he 48th annual Luzerne County Fair will be in full bloom Sept. 7-11 at the fairgrounds on state Route 118 in Lehman Township. For $8, folks can ride all the rides they want, which are provided by S&S Amusements, and take in various entertainment, exhibits, contests, musical entertainment, horse shows and other attractions. The admission price also covers parking, unlike at some other venues and events.
Ages 2 and younger will be admitted free and senior citizens get in for just $4.50. Considering the low cost and high amount of entertainment possibilities, this is the event to which you will want to bring the whole family. Each year the county fair provides an inexpensive way to spend a few fun-filled summer days. County fairs are offered in just about every county in the country. If your county isnt hosting one, a neighboring county probably is. Although each fair is as different as the county hosting it, the one thing they all have in common is fun. A good ole county fair is an allAmerican staple. Usually lasting for a little over a week, fairs are packed full of many different things the entire family can enjoy. Here are some tips to help you get the full enjoyment out of your visit! Step 1 First you can check online to see when and where the county fair is going to be. Often they have it posted along with a lineup of the different activities. Learn about the fair and all it offers before you go. You can get information about the fair from the Internet; most county fairs have their own Web sites. From this you can decide which day you want to attend based on the activities and special events offered on specific days. Step 2 If you are able to check the schedule, then you will want to go through and mark the different activities youd like to attend. Fairs are usually filled with entertaining performances as well as activities such as bull riding, horse shoes, contests for adults and children alike, demolition derbies and antique tractor pulls. Step 3 Stop by the exhibition section. In these areas there are usually all sorts of local talent on display. You can find anything from quilting and crafts to art exhibits and canning competitions. There are usually also vegetable competitions and livestock displays. Step 4 Dont forget a little extra spending money for the snack stands. There are usually all sorts of local vendors lined up to give you a sample of their cuisine. You can also stop by the cotton candy and candy apple stands for a little something to soothe your sweet tooth. Just dont eat too close to going on the rides. ... Step 5 Enjoy the rides. The kids and adults alike all love the rides with anything from traditional Ferris wheels to scramblers and kiddie rides. There are many options available to make everyone happy. Often fairs have kids days when you can pay one price and kids receive a wrist band and unlimited rides for the entire day! Musical entertainment is a highlight of the Luzerne County Fair, with different performers each day in the fairs amphitheater. This fair really tries to bring in quality entertainment and its 100 percent included in the price, said Brenda Pugh, who is handling publicity for the fair. We try to bring different types of entertainment for different age groups during the fair.
Livestock displays at the Luzerne County Fair are a great way for families to learn about farm animals.

Tips and warnings A little extra planning will ensure that you see each exhibit, show or contest that is available. Be sure to check admission prices. Some fairs are free, and some charge for admission. Others charge admission only for certain events. Know ahead of time what youll be expected to pay for and take extra cash for the snacks. Sometimes season passes are available where you pay one price to allow you entry throughout the week. This is good if there is more than one show on different nights that youd like to see.

he trusted staff of the Family Hearing Center at Zeigler and Asby Audiology has the experience to provide the information that you need to sort through all the confusing hearing aid claims and offers that you hear about or read about in the newspaper or on the internet. With over 40 years of experience providing all aspects of hearing care for infants, children, adults and seniors, we know that we can help you hear the best by listening to your needs. For your convenience, evening hours are available at either of our offices located in Kingston and Dallas.
While hearing loss can make a person feel closed off from the rest of the world, hearing aids can help open that world back up again. Research is all it takes to find a quality, affordable hearing aid that is right for you. Hearing loss not only affects the elderly, people of all ages can suffer hearing loss from a number of reasons ranging from noise exposure to personal injury. Since ninety percent of all hearing loss is permanent and can not be treated with medication of surgery, the use of properly fit hearing aids is the best option for correcting a hearing problem and maintaining an active lifestyle. Talk to an expert The first step in buying a hearing aid is getting a hearing examination from an expert. You should undergo a complete evaluation of your hearing ability by a licensed audiologist to determine the causes, symptoms and severity of your hearing loss. The first step to better hearing is an evaluation by an audiologist, says Dr. Jim Zeigler Au.D. CCC/A, an audiologist with Asby and Zeigler Audiology with offices located in Kingston and Dal-
James Zeigler, Au.D., rechecks Emmas hearing aids to make sure they are programmed properly for optimum speech and language development.
