1. Geltungsbereich 1. General Scope

Diese Vorschrift beschreibt das generelle
Vorgehen für das Einfahren mit Luft und
den mechanischen Probelauf von Laby®-
GI Kompressoren (LP- und DP-Typ) auf
dem Burckhardt Compression (BC)
Prüfstand.
Die Vorschrift gilt für Laby®- GI
Kompressoren die nur mit Labyrinth
Zylindern als auch mit Labyrinth und
Prozess Gas Zylindern ausgeführt sein
können.
Die Prozess Gas Zylinder haben eine
geschmierte Packung und einen
geschmierten Kolben.
This regulation describes the general
procedure for the running-in with air and the
mechanical test run of Laby®-GI
compressors (LP- and DP-type) in the test
facility from Burckhardt Compression (BC).
This specification is applicable for both types
of Laby®- GI compressors with labyrinth
type cylinders or in combination with process
gas cylinders.

jeweiligen Auftrag spezifizierte Temperatur
eingefahren werden, um im Betrieb das
optimale Spiel zu gewährleisten.
2.1 Besondere Anforderungen für das
Einfahren von BOG-LNG-Kompressoren
BOG-LNG-Kompressoren haben Aufgrund
spezieller Materialien unterschiedliche
Anforderungen. Für die 1. Stufe wird "Ni-
Resist" für Temperaturen bis -196 ° C
(aktuell -162 ° C) eingesetzt. Für die
zweite Stufe wird spezieller Sphäroguss
(bis zu - 100 ° C) verwendet. Die Kolben
dieser Zylinder werden mit dem ähnlichen
Material wie der Zylinder hergestellt, daher
ist das Temperaturausdehnungsverhalten
ähnlich. Grundsätzlich wird das Einfahren
gemäss dieser Spezifikation ausgeführt
und ist für alle Laby® Kolben unabhängig
des Materials von Zylinder und Kolben
erforderlich.
1. Stufe: Einfahrtemperatur mindestens
120°C oder bis zur maximalen
Betriebstemperatur.
2. - 4. Stufe (*): Einfahrtemperatur
mindestens 130°C oder bis zur maximalen
Betriebstemperatur.
(*) 3. oder 4. gelten nur für Pipeline-
Kompressoren mit höherem Abgabedruck
Die Prozess Gas Zylinder müssen nicht
eingefahren werden.
3. Vorbereitung
Der Kompressor wird entsprechend
eingerichtet:
 Abhängig vom Betriebsenddruck des
Kompressors können einzelne Zylinder
im Hochdruck Laby® Design gebaut
sein. Diese Kolben können nicht auf
dem Prüfstand eingefahren werden und
werden vor dem Probelauf komplett
ausgebaut (Kolbenstange ist für den
Probelauf montiert).

Every piston should be run-in at the for the
particular project specified temperature, to
ensure the optimal clearance at operating.
2.1 Special requirements for running-in BOG- C
LNG compressors
BOG-LNG compressors have different D
requirements because of special materials.
For the 1st stage “Ni-resist” for temperatures
down to -196°C (actual max. -162°C) is
used. For the 2nd stage special nodular cast
iron (down to – 100°C). The pistons of these
cylinders are made with the similar material
as the cylinder, therefore the temperature
expansion behavior is similar.
Basically running-in shall be carried out acc.
to this specification and is required for all
Laby® pistons independent of the material of
cylinder and piston.
1st stage: running-in temperature shall be
minimum 120°C or acc. to the maximum
operating temperature.
2nd – 4th stage (*): running-in temperature
shall be minimum 130°C or acc. to the
maximum operating temperature.
(*) 3rd or 4th only applicable for pipeline
compressors with higher discharge pressure.
The process gas cylinders must not be
runned in.
3. Preparation
The compressor is set up as follows:
 Depending on the discharge pressure of
the compressor, cylinders may have the
high pressure Laby® design. It is not
feasible to run them in in the test bench,
therefore these pistons have to be
complete disassembled (piston rod
remains assembled during the running
in).
 Place in the test facility.
 Connect the gas and cooling water pipes.
 Connect and check the oil pipes.

