Subject Details 3.1Employee Motivation Motivation is a psychological phenomenon which generate within an individual.

A person feels the lack of certain needs to satisfy which he feels working more. The needs satisfying ego motivates a person to do better than he normally does. A motivation is a n inner feeling which energizes a person to work more. I. Importance of Motivation The following is the importance of motivation a. High Performance Motivated Employees will put maximum effort for achieving organsational goals. Better performance will also result in higher productivity. b. Low employee turn over and absenteeism When the employees are not satisfied with their jobs then they will leave it whenever they get an alternative offer. The dissatisfaction among employees also increases absenteeism. The rate of absenteeism will also be low because they will try to increase their output. c. Better Organsational Image. Those employees which offer better monetary and non monetary facilities to their employees have a better image among them. Such concerns are successful in attracting better qualified and experience persons. d. Better Industrial Relations A good motivational system will create job satisfaction among employees. These will be no reason for conflict and cordial relation among both sider will create a health atmosphere. So motivational among employees will lead to better industrial relations.

e. Acceptability to Change The changing social and industrial situations will require changes and improvements in the working of enterprises. These will be a need to introduce new and better methods of work form time to time. 2. Techniques to increase motivation Motivational techniques may be classified in to two categories ie, financial and non financial. Both the categories of motivation are discussed as under. a. Financial Motivations. Financial Motivation may be in the form of more wages and salaries, bonuses, profit sharing, leave with pay, medical Reimbursement Company paid insurance or any of the other things that may be given to employees for performance. The economists and most mangers consider many and financial incentives as important motivators. b. Non- Financial Motivation These motivations are in the nature of better status, recognizing, participation, job security etc. Some of these motivations are discussed below. .Reorganization The reorganization may be in the form of word of praise, a part on the back, a fatter of appreciation, entry in annual confidential report etc. .Participation Participation has been considered a good technique for motivation. If implies physical and mental involvement of people in decision making process. .Status It refers to a social status of a person and if satisfies egoistic need. A management may create some status symbols in the organization. In this way status needs act as motivation. .Competition In same originations competitions is used as a motivator. Various persons are given certain objectives and every boby tries it achieves those head of others. .Job Enrichments

According to Hertzberg, job enrichment would provide an opportunity for the employees is psychological growth. So it is a recognized devise of motivation. 3. Types of Motivations The following are the types of motivations. a. Positive Motivation Positive Motivation or incentive motivation is based on reward. The workers are offered incentives for achieving the desired goals. The incentives may be in the shape of more pay, promotion, reorganization of work etc. b. Negative Motivation Negative or fear motivation is based on force or fear. Fear causes employees to act in a certain way. The employees do not willingly co-operate rather they want to avoid the punishment. 4. Reason for Selection of this Topic Every person has difference reasons for working. We all work because we obtain Something that we need from work. The something obtained from work inputs morale, Employee motivation, and the quality of life. Importance of Employee motivation to the company Every management tries to coordinate various factors of production in such a way that their contribution is maximum in achieving organizational goals. To improve the overall performance in a business it become essential of human beings. 6. Learning from the Study The quality of an organizations employees directly influence the ability to gain and sustain competitive advantage. In an uncertain economic climate, talented employees are a critical corporate resources. Employees are now the primary builders of a profitable business.