las. Audiologists have the education, clinical training and experience to evaluate all aspects of hearing loss. Audiologists hold a minimum of a masters degree in the hearing sciences, are educated in hearing and hearing aids, and perform all the necessary testing to evaluate hearing and balance disorders. Many audiologists have earned the clinical doctorate in audiology or Au.D degree. Audiologists are experts in all areas of hearing health (prevention, evaluation, management) as well as amplification, and function as your personal resource for complete hearing health care. Ask for the credentials of your hearing professional, even in your doctors office. Look for audiologists with AuD, PhD, MS or MA degrees and national certification through the American Academy of Audiology or the American Speech & Hearing Association. Sorting through the options There are many different types of hearing aids according to the American Academy of Audiology
website: ( www.audiology.org). Dr. Judith Johnston, Au.D., an audiologist with the Family Hearing Center recommends digital hearing aids which are separated into several types depending on the lifestyle of the person. Entrylevel digital hearing aids utilize digital circuitry and can be programmed to allow for specific fine-tuning of the hearing aids to the persons hearing loss. Advanced digital hearing aids include these features in addition to specialized features that are not available with the analog circuitry such as feedback cancellation, digital noise reduction and adaptive directional microphones. Digital hearing aids can now offer direct wireless connections to cell phones or the TV. According to Robert Asby MS CCC/A, an audiologist with over 45 years of experience, the type and size of your hearing aid depends on the severity and type of your hearing loss. Mild hearing loss may be served by a very small instrument that rests inside the ear canal or discretely behind the ear. Severe hearing loss
may require a slightly larger behind-the-ear style hearing aid. This device is large enough to contain the components and power to help those with a more severe hearing loss. Purchasing a hearing aid When all the possible causes of hearing loss have been evaluated and medical clearance has been obtained from a physician, the next step is to complete a hearing aid evaluation. Hearing aids are custom made and custom fit instruments. Mail order outfits are not able to make devices that custom fit a specific individual. The necessary follow-up for a good hearing aid fitting is not possible with a mail order or Internetbased hearing aid company. When searching for a hearing aid, Dr. Jill McClelland Au.D CCC/A, an audiologist with Family hearing Center, suggests you examine prices carefully. Hearing aid prices can very greatly from office to office. Family Hearing Center provides digital hearing aids ranging in price from $1,100 to $2,900 for each instrument. Cost varies based on
the type of hearing aid and you may be charged for a hearing aid trial fitting. This charge can also vary from office to office. Hard-ofhearing advocates recommend calling before a visit and getting a cost breakdown which would include the cost of the hearing aids, the examination, warranties and any costs associated with the hearing aid trial. All hearing aids in Pennsylvania are required to be fit on a 30-day trial basis The good news is that today more than ever there are so many different choices in hearing aids that can help a wide variety of hearing loss and help people perform better in quiet places and in noisy or difficult listening situations. If you want to hear better, Zeigler recommends checking with your family doctor first to make sure there are no medical issues, then undergoing a thorough audiologic evaluation by a licensed audiologist to determine the type and degree of hearing loss that you have. At this visit you can also discuss with your audiologist your lifestyle needs and which particular types of hearing aids would best fit not only your hearing loss but your lifestyle. HOW TO ...
In todays fast-paced society, its important to stay connected. Whether you use your cell phone to keep in contact with family, friends or business needs, having the correct phone for the job is important.