 Anschliessen und kontrollieren der
Ölleitungen.

Temperatursensoren.
 Wenn vorhanden und vertraglich
vereinbart, wird das projektspezifische
kompressorexterne Schmierölsystem
montiert, ansonsten wird das BC-
Prüfstands- Schmierölsystem
verwendet.
 Stellzylinder für die Ventilsteuerung
werden entfernt und der Ventildeckel
verschlossen.
 Bei den Prozess Gas Stufen sind die
Saug- und Druckventile und die
Laternen ausgebaut, die Kolben- und
Führungsringe sind eingebaut.
 Wenn vorhanden und vertraglich
vereinbart, wird für die geschmierten
Prozess Gas Zylinder das
projektspezifische Schmierölsystem
angeschlossen, ansonsten wird das
BC-Prüfstands- Schmierölsystem
verwendet.
3.1 Kolbenspiel
Das Kolbenspiel muss bekannt sein aus
der Messung oder aus dem vorhandenen
Montageprotokoll. Die Maschine von Hand
durchdrehen und prüfen ob die Kolben
und Kolbenstange berührungsfrei im
Zylinder laufen. Wenn nicht muss der
Zylinder neu ausgerichtet werden.
Ist mehr als ein Kolben im Zylinderblock
montiert, kann es zum Streifen der Kolben
im Zylinder kommen. Da die Kolben aber
zusätzlich durch die Gaskräfte geführt
werden, stellt das kein Problem dar,
bedingt aber besondere Vorsicht beim
Einfahren.
Bei Stufen, die nicht eingefahren werden,
müssen die Saugventile ausgebaut
werden.
3.2 Antrieb

3.1 Piston clearance
The piston clearance must be ascertained
from the measurement or from the assembly
report. Turn the machine by hand and check
whether the pistons and piston rods move
within the cylinder without contact. If not, the
cylinder must be re-aligned.
If more than one piston is existing in the
cylinder block, the pistons may touch within
the cylinder. However, because the pistons
are additionally driven by the gas forces, this
is generally not a problem, although it does
require special caution during the running-in.
For stages that are not run-in, the intake
valves must be removed.

4.3 Einfahren
Das Einfahren der Kolben wird mit Luft
durchgeführt. Das Einfahren ist ein
interner Prozess ohne externe Abnahme.
Die Kolben werden auf die für den
jeweiligen Auftrag spezifizierten
Temperaturen eingefahren. (auf +/- 5°C
genau, während des gesamten
Einfahrprozesses). Bei Kompressoren mit
kleinen oder einfachwirkenden Kolben,
kann unter Umständen die notwendige
Einfahrtemperatur nicht erreicht werden, in
diesem Fall wird nur auf die maximal
erreichbare Temperatur eingefahren.
Vor dem Start des Kompressors sind
folgende Arbeiten auszuführen:
 Externe Ölpumpe und
Zylinderschmierung starten.
 Kühlwassersystem einschalten und
Durchfluss durch alle Systeme
überprüfen.
 Kontrolle des Aufzeichnungsgerätes für
die Sensorsignale.
 Kompressor starten.
Bei offenem Druckregulierventil den
Kompressor so lange laufen lassen, bis
sich die Temperatur der jeweiligen Stufe
bei ca. 60°C stabilisiert hat.
Anschließend wird die Endtemperatur der
jeweiligen Stufe (es können auch mehre
Stufen parallel eingefahren werden) um
maximal 5 - 15°C erhöht, dazu den Druck
der jeweiligen Stufe um circa 0.1 - 0.2 bar
erhöhen. Den Kompressor 10 - 15 Minuten

4.3 Run-in
The pistons are run-in with air. The run in is
an internal process without external
approval.
The pistons will be run-in at the for the
particular project specified temperatures.

