Translation

[002.088. They say, "Our hearts are the wrappings (which preserve Allah.s Word: we
need no more)." Nay, Allah.s curse is on them for their blasphemy: Little is it they
believe.
002.089. And when there comes to them a Book from Allah, confirming what is with
them,- although from of old they had prayed for victory against those without Faith,-
when there comes to them that which they (should) have recognised, they refuse to
believe in it but the curse of Allah is on those without Faith.
002.090. Miserable is the price for which they have sold their souls, in that they deny
(the revelation) which Allah has sent down, in insolent envy that Allah of His Grace
should send it to any of His servants He pleases: Thus have they drawn on themselves
Wrath upon Wrath. And humiliating is the punishment of those who reject Faith]

The holy Quran is telling us about Israelite and Jews and Christians. The verse in which
Allah says [Waqaloo quloobuna ghulfun] (and they
said that our hearts are wrapped) Here something is being said about the Jews and
Israelites. That said that the hearts of them are unable to understand what the prophet
(Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and his progeny said. Arabic word ghulf is from ghilaaf.
And ghilaaf means a cover. It means that their hearts are covered and sealed to the extent
that they are unable to understand the prophet and his teachings. When the prophet(Salla
'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) calls them there is no way there is no penetration that nothing
enters their heart to make them understand about the teachings of Islam. And here they
are making fun of the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) that their hearts are
covered. Then in return Allah says that your hearts are not covered. The fact is this that

Allah has cursed them for their disbelief [bal

laAAanahumu Allahu ]. The holy Quran says that:
[faqaleelan ma yu/minoona] ( so little is that which they
believe). In point of fact there are few people who do understand what are the real
teachings of Islam. This is the custom of life that all the time the true believers are
always a few. And the majority is unable to understand the true values and code of life.
You must have read and heard that the majority is always authority. No. There is
nothing like that. This is not always right and acceptable. Sometimes minority is
authority in their regulations and in their notions and in their philosophy of life. This
verse is the sound proof of this scientific phenomenon that the minority was able to
understand the holy teachings of the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and the
majority did not pay attention to it. Their hearts were logic-tight. That’s why they made
fun of the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam). And they were cursed by Allah. In
other verse Allah says [waman amana maAAahu illa

qaleelun] they did not believe in him. Very few of them who believed in him. Allah
says: [waqaleelun min AAibadiya alshshakooru]
very few among my servants are grateful. So we have seen that Allah gives emphasis on
the minority. Because they were right and they were also grateful to Allah for the
blessings what they got directly from Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. So it is not important
that majority may give you the guidance. No. At other place Allah says:

[kam min fi-atin qaleelatin ghalabat fi-

atan katheeratan bi-ithni Allahi ] how many times the minority achieved the victory on
the majority? So most of the time majority is not the issue. The important thing is we
have to see and seek the truth, where does it lye, with majority or with the minority.
That’s all. The group with truth will be authority.
Now-a-days most of the people say that the Shite’s are not right. It should not be
the problem. The prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) once said before his death that
if the time came and you saw that the people are going on the left side and you
saw the Imam Ali (AS) going to other side, then the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa
sallam) said: then follow the path of Imam Ali (AS). How brilliant and
glorious is the lesson! The holy Quran says:

[Walamma jaahum kitabun min AAindi

Allahi] (And when there came to them (the Jews) a Book from Allah) when the book of
Allah came to them (the disbelievers). The holy Quran confirms that the first person who
was a Muslim he was prophet Ibrahim. The holy Quran says:

Ibrahim is the one whose name is Muslim. And not only this whey
Ibrahim came out and preached, he told that the idols are not the God. I
am the first Muslim. But Islam is the religion that prophet Adam started on this earth.
And it transferred to prophet Ibrahim to Nuh, to Yahyha, to Zakaria, Shuaib, and it came
to the last prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam). And this religion will go on with any
change till the Day of Judgment. When the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam)
came from Hajj then a message came from the sky:
[waana awwalu almuslimeena]Oh you the prophet –

Allah delivered to you. And in the end it was said:

[alyawma akmaltu lakum deenakum ] today is
the day I perfected your religion. But it must be noted with concern that the religion did
not become perfect until the day of Hajj tul widaa at the place that is called Rabeer Hum.
And the holy Quran continues: [waatmamtu
AAalaykum niAAmatee] and I completed My blessings upon you.