To many, texting is just as important - if not more important than voice. For parents texting is sometimes the easiest, if not the only way to get in touch with the kids. And in matters of the heart, text messaging has also played a role in how couples connect, flirt, fall in love and even, sadly, breakup. But no matter what youre using your smartphone for, AT&T has a few suggestions for making the most of it:
Wireless applications Commonly referred to as apps, these let you convert your phone into the tools you need them to be a video player, a music player, a gaming console, a navigation system, a constant link to your social networking sites and more. AT&T offers thousands of third-party applications that are easily accessible from the app store, and we give customers the flexibility to download virtually any application to their mobile device. Depending on what device you use, there may be other apps stores where you can browse for and identify the right apps for your personal life or your business. Global positioning systems Instead of buying a separate global positioning system device for your car, you can download GPS software into your handheld device. Most applications, such
as TeleNav let you get directions to your destination and map your route, while others are able to receive real-time traffic data to circumvent slowdowns. And some are geared toward more pleasure-oriented pursuits, such as using GPS data to map golf course greens and bunkers. Payment processing When on business travel or on a family vacation you dont want bills to pile up on your desk or in your mailbox. Stay on the good side of creditors with mobile bill payment applications that work with many popular financial institutions. Wi-Fi Dont forget most AT&T smartphones are Wi-Fi capable. AT&Ts Wi-Fi network includes more than 24,000 U.S. hotspots and more than 135,000 worldwide - like retail stores, restaurants and airports from coast-tocoast, allowing you to post those family vacation photos on Face-
book or keep up with whats going on at the office while waiting for your flight. Smart plans Again, whether traveling for business or pleasure, there are plenty of competitive calling and data plans out there, and reduced overseas calling rates for customers in Europe, Mexico or anywhere. AT&T has the best international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice service in more than 220 countries and data service in more than 200 countries. Plus, AT&T offers unlimited calling to any mobile number in the U.S and Rollover Minutes so that if you dont talk as much one month, AT&T lets you keep your unused minutes for next month. For more information about any of the above topics or any other questions, make sure to check out AT&Ts website at http://www.att.com.
Coverage not available in all areas. Applications may a separate subscription. Data rates and/or messaging rates may apply. AT&T Wi-Fi: Access includes AT&T Wi-Fi Basic. Wi-Fi enabled device required. Other restrictions apply. See www.attwifi.com for details and locations International rates apply outside the U.S., Puerto Rico, and U.S.V.I. Visit att.com/worldpackages to view rates and available discount plans. Rollover Minutes: Unused Anytime Mins expire after the 12th billing period. Night & Weekend & Mobile to Mobile mins do not roll over. Unlimited Calling to Any Mobile Number: Messaging Unlimited Plan required. Available on select AT&T Nation, FamilyTalk, & BusinessTalk plans. For domestic calling and messaging within the AT&T nationwide coverage area only. Calls to directory assistance, voicemail, pay-peruse, call routing, and forwarding numbers and calls to/or from numbers not in the wireless database we use, not included. Charges for third party messaging programs not included. Additional restrictions apply.

Generation Y ... Youre Not Too Young! When youre young, you rarely think about health procedures or surgery. But if you wear glasses or contacts, nows the time to think about laser vision correction surgery. Youre not too young, and with your active lifestyle, why settle for anything but perfect vision? * The iLASIK (IntraLase all laser LASIK) procedure is approved for patients 21 years and older and hundreds of patients in your age group are having LASIK every day. * Outcomes may vary. Ninety-eight percent of mildly to moderately nearsighted patients participating in the CustomVue Clinical Trials submitted to the FDA could see 20/20 or better one year after treatment. Generation X Your Wait Is Over! You grew up in what could easily be called the LASIK generation. Youve heard all the buzz, quite possibly youve been confused by it, and youve decided to wait. The iLASIK Procedure is the result of a decades worth of technical refinement; it combines all of the most advanced all-laser LASIK technology in one efficient LASIK procedure ... It simply doesnt get any better, so nows the time. To date over two million eyes have been treated with IntraLase.* * www.IntraLasefacts.com Baby Boomers Great Vision Never Gets Old! Although you may be considering LASIK, traditionally it corrects distance vision. However there is a procedure that can potentially eliminate your need for readers or bifocals. limited mobility post op. Today, Dr. Bucci performs these procedures in his private surgery center by removing your cataract with advanced technology called phacoemulsifi cation. All cataract surgeries performed by Dr. Bucci are completed with no needles, no stitches, no patches, and no pain. The in-
