Hypersensitivity, pregnancy. Use
cautiously in: head trauma; increased intracranial pressure; severe renal, hepatic
or pulmonary disease; hypothyroidism; adrenal insufficiency; alcoholism.
Undiagnosed abdominal pain; prostatic hypertrophy
Common side effects CNS: confusion, sedation, dizziness, dysphoria, euphoria
floating feeling, hallucinations, headache, unusual dreams. Blurred vision
diplopia, miosis, respiratory depression. Othrostatic hypotension.
constipation, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting. Urinary retention, flushing, sweating
physical dependence, psychological dependence; tolerance

Interactions with other patient drugs, OTC, or herbal
medicines (ask patient specifically)
Caution with MAO inhibitors
Alcohol, antihistamines, sedative/hypnotics, partial
antagonist opioid analygesics
Nalbuphine; buprenorphine; pentazocine
Lab value alterations caused by medicine
May increase plasma amylase and lipase levels
Be sure to teach the patient the following about this medication
Instruct patient on how and when to ask for pain medication. Medication may
cause drowsiness or dizziness. Patient to call for assistance when ambulating.
Patient to avoid alcohol or other CNS depressants.