single-action pistons, the required run-in
temperature may not be reached in some
circumstances; in that case, the running-in is
performed at the highest reachable
temperature.
Perform the following tasks before starting
the compressor:
 Start the external oil pump and the
cylinder lubrication unit.
 Switch on the cooling water system and
check the flow through all systems.
 Check the recording device for the sensor
signals.
 Start the compressor.
Let the compressor run with the pressure
regulation valve open until the temperature
of the respective stage is stabilized at about C
60 °C.
Then increase the final temperature of the
respective stage (multiple stages can also
be run-in in parallel) by a maximum of 5 - 15
°C and also increase the pressure of the
respective stage by approximately 0.1 - 0.2

4.4 Probelauf

Stunden nach dem Einfahren
durchzuführen.
In dieser Zeit muss die Einfahrtemperatur
auf allen Kolben erreicht werden,
frühestens aber eine Stunde nach dem
Start des Kompressors.
Alle Betriebszustände sind zu
protokollieren, siehe Kapitel 4.5
An der Ölleckageleitung der
Wellendichtung sind max. 5
Tropfen/Minute zulässig.
Der Probelauf ist nicht mit einem
Leistungstest zu vergleichen.
4.5 Messungen
Alle verwendeten Messinstrumente
müssen entsprechend den
vorgeschriebenen Wartungsintervallen
geprüft und kalibriert sein.

 Kreuzkopfzapfenlager
 Schubstangenlager
 Kurbelwellenlager
 Kolbenstange (im UT unterhalb, im OT
oberhalb des Führungslagers /
Ölabstreifergehäuse)
Nach dem Einfahren und / oder dem
Probelauf sind die Kolbenspiele aller
Labyrinth Zylinder zu messen und zu
protokollieren.
4.6 Vibrations- Messungen
Vibrations-Messungen gemäss DIN ISO
10816-6 (Richtwerte gemäss Klassen-
nummer der Maschinenschwingung 3) und
VDI 3838. Protokollierung mit
TDO 4-122.497.299.

Nach dem Probelauf (oder wenn kein
Probelauf spezifiziert ist, nach dem
Einfahren) ist der Kompressor teilweise zu
demontieren und an folgenden Teilen eine
Sichtkontrolle durchzuführen:
 Zylinder
 Ventile
 Kolbenstangen
 Kolben (siehe Kapitel 5.2)
 Ölabstreifringe (2)
 Eine untere Schubstangenlagerhälfte
auf Schwungradseite
 Wellendichtung (3)
An folgenden Teilen ist eine Sichtkontrolle
ohne Demontage durchzuführen:
 Stopfbüchse
 Packung Prozess Gas Zylinder
 Führungslagerbüchse
 Kreuzkopf (soweit sichtbar im OT und
UT)
 Zylinderbüchse im Prozess Gas
Zylinder
(2) Wird nur ausgebaut wenn der
Kompressor und die / der Zylinder einzeln
und nicht zusammengebaut versandt
werden.
(3) Liegt die Leckage der Wellendichtung
innerhalb der zulässigen Werte, wird die
Wellendichtung nicht demontiert.
Da der Prozess Gas Zylinder und die
Packung für den geschmierten Betrieb
ausgelegt sind, läuft das
Zylinderschmiersystem beim Einfahren
und während dem Probelauf mit. Das Öl
wird mit Druck in den Prozess Gas
Zylinder und die Packung eingespeist und
fliesst ohne Gegendruck (Gasdruck) und
montierte Prozess- und Leckage-
Leitungen in das Distanzstück des
Kurbeltriebes ab.
4.8 Überwachung
Während dem Einfahren und dem
Probelauf muss der Kompressor

After the test run (or when a test run is not
specified, after the run in), the compressor
must be partially disassembled and the
following parts must be visually inspected:
 Cylinder
 Valves
 Piston rods
 Pistons (see Section 5.2)