cision is self-sealing and patients can resume normal activities in one day. The cataract is extracted and an intraocular lens is implanted in less than six minutes in most cases when performed by Dr. Bucci. Dr. Bucci performs the entire procedure without touching any blood vessels of the eye, so it is not necessary to stop any blood thinners prior to surgery such as aspirin, Coumadin or Plavix. If cataract patients choose a multifocal lens implant for their surgery they will have a 98 percent chance of never using glasses for distance or near vision again. If you dont like the shape of your teeth, their contour can be changed for a more pleasing appearance. If the color is too dark you can try professional bleaching, either take home trays or in-office bleaching like ZoomII. Chips, cracks, or fractures can be repaired with bonding and veneers that can cover a multitude of problems like gaps, color, stain, poor shape, or teeth that are out of alignment. Tooth colored materials are
used to repair decay and sealants help protect the teeth. Less visible and invisible braces can help make treatment possible for those individuals who have important cosmetic concerns. The braces may be placed on the back side of the teeth so they are not visible. In some cases, treatment may be done without using braces at all-by using a series of clear plastic removable mouthpieces like Aligners. More studies are needed, but some researchers suspect that bacteria and inflammation linked to periodontitis play a role in
some systemic diseases or conditions. Likewise, diseases such as diabetes, blood cell disorders, HIV infections and AIDS can lower bodys resistance to infection, making periodontal diseases more severe. Several studies link chronic inflammation from periodontitis with the development of cardiovascular problems. Some evidence suggests oral bacteria may be linked to heart disease, artery blockages and stroke. People with diabetes often have periodontal disease. And diabetics are more likely
to develop and have more severe periodontitis than non-diabetics. Some studies suggest periodontitis can make it more difficult for diabetics to control their blood sugar. Although periodontitis may contribute to these health conditions, its important to understand that just because two conditions occur at the same time doesnt necessarily mean one condition causes the other. What we do know is that people with diabetes and people who smoke are at an increased risk for developing periodontal disease. Thats why researchers are working hard, examining what
happens when periodontitis is treated in individuals with these various health problems. Now there are even more reasons than ever to heed the advice of ur dentist to brush and floss, avoid too many snacks and see your dentist regularly. Take good care of your teeth and gums isnt about preventing cavities or bad breath. The mouth is the window into the health of your body. It can show signs of nutritional deficiencies or general infection. It is filled with countless bacteria, some linked to tooth decay and periodontal disease.

HOW TO ...
ts a lazy Saturday afternoon in late fall. Youre ready to settle in for a day of college football action when youre not-so-gently reminded that the leaves need to be picked up. Ouch! If you owned a leaf blower, you could be back on the couch by halftime. But there are some things to consider before running to the store.
HOW TO ...
Before purchasing a blower, evaluate your needs, says Larry Hilbert of Hilberts Welding & Equipment in Dallas. What do you plan to do with the blower and how much area are you planning to blow? There are three basic types of leaf blowers: walk-behind, backpack and handheld. Walk-behind blowers If you need maximum blowing power, look for a walk-behind, wheeled unit. It is ideal not only for leaf blowing, but also for moving stubborn debris, removing standing water, preparing asphalt for resurfacing or for any other job that requires gale-force winds. A good walk-behind blower can cost $699 to $1,199, depending on its features and horsepower rating. For instance, a blower with a side discharge system, which allows the operator to change air direction without tools and eliminates blowback, will cost more than a blower without this system. In choosing a wheeled blower, look for things like pneumatic tires, for ease of movement, and a split discharge opening, which eliminates blowback, Hilbert said. Look for the split discharge deflector. And dont be fooled by movable nozzles. Theyre not as effective in eliminating blowback.
Before purchasing a blower, Larry Hilbert of Hilberts Welding & Equipment in Dallas recommends evaluating your needs. What you plan to do with the blower and how much area you are planning to blow are important factors to take into consideration.
