retain moisture or produce moisture. The bonding system in the skin is compromised.

Dull Skin

Definition:

Dull refers to texture. The cell flattens as it looses hydration, the result is a flat surface which does not reflect light and the texture of the skin appears dull.

Flaky Skin
( A sigh of Sensitivity

Definition:

An irritation of the skins surface caused by such irritants as sunburn, wind burn, harsh abrasive cosmetic ingredients. These ingredients will cause the skin to swell and shed itself. This shedding is seen as flakiness and can occur on all skin types. Flaky Skin is not a signature of Dry Skin but a sign that the area is irritated, inflamed and sensitive.

Excessively Tight Skin

Definition:

Occurs when the skin cells are irritated enough to swell, becoming red and inflamed; the skin feels tight. Each skin defends itself from environmental attacks differently; all surface sensitivity manifests itself with at least one of these characteristics. (Redness, tight feeling with patches of inflammation and flakiness.

Note: Sensitivity is not a skin type, it is a characteristic.

Sensitivity can occur on all skin types. Look for a source of topical irritation. Soap and water are common irritants that can affect sensitivity, in addition a lack of water retention in the cell can create sensitivity.

An over-production of oil at any age is caused by an over stimulated oil gland. Hormone Therapy sun, improper diet and an improper and aggressive cleansing routine can aggravate and dry out skin and stimulate your oil glands.

Blemishes

A blemish is an infection below the surface of the skin. The cells in an attempt to protect the infection, develop a dome. The dome is a protection for the infected and inflamed area and is the only thing you see. If the dome is squeezed or dried out, the infection spreads and the dome reappears.

Rosecea
Often called Adult Acne It is very common among individuals in their thirties and forties and is some times mistaken as simple skin sensitivity. Typically, Rosacea is characterized by dilated blood vessels on the nose, cheeks, and chin causing a Rosy look to the face and little white bumps that look like cysts, which is why some people think it is Acne. Stress hormones, physical exertion, alcohol, caffeine, hot and cold beverages, blasts of heat and infections can cause Rosacea to flare up, but no one knows for sure what causes it, although it is most common in fair skinned people of Celtic origin.

Acne

While many of us assumed that one of the benefits of growing older would be growing out of acne, the sad truth is thats not always the case. Hormones as well as stress contribute to two of the more common forms of Systemic Acne Most simply Acne is a hair follicle or pore that has become clogged with sebum For your reference here are the kinds of Acne you may still encounter even as an adult.

This is an adolescent type of acne that can still flare up in your thirties and forties even if you never had an outbreak as a teenager.

Cosmetic Acne