 Oil scraper rings (2)
 One lower connecting rod bearing half on
flywheel side
 Shaft seal (3)
A visual inspection without disassembly
must be performed on the following parts:
 Piston rod gland
 Packing process gas cylinder
 Guide bearing bushing
 Crosshead (insofar as visible at UDP and
LDP)
 Cylinder liner in the process gas cylinder
(2) They are only removed if the compressor
and the cylinder(s) are sent individually and
not assembled.
(3) If the leak in the shaft seal is within the
permissible values, the shaft seal is not
removed.
Because the process gas cylinder and the
packing are designed for lubricated
operation, the cylinder lubrication unit is
running during the run-in and the test run.
The oil feeds with pressure the process gas
cylinder and packing. Due do the missing
backpressure (gas pressure) and
disassembled process and leakage lines the
oil flows into the distance piece of the
crankgear.
4.8 Monitoring
During the running-in and the test run, the
compressor must be listened to regularly. If

Run-in and run test of LABY-GI compressors
Die Sichtkontrolle und Begutachtung der
Bauteile erfolgt durch geschultes und
erfahrenes BC Personal.
Die Qualität und somit der Erfolg des
Einfahrens wird nach der Beendigung des
Einfahrprozesses durch die resultierenden
Kolbenspiele definiert. Die gemessenen
Kolbenspiele müssen nach dem Einfahren
innerhalb der zulässigen Toleranzen
gemäss der Spieltabelle des Projekts
liegen (max piston clearance after running
in procedure ).
Das Vorhandensein von mehr oder
weniger ausgeprägten Laufspuren an
Kolbenmantel und Zylinderwand ist
aufgrund der Vorgehensweise während
des Einfahrens unvermeidlich und liegt in
der Natur des Prozesses.
Die Beurteilung der Kontaktflächen und
der resultierenden Spuren liegt bei dem
zuständigen Begutachter seitens BC.
Solange ein flächenmässiger Abrieb an
Kolbenmantel und Zylinderwand nicht zur
Überschreitung des zulässigen maximalen
Kolbenspiels geführt hat, sind Laufspuren
jeglicher Art akzeptabel und ohne
Auswirkungen auf den späteren
Kompressorbetrieb.
Im Zweifelsfall entscheidet das Design
Department ob die Einfahrspuren
akzeptabel sind.
6. Abweichungen / Korrekturen
Werden die Abnahmekriterien nicht
eingehalten, so erstellt der
Werkskontrolleur eine
Abweichungsmeldung (ABM) und stellt
diese der Qualitätsstelle Burckhardt
Compression zu, welche die Abweichung
gemäss Qualitätshandbuch bearbeitet.
7. Dokumentation
Für jeden Kompressor ist ein Protokoll mit
den folgenden Angaben zu erstellen:

The visual inspection and evaluation of the
components are carried out by trained and
experienced personnel from BC.
The quality and therefore the success of the
running in process will be defined after the
completion of the running in process with the
resulting piston clearances. The measured
piston clearances must be within the
acceptable tolerances according the
clearance table of the project (max piston
clearance after running in procedure).
The presence of more or less markings and
traces on the piston skirt and on the cylinder
wall is inevitable due to the procedure during
running in and is in the nature of the
process.
The assessment of the contact surfaces and
the resulting traces lies purely with the
competent assessor by BC.
As long as an excessive wear on the piston
skirt and cylinder wall has not led to
exceeding the maximum permissible piston
clearance, any markings and traces of any
kind are acceptable and without affecting the
subsequent compressor operation.
In case of doubt, Design Department will
decide whether the run-in marks are
acceptable.
6. Nonconformities / Corrections
If the inspection and acceptance criteria are
not met, the plant inspector prepares a non-
conformance report (NCR) and submits it to
the Burckhardt Compression Quality Office,
which processes the nonconformity in
accordance with the quality manual.
7. Documentation
A report containing the following information
must be prepared for each compressor:
