Hi... I just joined the forum. I recently got a Propel. Forgive me if I sound naive, but why would someone want to turn off the 3G? I tried to read up on the differences but the info (from another site) sounded like jargon. Is this something I need to do? Or is it a preferrential setting? Thanks.

So unless you're surfing or using GPS on your phone, you can keep it on EDGE to extend your battery life.

Fetching email on EDGE is quite sufficient. I did a test recently on my Tilt to prove a point. Day 1, I had Tilt on 3G from 9am to 5pm, started at 89% battery. By 5pm I was down to 39% battery. Day 2, I had Tilt on EDGE from 9am to 4pm. Started at 68% battery and ended at 58% battery. Same push and pull email and apps active on the phone during that time and no calls on either day.

Ohhh...I understand now. Thanks. I have noticed that my battery does drain within 4 days of just staying on. I don't need the web services. So, I guess I can try to convert it back to 2G...Thanks for all the information. Happy New Year everyone. Becca

But, I can't select item 3 Network Mode. It goes from item 2 Power on Attach and skips item 3 and goes to item 4 Network Order Item 3 Network Mode is greyed out.

This also works on a Samsung Sync and I just want to say THANK YOU!!! THIS is the information I was looking for and I will be sure to bookmark it now. I didn't think there was a way to change the network settings but you found it...THANK YOU now I don't have to deal with the problems I have been having with 3G. Edge is good enough for me.