Most wheeled blowers are equipped with a powerful 4-cycle engine. The torque range is much wider than a standard 2-cycle engine, but its much heavier, too. A front swivel wheel can make handling a large wheeled blower a lot easier. Another convenient feature to look for is a hose and bag attachment, which quickly lets you convert the blower to a vacuum and makes bagging debris simpler. Backpack blowers Backpack blowers are popular among landscapers because of their impressive power-to-weight ratio. If you spend more than 30 to 40 minutes with a handheld blower, your wrist tends to fatigue and youll find yourself needing to take a break, Hilbert
said. So, if the job takes you more than that, you should consider a backpack blower. Powered by a 2- to 4-cycle engine, backpack blowers can produce winds greater than 200 miles per hour. Because of the volume and velocity of air being discharged, a backpack blower can reduce your cleanup time by as much as 50 percent, Hilbert said. Most jobs that require a backpack blower tend to be bigger jobs, so be sure its comfortable. Look for a blower with back padding and adjustable straps that allow you to fit it to your body. Handheld blower For those smaller jobs around the house, like blowing leaves off the patio or grass clippings from
the driveway, a handheld blower is perfect. A handheld blower can come in handy in ways that youve never imagined. Ive even taken it up on the roof to clear my gutters of debris, Hilbert said. Handhelds are great for most homeowners with basic needs, like blowing grass after they cut the lawn and for small leaf jobs as well as cleaning your auto, decks and driveways of snow, said Jon Paluch, who owns and operates a lawn service. A vacuum attachment is often an option. If youre going to use the vacuum feature, Paluch recommends spending a few minutes every day vacuuming leaves. It seems to take a long time to suck up leaves, he said. So, I only recommend the vacuum to people with small leaf jobs or for
people who go out every day or so to clean up small amounts of leaves. And the leaves must be dry. Wet leaves rarely get sucked up. You can usually find 2-cycle handheld blowers for under $159. The higher-end, more powerful handhelds can cost $200 or more. Some manufacturers offer a choice of gas- or electric-powered blowers. Which one you opt for depends largely on how mobile you need to be while using the blower. Electric blowers are traditionally lighter, quieter and vibrate less than gas units. But advancements in technology continue to make this less of an issue. Gas blowers allow you more freedom to roam without worrying about a cord becoming tangled around your legs.

hen it comes to selecting a personal injury attorney, this is what every victim needs to know. First, it is vitally important that you speak to a personal injury attorney before you speak with an insurance adjuster. But, you also need to know where to find a good personal injury lawyer (and where you should avoid). Lastly, once you have selected your personal injury lawyer, you need to be prepared to discuss payment for the lawyers services.
HOW TO ...
Be Careful Of Unscrupulous Insurance Adjusters Expect an insurance adjuster to contact you very soon after you are involved in an accident. He will likely appear to be very friendly and state that he merely "wants to get some information" or wants to "take care of you." In reality, you need to be aware that the adjuster is working for the insurance company and his sole responsibility is to see that the company settles all personal injury claims for the least possible amount. So, if you attempt to settle your claim with the insurance adjuster on your own, you can expect some common insurance tactics including: 1. You will be required to submit to multiple examinations by the insurance companys choice of doctors 2. You will be required to run around and get multiple estimates for damages 3. You will be asked to give a written or recorded statement. All of these tactics are designed to wear you down and get you to settle the claim and go away. Worse, all insurance adjusters know that many personal injuries do not manifest until months after the accident. If you give a statement early on, you may omit certain injuries. As a result, the insurance company has you "locked in." Contact An Injury Attorney Early After You Are Injured You can bet the defendant and his insurance company are workPAGE 20
ability to take your case to trial if it became necessary. Attorneys Fees In A Personal Injury Lawsuit One of the most common questions asked by victims is how they will pay the attorney for services rendered. In the United States, most personal injury attorneys work on a contingency fee basis. This means that the attorney invests his time and the costs of litigation in exchange for a percentage of the recovery if the case is settled or won at trial. This arrangement allows every American to have access to the best legal talent available. However, the attorney will only offer to take the case on a contingency fee if he or she believes that the case has a good potential for economic recovery. Where the outcome is less than certain, the attorney might offer to take the case on a modified contingency fee basis. In this instance, the client will invest the costs of litigation (or some percentage of the costs). If the case is successful, the client will receive the costs back and the attorney will take a percentage of the proceeds as a fee. Under this arrangement, the attorneys percentage should be smaller because he has not assumed all of the risk.
