Note that all three conditions should show "OK !" for the transport to be executed in a safe and reliable manner.
SPECIFIC NOTES:
1 Although the absolute traction between the tires and road surface increases as the number of drive axles increase, the efficiency of the drive axles slightly slightly reduces due to internal friction. 2 Rear Axle capacity (fifth wheel) Rcap is the maximum amount of Prime Mover Counter Weight (Wc) that can be stacked on the back of the Prime Mover. In case a "Goose Neck" is used in the Prime Mover/Transporter combination than the weight that is hydraulically transferred to the Prime Mover's rear axles (fifth w should be manually deducted from the Load Weight or Transporter Weight. 3 Rolling Friction is set at 4%, which is valid for most hard surfaces. It also includes all internal and external friction in the whole Prime Mover/Transporter combination 4 In this spread sheet it is assumed that the minimum static friction between rubber and dry asphalt is 0.6, the maximum static friction is 0.8. The actual static friction depends on various factors such as tire and asphalt composition but generally lies between 0.6 and 0.8. 5 The speed calculated in this spread sheet are theoretical and do not take into account any environmental forces such as wind or the state (and incline) of the road. Some Prime Movers have a speed limited mounted (by the manufacturer) which is also not taken into account. Max. Speed (Vmax) may therefore be too high.
GENERAL NOTES:
This spread sheet is only valid for Prime Movers with only rear drive axles. In case any steer axles are driven, the accuracy is no longer guaranteed. It is assumed that half of the Prime Mover bare weight is applied to the rear axles, it is also assumed that counter weight is completely applied to the rear axles. Even on slopes this assumption is made. This spread sheet does not apply to a Prime Movers equipped with a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). This spread sheet does not take into account the presence or absence of a differential.
Maximum Torque (T m) Maximum twisting force produced by the Prime Mover's engine. Maximum Tractive Force (F1 total) Maximum amount of force that the engine can supply to the tires of the drive axles. Maximum Tractive Force per axle (F1 axle) Maximum amount of force divided by the number of driven axles. Maximum Traction or Maximum Rimpull (Frp) Maximum total amount of force that the tires can apply to the road surface without slipping. This spreadsheet calculates two values for Frp. A minimum and a maximum value both valid for dry asphalt but with two different values for the static friction factor (MuS). Maximum Traction or Maximum Rimpull per axle (Frp max axle and Frp min axle) Maximum amount of force per drive axle that the tires can apply to the road surface without slipping. This spreadsheet calculates two values for Frp. A minimum and a maximum value both valid for dry asphalt but with two different values for the static friction factor (MuS). Required Pull Force (F req.) Force required to cause the Prime Mover (incl. transporter) to roll Conditions: When (F1 axle) > (Frp axle) the Prime Mover tires will slip. Likewise, when (Frp axle) > (F1 axle) the Prime Mover tires will not slip, whether the Prime Mover will actually roll in such a case depends on (F req.) For the Prime Mover to roll following conditions should apply; (Frp axle) > (F1 axle) and (F1 total) > (F req.) Examples: If (F1 axle) > (Frp axle) the Prime Mover tires will slip. Shifting up one gear may result in a low enough (F1) to avoid slipping. This only applies if (Frp) > (F req.) If (F1 axle) > (Frp axle) the Prime Mover tires will slip. Adding additional Counter Weight (Wc) to the Prime Mover may increase (Frp) enough to avoid slipping. This only applies if (Wc) remains below Rear Axle (fifth wheel) capacity (Rcap).
