The Interim Rectors letter to the Trinitarians August 2011 Dear Friends in Christ, It is unusual for there to be a newsletter in the month of August but this is an exceptionally unusual year for the parish. Transition times are full of the unusual, with the arrival of an Interim Priest and new faces leading the parish as we move toward the calling of the next Rector for Trinity. As this newsletter goes to press the Search Team is hard at work doing its ministry of discerning the selection of the final candidates for the call of the Rector for Trinity in 2012 and beyond. This is an exciting time and this year we are jump starting the Financial Pledge Drive with the Kickoff event on September 9. Many more details concerning this exciting evening of food, friends, music and time with our Bishop will be coming your way shortly. As interim priest I love to feel the excitement of the next steps in your faith journey as the People of God in the Place. It was just a few short months ago that I arrived and stood before you looking out at a group of strangers. From your point if view I was a stranger also, but now I can call many by name and have walked with you as you prepare for the rectorship of your next priest. It is time for me to say good-bye, which we will do on August 21 at both the 8 and 10am worship times. This Sunday will feature the celebration of the liturgy of Ending the Pastoral Relationship as we conclude our time of transition. I want to express my heart felt thank you to all that have been part of this time of change and reflection. So many have made my work here very rewarding and rich with great memories. I take small snapshots of the Party of Parties on Shrove Tuesday; the joy of standing before the choir each Sunday as they lifted the beautiful music to the rafters; the gift of working with the staff, Huberta, Paul, Jodi and others that have made the ordinary special. Thanks to each one for your kind words as you left our worship each Sunday and the Spirit of the Living God that you share not only in the buildings of Trinity Parish but out into the wider world. My prayers will be with you as I watch from my new interim position up I-5 in the state of Washington. You may not see it but I will be smiling the first Sunday your new priest breaks bread with you and begins to open afresh the Word of God. Peace John Goddard Interim Rector for a few more weeks
Gods extravagance
I am thinking of extravagant gifts I have received. When I was eight, it was a horseLucky, a baldfaced swaybacked strawberry roan mare, my nonjudgmental companion for so many years. When I was twelve it was a new Schwinn bike under the Christmas tree. When I was eighteen, it was a tiny matchbox with a little dried flower and a poem inside from someone I admired; when I was twentythree, it was a wedding gift of a patchwork quilt made out of flour sacks by the sisters of the man who watched over me and kept me safe; when I was thirty-two and had difficulties with my son, it was a long hug from a fellow teacher who knew us both, who simply said, Just cuz and no more. And with my partner, its a loving touch on the cheek, given at the right time, no words spoken. Its being forgiven despite the odds. Today, on a Trinity hike, it was reflecting on the parish family with which Ive been honoredthe one in Ashland and the crowd of saints in the many places Ive lived and had my being. At Eucharist, more than once, its the sensation of being physically touched by a gentle presence. I walk in the continual consciousness that there is no way I can repay the extravagant gifts I have received in my life. Its not about payback. Its about the cycle of grace, continuing...forever. And so it is with stewardship. We are given this world, this life, this beauty, loss, gain, family, loneliness and companionship, sickness and healthall Gods gifts in this too precious time we have. I realize none of it is really mine. And so when I pledge this fall, I hope to remember that. This is my church family. Nothing I have is really mine. And so I hope to richly give as I have richly received. Ann Magill

A Benediction offered by Rev. Bobbie Parini The Lord be with you in all the places where you will go. Go then: go where there is ignorance; go where there is need; go where there is danger; go where there is pain; go where there is narrowness; go where there is fear; Go in courage; go in doubt. Go in wisdom of knowing and the wisdom of not-knowing Go in strength, and in the strength of weakness. Go in the joy which overcomes sorrow, and in the love which casts our fear. Go and the blessing of God go with you. Amen.
VESTRY HIGHLIGHTS
July 20, 2011 After a detailed presentation by Ward Wilson, Vestry acted to accept the Year 2010 Audit of Financial Statements of Trinity Episcopal Church, including recommendations by the Audit Committee for refinement of some financial formats and procedures. Kudos were given to the Dick Cogswell, Ward Wilson and Donna Ritchie, members of the Audit Committee, for a fine job on this crucial aspect of church operations. Related to Trinity Pledge Drive 2012, Fr John announced the Stewardship Committee has been at work on exciting plans, including a September 9 allparish kick-off dinner with very special guest Bishop Michael Hanley, a brochure in the making, and acceptance by Roger Graves and Ann Magill as chairs of this years drive. Vestry is involved in work and leadership in this campaign. Father John announced that he has accepted a new position as interim priest. His final Sunday as celebrant and preacher at Trinity will be August 21. Mindy clarified that the scheduling of clergy once Fr John is gone and before the new rector arrives, is well in hand, with a number of interim interims available including Fathers Tom and Morgan as well as others in the community. Committee chairs are actively being sought for Outreach, Party of Parties, and Friends of Music, all crucial in fundraising for important Trinity programs. Phyllis Reynolds, Clerk of Vestry