If your case has merit, a reputable personal injury attorney will likely take the case on a contingency fee basis.

aced with an unplanned pregnancy? Scared? Embarrassed? Alone? Dealing with an unplanned pregnancy can be a very confusing time bringing with it many emotions and questions. It is normal for a pregnant woman to feel anxious and experience self doubt. Hormonal changes which occur during early pregnancy contribute to the mothers emotional stress. Sometimes difficult circumstances surrounding pregnancy can seem insurmountable. These difficulties can be overcome with time, support and understanding.
Many women have discovered motherhood to be one of the most fulfilling experiences of their lives. The best way to cope with unplanned pregnancy is: 1. Meet with a counselor at the nearest Crisis Pregnancy Center 2. Dont make any hasty decisions. Dont let others make a decision for you. 3. Get the facts on the development of your unborn baby. 4. Locate organizations that will support your decision. Perhaps getting pregnant was unplanned, but a hasty decision is never a solution. You know that the best solution will respect your rights and the rights of the new life growing within you. There are caring people who can help you understand your choices, and you decide what best works for you. They offer friendship, understanding and complete confidentiality. However, you do have options. Your alternatives would be: Allow the baby to be born Choosing single parenthood or marriage Adoption Terminate the pregnancy The birth of a baby will change your life for the better. Just

knowing that you allowed the baby to live will never give you a lifetime of regret. Circumstances that you are faced with now could change. Our center after 24 years has never had a mother regret that she allowed her baby to live. Placing your baby into the hands of a couple who will never have children is a very loving sacrifice. Perhaps at this time in life you are unable to provide for your child, but you will always be the babys mother. Millions of couples are waiting to adopt children into good homes with loving parents. Once a babys life is terminated this life can never be replaced. It may seem like a quick solution for your problem, but you will soon realize that your baby will never have another chance at life. Whether you decide to parent or make an adoption plan, it is important for you to care for your unborn child. Visit Pro Life Center of Wilkes-
Barre to learn more. At The Pro Life Center, we are here to help you where help is needed most with an untimely pregnancy. And remember that we have professionals ready to talk to you about your situation, as you decide what is best for you and your baby. Single parenting Single parenting is a real challenge and a very difficult one. Maturity, responsibility and financial stability play an important role in considering the choice in being a single parent. Being able to look to the future and plan for a secure future for yourself and the baby is extremely important in making this decision. A home life for the baby with a mother and father is the most stable situation. Marriage Well-meaning people may try to push you into marriage. But marriage is intended to be forever, especially when it involves children. Getting married because you are pregnant is a poor basis for
building a loving family. Marriage failures are high for those who marry under such pressures. You should be the one to decide what is right for your life and for the life of the child. Marriage is a serious step to a committed relationship. Adoption Considering adoption means that you are concerned about being a good mother wise enough to realize that you might not be ready to raise a child at this time in your life. You may be concerned with what your family and friends will think of your decision, but the important thing is what you think. An adoption decision can be made any time during pregnancy or even after the baby is born. Adoption agencies have long lists of qualified couples who are unable to have children and are ready to love and raise a child. You can help choose the adoptive parents for your child, as adoption plans can be developed that allow you to be as involved as you would like to be, both before
and after your childs birth. Through the counseling services that are available to you, they will enable you to begin to explore your personal needs, concerns and issues surrounding your pregnancy. Whatever you decide, we believe it is important that you make an informed decision and that you feel comfortable and confident with your decision. We are here to support you through the many emotions you may experience through this difficult time. The Pro Life Center can also provide you with information regarding adoption. Pro-Life Center services include: Information on pregnancy and abortion Referrals for all pregnancy related concerns Education on fetal development Post-abortion healing Maternity clothes, baby clothes and supplies Counseling and education on crisis pregnancy Prenatal care education You have major decisions to make. electing a reliable, clinically effective rehabilitation team is crucial to achieving goal-oriented results. Your choice will likely be the significant factor in determining your return to a meaningful lifestyle. So while location is always important in determining where you would like to go, there are other factors to consider as well. Rehabilitation is an important part of the recovery process following an illness, injury or operation.