[waradeetu lakumu al-islama deenan ]and

accept the Islam as your religion. The holy Quran also tells us some about the
religions that have passed. He talks about Essa, Moses, Yahya, Shuaib, Zakaria to
confirm that they were all on the right path. If you see in the books of other religions
there is clear mention of our last messenger. And if you look into the book of Moses
there is mention about the previous prophet and coming prophet. So this Islam is a chain
coming from the previous prophets. This is all according to the design of Allah Subhana-

Wa-Ta’aala. In the Quran it is mentioned that prophet Essa said

to his companions that there is a messenger who is coming after me and his name is
Ahmad. Even in the books of previous religions there is clear mention about the signs of
the coming of our prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam). Allah says:
[Mosesddiqun lima maAAahum ]in order to confirm
what was with them. And despite the fact that they had been praying for victory over the
disbelievers. And before praying for the victory the holy Quran says:
[yastaftihoona ] they were trying to know and find out and

achieve the victory on the disbelievers but [falamma

jaahum ma AAarafoo ]when the time came that they found what they were looking for the signs
of the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam), and when the prophet came what the things they
were looking for in order to find him and follow him. And they were expecting that the prophet
would be from them –among the Jews. And when the prophet came and they found that he
had all the signs what they were looking for but according to the divine planning the
prophet was not from their tribe. It depressed them. The holy Quran tells us:
[kafaroo bihi ]they refused (to accept Muhammad). It is
interesting and surprising to note that they (Jews) were praying to Allah for the prophet
and final book. But when Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) came they denied
and vehemently refused the book of him. It was their negative prejudice. They used to
consider their tribe and blood superior to all others. They refused to accept and obey and
to abide by the regulations of the Muhammad and the Quran –that’s why Allah cursed
them. The most important point to be noted that Allah cursed them (the disbelievers)
twice. Here from we can imagine that how much they had been cursed by Allah
Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. If a person possesses the true light of the holy Quran and the last
messenger (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) it is the purified blessing upon him. And the

Quran says: [Bi/sama ishtaraw bihi anfusahum ]

(How bad is that for which they have sold their ownselves…). Evil for which they have
sold their souls. Their end is very horrible. There are two kinds of people. There is
category of the people that they sold their hereafter and swapped this world for it.
Because they want to enjoy their materialistic life. The prophet said
the worst person is the second group who sold their

hereafter and bought and swapped with some other world. The killer of Imam Hussain
bought the perpetual infernal fires of the hell, because he was the follower of the Yazid
(the garbage of humanity). He made Yazid (the dirtiest man in the world) happy. So
such people sold their hereafter for sinful people. Such people neither enjoy this world
nor the life of hereafter. The get double loss. The prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam)
called this group the worst.
Other group of people is a happy group. They sell this world for obtaining the
hereafter. They have the blessings in the world and in paradise.

The people who bought this world instead of buying the hereafter they are the
worst and cursed. For them Allah says:

[walilkafireena AAathabun muheenun] the

disbelievers will suffer humiliating torment. One of the ways of explaining the situation,
the holy Quran adapts that when it mentions about the punishment, it sometimes means
the worldly punishment. That has to be given here. And sometimes the punishment is
given in hereafter. Sometimes it says: there are punishments in this world.
And sometimes it says: they have punishment in hereafter. And it is
generally agreed that when Allah describes about the punishment, it is the punishment for
both worlds – this world and hereafter. And the punishment starts from here before
entering the hereafter. And there are lot of ways of punishments what Allah gives
the disbelievers. Allah can test any person. This is also a kind of punishment. Or Allah
gives him a child who always gives him problems. This is also a kind of punishment
from Allah. Or some other person will give him problems. Also it is a punishment on
him from Allah. Sometimes problems come after one another. This is also a kind of
punishment from Allah upon a sinner in this world. Allah also gives sickness to the
sinner. A kind of punishment also it is. The sinner may be rich. But his much of the
money goes for the cure of the diseases.
The holy Quran says:

[Waman aAArada AAan thikree

fa-inna lahu maAAeeshatan dankan ] whoever turns away from our verses from our
miracles, [fa-inna lahu maAAeeshatan dankan ] that
man has to have a tough life. that in this world he has to be
punished. He has to be in difficulties. And on the Day of Judgment the holy Quran says:
[wanahshuruhu yawma alqiyamati aAAman]The
first punishment a man will get on the Day of Judgment, he will be raised blind.
[Qala rabbi lima hashartanee aAAma ] He will

ask Allah that why he was raised blind? [waqad kuntu

baseeran] while I was a man of sighting eyes. Then Allah will answer:
[Qala kathalika atatka ayatuna ]but My miracles
came to you verses came to you and you forgot them and did not
pay attention to the right and bright light.
[wakathalika alyawma tunsa]and today is the day that
you will (also) be forgotten. So if a man stays away from the verses of Allah one of the
first punishments of him will be that he will be raised blind on the Day of Judgment.
And he will be forgotten by Allah. May Allah help us be a true followers of the holy
Quran, and Ahlul Bayt. (Amen)
