AIM AND OBJECTIVES

Aims:
Help Improve Rural Sanitation and Hygiene in (specific) North-West Region Achieve higher impact of IEC activities Contribute to NTP BCC component

Objectives:
To determine directions of communication by
Developing key messages for communication Identifying key communication channels

To develop local Plan of Actions on BCC

Focusing on target audience:


School children Child care takers (mothers/grand mothers)

Focusing on key behaviors


Access and hygienic use of latrine; Hand Washing with Soap (HWWS) Safe disposal of child' feces not a focus

Schoolchildren:
Clean hands Clean notebooks and Clean hands - Challenging the Red Stars

Adults:
Good Motherhood (use WB WSP messages and materials). Consider a message on Clean hand Good respect to ancestors

Comprehensive Review of existing IEC materials Maximize the use of existing materials:
WB WSP materials/games on HWWS: duplication for use in schools and communities Educational Video and Technical guidebook/flipcharts: duplication for use by motivators at villages/schools

New IEC materials:


Video Clips on ODF/Latrine Access A pamphlet on Sanitation options (based on the informed choice booklet)

Strategy: Key Communication Channels


Key channels:
Group meeting/village meeting (normally at the village head, either formal or non-formal; and WU meeting) Campaign/contest at schools and market/fair Television (when and where possible) Village Loudspeakers: messages in local languages when and where possible

Reinforcement/Complementary:
Home visits Study visits (visiting the neighbors/good example)

Promote Behavior change among their members Apply localized strategy, materials and techniques

Coordinating all WASH players Allocate budget for IEC/BCC properly Support local authority (especially the village head) to implement BCC activities