The combined efforts of physical, occupational and speech therapies with rehabilitative nursing, social services, dietary services and sound medical direction provide the necessary components and support for successful rehabilitation. Planning makes a difference Physical therapy is designed to meet the needs of those patients who have lost functional independence resulting from injury or illness. This therapy helps patients regain strength and balance, mobility and walking skills, and to recover from painful injuries. Occupational therapy provides therapeutic activities intended to help patients achieve the highest levels of independence in daily life. It teaches self-care skills, including eating, dressing, grooming, mobility from a bed to wheelchair, toilet training and bathing. This type of therapy also aids in easing emotional and social adjustment. Speech therapy is geared specifically for people with speech, language, swallowing or hearing disorders. This therapy teaches people to speak more clearly, express ideas, understand what is being said, swallow without difficulty and use hearing aids effectively. Selection criteria The factors you may want to consider are identified below, organized by categories. Be sure to observe, as well as to inquire, about these services when rating the various programs or facility. Choosing a washer Basically, there are two types of washing machines top loading and front loading. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Front loaders use less water and electricity, but usually cost more. But dont let that be a deterent, said James Broda, owner of Rebennacks Appliances in Kingston. What kind of price tag can you put on an item that will pay for itself? Top loaders use more water and more electricity, but for some people, its the only way to go. People who have back problems cant use the front loaders and see the top loader as the only possible choice, Broda said. Typically for a large family, front loaders will save more money because of the number of loads theyll do, he added. Apartment residents and single people will do less laundry, so the top loader is your normal choice. Capacity is a major consideration when selecting a washing machine. Broda advises customers to base this decision on the number of people in the household and the amount of wash that will be done. Some other things to consider are price and efficiency. For dryers, consumers should also pay attention to door size, what sensors are used to monitor moisture levels and temperatures and the interior capacity.
James Broda, owner of Rebennacks showcasing his vast selection of laundry products.
Selecting dryers Dryers come in sizes ranging from 5- to 7-cubic-foot capacity. Although dryers are huge users of energy, new models are now available that have specialized options for drying clothing. The law states that a dryer must have at least one automatic cycle. However, you can opt for a dryer that has a cool-down cycle, a moisture sensor that determines when to shut down, and a damp dry cycle. Dryers that have a tumble-free cycle for drying such things as sneakers or canvas shoes can be purchased. New technologies There are many advancements being made in dryer technology, which are helping to make them
more energy efficient. Following is a short laundry list of whats now available: Steam dryer technology: An important development in washer/dryer options is the introduction of steam washers. Steam is a proven, chemicalfree method for cleaning, sanitizing, deodorizing and dewrinkling and its part of many peoples daily routines, such as cleaning carpets or ironing clothes. Now you can reap the benefits in the laundry room with the Whirlpool Duet Steam washers and dryers and the Cabrio Steam dryer. Skip pretreating the most common types of stains, like grass and grease, and leave the dirty work to special steamcleaning options. The dryer can also be used to
refresh a jacket or coat instead of rewashing it. You can even use it to sanitize in the washer or the dryer. Cabrio HE washers offer the largest capacity of all washers and feature an innovative wash plate instead of a traditional agitator, creating 4.6 cubic feet of cleaning space. Thats enough room to wash larger, fewer loads, so you save time and effort. Plus, you can clean bulky items like comforters and sleeping bags at home instead of the laundromat. Direct inject wash system: Before the main wash begins, detergent and water mix to form a concentrated solution that sprays directly onto clothes as the wash plate moves them. Detergent enzymes penetrate
deep into fabric fibers for clean results with virtually no pretreating. AccelerCare drying system uses built-in sensor strips and computer intelligence to know how fast the load is drying, how hot the air should be and when clothes are dry. It automatically stops the cycle to help prevent overdrying and shrinking. It also saves extra trips to the dryer to check progress. These simple guidelines can help you determine what works best for you. Consider all options when making this major purchase. Visit Jim or his experienced staff at 269 Wyoming Ave., Kingston. They look forward to assisting you with the correct washer or dryer for your home.

