CATIA - Electrical System Functional Definition

Manage functional design and review of electrical systems.

Product overview CATIA - Electrical System Functional Definition 2 (EFD) is dedicated to the functional design of electrical systems and addresses the first stage in the electrical system engineering process. This product is a light weight, portable, multi-platform application. It provides an open architecture to integrate customer-defined commands and dynamically display customer defined attributes. EFD allows engineers to design and formalize electrical systems using Excel-like form views. It also provides users with the ability to pre-visualize system assemblies. Neutral ASCII formats (CSV like format) can be imported and exported, and EFD provides advanced navigation capabilities. It also features links to physical V4 libraries, with access driven by functional specifications. In addition, users can analyze and resolve external intersystem links. Refines system connectivity; analyzes and resolves external connectivity links.

Product Key Customers Benefits CATIA - ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONAL DEFINITION 2 (EFD) is a product integrated into the Portal frame. It is a textual, electrical, functional definition application characterized by a client WebTop user interface. This client WebTop application resides on a network in the CATIA V5 server with an object distributed architecture. Designing and managing functional electrical systems... This application provides Bill of Material views for the creation and modification of systems, functional devices, signals, group signals, components interconnection, floating points, as well as external connections and their associated features. Dedicated views allow users to create and manage electrical connection links between components.

Product Highlights Provides specification driven access and links to physical V5 catalogs. Automatically generates functional features. Exports electrical functional design forms through CSV-like files. Generates a graphical report and preview in a printable format. Gives advanced navigation capabilities.

Specification driven access and links to physical V5 catalogs... Physical relationships can be suggested from a given functional specification using compatibility management. By accessing the V5 electrical catalogs, users can tap all basic electrical standard part management capabilities provided by the CATIA Electrical Library. Within CATIA - Electrical Librarian 2 (ELB), users can select a functional device imported from CATIA - Electrical System Functional Definition 2 (EFD) for placement in a 3D mock-up. The list of physical devices available in the catalog is filtered according to the pre-selected function. Functional derived from Physical... Users can reuse previous designs and related knowledge by automatically generating functional features from physical realizations. Export electrical systems design forms through ASCII files... Users can export all data from the CATIA V5 electrical CATProduct, using neutral ASCII files (CSV format) readable from Excel spread sheets, including functional electrical components, associated attributes, and assembly and connectivity links. CSV files provide a quick and easy way to integrate external data; the CSV format is standard and the structure is pre-defined. Generation of electrical functional design forms and associated information from Excel files... Users can generate Bill Of Material views and electrical advanced structures (assembly and connectivity links) from neutral ASCII files (CSV format). The electrical types are associated with specific graphical representations (icon) in the information center. Advanced navigation capabilities... Navigation tools are provided through the "find" function, electrical connectivity analysis and assembly analysis. Contextual menu items and dedicated views provide users with advanced capabilities to navigate through electrical connectivity ("Connected to", "Go to connected element", etc.), assembly link and electrical object ("search", etc.).

System Integration... Users can analyze and resolve external connectivity links to integrate systems. When loading a document, users information about links to other documents in the information center. Linked documents can by accessed by simply clicking on the link. Refine system connectivity... EFD allows users to refine component interconnections throughout the process. Customer defined command for electrical objects... In addition to the provided toolbar menus, commands and contextual menus, users can add self-defined commands for electrical objects. Dynamic ability to read customer data dictionary through the Java client application... Rebuilding the application is not required to utilize a customer's existing data dictionary; attributes/properties are loaded at runtime. Magnitudes also are managed by the application. Generation of graphical preview. .. Users can visualize and better utilize functional data and can easily navigate for connections. The preview is optimized for clarity among all users. For example, intercrossing is minimized. Multiple options are available to interactively define organization of the elements within the preview. Generation of printable format files for report capabilities... Users can generate reports in postscript format or they can be printed directly by system and filtered by entity.
