school counselor. Selection will be done based on your real

days
after SPM results are out. Forms are normally out in
February

 Merit Points (90% academic achievements and 10% co-
curriculum participation)
 Subjects taken in SPM/STPM matches the programme
applied for
 Subject Grades
 Choices of Programmes applied for

Getting into IPTA

Counting of Merit Points (SPM)

Merit Points : Academic Marks - obtained through the 5 main subjects and 3
other best subjects (90%) + Co Curriculum Marks
(10%)

Science Stream
5 Main Subjects – Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
and Biology / any other related subjects

Arts Stream
5 Main Subjects – BM, Mathematics, Sains, Sejarah and Pendidikan Islam /
Pengetahuan
Moral / Pendidikan Al-Quran dan As-Sunnah / Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah

1A = 18 marks. The mark goes down by 2 points for every gred increase.

Counting of Merit Points (STPM)

Sample Results
Pengajian Am = B+

Chemistry = A-

Academic Marks = (3.33 + 3.00+ 3.67+ 4.00)/4 x 90


= 14.00/4 x 90
= 78.75

Merit Points = Academic Marks (90%) + Co Curriculum Marks (10%)


= 78.75 + 9 (assuming you get 9% for co curriculum)
= 87.7

There are more than 500 colleges, 10 private


universities, 12 private university colleges and
4 foreign branch campuses

Make sure you choose an institution and


course which is approved by the Ministry of
Higher Education and accredited by LAN

Pursuing a Degree
