NMA members may belong to company-based chapters, community-based chapters, or as part of the Individual Membership Program. Members can practice these acquired skills through various NMA projects. Learned techniques can be applied in the workplace to meet your company goals and objectives. NMA's founder, Charles Kettering, became a pioneer in human resource development when he introduced the idea of professional development for first line supervisors in Dayton in 1919. THE Leadership Development Association As a new NMA chapter, CELDA will also have the leadership responsibility of guiding and building a new association, through opportunities for personal development, professional development, community service, and networking.

Food
Opportunities to enhance educational growth in leadership and management areas through after-hour courses, lunch-time classes, and special programs are available. NMAs leadership series, Supervisory and Management Skills, is an initial program for management development. These 10 courses, taken in any order, will provide the the knowledge of practical experiences via written material, assignments, and classroom discussion. NMA publishes a broad variety of guidebooks, workshop materials, webinars, L.E.A.D leadership assessments, and best-practice summaries. There are also affiliations with other national organizations, like the University of Phoenix and the Certified Manager program from the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) at James Madison University. CELDA will offer professional development courses as preparation for the Certified Manager Program. Students receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from NMA courses, which can be applied toward a college degree. Successful course completions are recorded on the students transcript within NMAs home office.

Drive: Collect non-perishable food supplies for distribution to food banks/ shelters within the community. Speech Contest: A high school competition that increases the students communication skills and business sense. Contest: Junior high students research and write an essay on selected topics, to develop their awareness of the business world. Activities: Other charitable events include walk-a-thons, recycling efforts, reading-tutor programs at local schools, Salvation Army bell ringing, Adopt-A-Nursing-Home Resident, and many other activities.

Other

Scheduled dinner meetings allow members to meet and communicate across departments, organizations, and companies. The social atmosphere permits members to renew acquaintances, foster current relationships, and begin new ones. This informal communication channel forms a viable network. On several occasions during a meeting or another NMA-sponsored event, members have resolved work-related problems or shared similar experiences.

Leadership skills are also developed through community service activities. Members can participate by organizing service projects such as food drives, walks-a-thons, and school-theme activities. NMA members have participated in events that provided a solution to a need, thus developing goodwill within the business and community environment examples:
