SNMP Interface, Device Discovery Toolkit, Enhanced Reports - MIIM Advanced Physical Layer Management Version 2.0 has arrived 08/08/11 Molex Premise Networks releases version 2.0 of its MIIM Advanced Physical Layer Management solution. With continued focus on enhanced full channel monitoring and management, and a revolutionary user experience, MIIM version 2.0 brings game-changing capabilities and value to enterprises worldwide. MIIMs unique capability to detect physical channel changes instantly enables unprecedented visibility for network managers into the physical layer infrastructure. As in previous versions, MIIM detects, in real-time, all connections on the physical channel from the switch to the work area device regardless of whether powered on or off. The MIIM solution immediately senses when there is a physical change in the channel and what specific devices are affected by the change while pinpointing the exact location of the device on a building map. With this latest release, MIIM brings new and exciting capabilities to the world of intelligent physical layer management, including communication with other systems using SNMP for faster and more accurate updates on the status of their Ethernet channels. MIIM can provide information to other network tools, such as Network Management Systems (NMS), about work orders, channel changes, alarms, and log entries. The user can configure MIIM to send alarms to multiple systems and for each system define the set of alarms the system receives from MIIM. This new communication to other management systems drives incremental value and flexibility for businesses. Also new with version 2.0 is MIIMs Device Discovery Toolkit. The toolkit includes three types of discovery; Global Discovery, Directed Discovery and Event-Driven Discovery. All three discovery types populate the MAC and IP addresses of any discovered devices to the MIIM database including WAPs or VOIP phones plus the discovery of other devices attached to the device at the end of the channel. Global Discovery of devices, either a scheduled or on-demand polling, enables the discovery of any device attached to any switch connected to MIIM. Directed Discovery allows the user to determine end device information for specific switch addresses. Unique to MIIM is Event-Driven Discovery that immediately detects and communicates changes to a complete channel when devices are added or removed. Reporting of network status is made easier than ever with version 2.0, with a variety of report templates, definable reporting parameters, and the ability to view reports on the screen or export report files in PDF, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel formats.