National trends have been clear: Surgeries are down in a reflection of the hit people have suffered in their discretionary spending. A pharmaceutical representative, who asked not to be identified, noted that sales of medical supplies used in the field was well down over previous years. A major change, according to Dr. Ira Krafchin of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons Limited,

bariatric surgery, a lap band, or even a rigorous exercise regimen, the reality for most is that skin does not simply slip back into its new place. You find people are happy that they have lost the weight, but horrified by how they look now that the weight is gone, Krafchin said. They come in looking for body contouring, which removes the excess skin. When the patient looks better, he or she also feels better, and that result still manages to bring obvious pleasure to Krafchin. He noted with satisfaction the
fact that the state mandates insurance coverage of breast reconstruction for women after mastectomies. The field also deals with medical reconstructions stemming from accidents, and paid for by insurance or workers compensation plans. Dealing with insurers is complicated, and practices have to be clear what is covered by an insurer and what is not. Some regional medical professionals only handle ear, nose and throat reconstructions, for example, to address specific medical problems, and Geisinger Health System also lists a cosmetic surgery program.

abinetry comprises a large percentage of a remodeling or new construction kitchen budget. Cabinetry also represents the most permanent piece of the kitchen puzzle. So, it pays to carefully consider the selection of cabinetry before you purchase.
HOW TO ...
Determine your budget There may be no more important facet to putting together a new kitchen than determining the amount youd like to spend on the project, as well as how you value the different components. For example, a typical kitchen with a slated material budget of $20,000 might be broken down as such: Cabinetry 40 percent, Countertops 25 percent, appliances 15 percent and 20 percent comprised of fixtures, flooring, and wall dcor. Regardless, creating a clear budget that you are comfortable with should be the first step. Talk to a Pro Now that youve considered the budget, get out and shop. Skip the discount centers and go to a kitchen design showroom, and be prepared to sit down with a designer and discuss your needs. At this point it is essential that you share with the design professionals your budget; it allows them to direct you toward the cabinetry that will best fit your needs. Get the Facts The truth is that there is a very wide selection of cabinetry makers, styles, and construction types in the market. A design center that features a range of manufacturers will best be able to tailor the cabinetry to your needs. There are many reasons that a

given cabinet costs X. The way the cabinet box is built, and of what material plywood or particleboard is one aspect. Also, there are differences in the mechanical components of drawers and accessories. However, the biggest cost variable of the cabinetry is primarily driven by the look of the doors and drawers. Elaborate designs and specialty finishes can drastically impact the cost. By working with a design professional, you will discover how these features can be selected to give the ideal balance between style, function, and durability.
Secure your Investment An often undervalued part of obtaining a new kitchen is the installation. A proper installation assures that the cabinetry, countertops, and sundries you purchase will look and perform the best for many years. According to Robert Nause, owner of Top Value Kitchens, It is disheartening to see a customer select and purchase beautiful cabinetry and then choose to have them installed by someone without the necessary carpentry kills and knowledge. Our carpentry team always performs an excellent installation, whether stock or fully custom cabinets are selected.

here is no better time than now to join a Credit Union such as UFCW Federal Credit Union. Credit Unions are not-for-profit financial institutions that operate with its members best interests in mind. In fact, Credit Union members are the shareholders and part owners. Credit Unions exist solely to provide members with a safe, convenient place to save and to obtain loans at reasonable rates, and to provide other needed services.
Credit Union philosophy. A Credit Unions policy-making Board of Directors, and some of its committees, are made up of individuals elected by the members. Virtually all of these volunteers are unpaid. In other words, as a shareholder in your Credit Union you have a say in how it is run. You are a member, not a depositor. Because of this, your Credit Unions sole commitment is to serving you and other members.

Since all Credit Unions are owned by the people who save and borrow there, there are no outside shareholders and no profits. Earnings are returned to the members in the form of LOWER rates on loans, HIGHER returns on savings, and overall BETTER service. A Credit Union is also volunteer driven. The active involvement of volunteers is the cornerstone of the
