Als schwebende Wohnfabrik haben die Architekten dieses
un­gewöhnliche Einfamilienhaus in Lancy, einem Vorort von
Genf, konzipiert. Der aufgeständerte Baukörper bildet das
schützende Dach für Terrasse und Stellplatz, die nahtlos in den
verwilderten Garten übergehen. Mit seinem Sheddach und nach
drei Seiten geschlossenen Fassaden antwortet das Wohnhaus
auf seine industriell geprägte Umgebung: Das Grundstück
grenzt unmittelbar an ein weitläufiges Bahnareal mit Gleisen
und gewerblich genutzten Flächen.

The architects conceived of this unusual single-family house in
Lancy, a suburb of Geneva, as a kind of hovering factory to live
in. The elevated building volume forms the protective roof for a
terrace and a car-parking space that lead seamlessly into the
overgrown garden. With its mono-pitch roofs and facades that
are closed on three sides the house responds to the pronounced
industrial character of its setting: the site directly borders an
extensive railway property with train tracks and commercially
used areas.

Man betritt das Wohnhaus ebenerdig über einen gläsernen
Raum, der mit dem Garten zu verschmelzen scheint. Eine mini-
malistische Spindeltreppe aus Stahl führt in das eigentliche
Wohn­geschoss, das sich auf wenige Räume beschränkt. Der
quadratische Grundriss wird durch das Stützenraster der Holz-
konstruktion sowie zwei innen liegende Terrassen gegliedert.
Den Hauptteil der Fläche nimmt der Wohnraum mit offener
Küche und Essplatz ein, der durch eine der beiden Terrassen in
verschiedene Bereiche unterteilt wird. Während sich der Wohn-
bereich mit einer komplett verglasten Fassade nach Osten zu
den Bahngleisen öffnet, schottet sich das Haus auf den ande-
ren Seiten mit einer geschlossenen schwarzen Holzfassade ab.
The house is entered at ground floor level through a glazed
space that seems to blend with the garden. A minimalist steel
spiral staircase leads up to the floor with the living space, which
consists of a small number of rooms. The square floor plan is
articulated by the structural grid of wooden columns and by
two internal terraces.
The living room with an open kitchen and dining space
takes up most of this level and is divided into different areas
by one of the two terraces. While this space opens to the east
and towards the railway tracks through a completely glazed
facade, on the other side the house is closed by a black wood
front with just a single opening.

Dennoch fällt über die beiden Terrassen und das Sheddach viel
Licht in die Innenräume. Zusammen mit den Oberflächen der
Decken und Wände aus weiß lasierten OSB-Platten entsteht
eine helle Atmosphäre, die mit dem schwarzen Äußeren des
Gebäudes kontrastiert.
Mit ihrem Haus wollen die Architekten auch eine Alterna-
tive zum massiven Schweizer Betonbau aufzeigen. Die leichte,
zum großen Teil vorgefertigte Holzkon­struktion ist nicht nur öko-
logischer und kostengünstiger, sondern spart auch viel Zeit: Sie
wurde in nur wenigen Tagen errichtet.  JL
All the same, plenty of light enters the interior spaces through the
two terraces and the single-pitch roofs. Together with the white-
glazed OSB panels used to line the ceilings and walls this
­creates a bright atmosphere that contrasts with the building’s
black exterior.
With this house the architects also wanted to present an
alternative to the massive concrete construction widely used in
Switzerland. The lightweight timber structure, most of it prefabri-
cated, is not only more ecological and economical, but also
time-saving: it was erected in just a few days.  JL
