Overview
The Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 is a scholarship programme dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in academia and extra-curricular activities (ECA). It is based on academic merits and ECA performances of students sitting for the 2011 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

Application Procedure

Entitlement
Scholarship awards of the following quanta RM8,000, RM12,000 or RM18,000 will be provided to successful applicants. The scholarship will be applicable as a tuition fee waiver in the January 2012 intake of the GCE A-Level programme at Sunway College. Successful applicants of the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 will be given further opportunity to upgrade their scholarship to a higher quantum based on the Tan Sri Dato Seri Jeffrey Cheah Entrance scholarships upon the release of the actual Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results in March 2012. In addition, scholars will have the opportunity to convert their Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 scholarship into a full scholarship if they obtain a minimum of 4A* in their actual GCE A-Level examinations (this is applicable only to students who have not already converted their Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 to a full merit scholarship). Successful applicants of the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 will be eligible for further bursaries and scholarships in the degree level at Sunway College and Sunway University.

Obtain a Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 application form from your school counsellor or download it from sunway.edu.my/college/scholarships

Complete the application form with the required documents: 1. Certified copy of your school results (Form 4 leading up to your Form 5 mid-year results); 2. Certified copies of relevant certificates.

Eligibility
This scholarship is open to all Malaysian candidates sitting for the 2011 SPM examinations. The following requirements must be met: 1. Results of 5As (combination of A- and above) in the schools Form 5 mid-year examinations. 2. Maintained a minimum of B in the following 5 subjects (English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mathematics, 1 Science subject & 1 other academic subject) in Form 4 (mid-year and final examinations). 3. Currently holds or have held positions of responsibility in school or in extra-curricular activities such as sports, societies, clubs or uniformed bodies. Competition winners at various levels are encouraged to apply. Note : To maintain the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012, scholars must obtain a minimum of 5As in the actual SPM results.

If you are shortlisted, an e-mail will be sent to you by 5th September 2011. A follow-up call will be made by a representative of the scholarship committee to arrange an interview date with you at the nearest location to your town of residence.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which results do I use to apply for the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012? You need to submit your Form 5 mid-year examination results along with the results of your Form 4 mid-year and final examinations. 2. How can I obtain my results? Your results should be available in your school report card or from your schools records. You will have to request for a certified copy from your schools principal. 3. Are there any subjects not included? We will consider all of your academic subjects except English 1119. 4. Which intake can I apply for? The Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 is only applicable for the January 2012 intake of the GCE A-Level programme at Sunway College. 5. Upon submission of my application form for the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012, what can I expect next? By Monday 5th September 2011, you will be notified if your application has been successful via e-mail. You will then be required to attend an interview with us at your nearest town. 6. Are there any bond attached to the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012? There is no bond attached to this scholarship. However, as a scholarship recipient, you are required to maintain satisfactory academic results in your GCE A-Level programme while remaining active in ECA. Scholarship recipients are encouraged to contribute up to 15 hours of their personal time towards social and community projects organised by the Sunway Education Group. 7. Will I be eligible if I am a recipient of another scholarship? You are not allowed to receive other scholarships while on Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012. 8. Upon receiving the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012, can I transfer to another programme at Sunway College? The Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 is not transferable. 9. If I am selected to go for National Service, can I delay my intake? Yes. For Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 scholars selected to go for National Service, you may request for a deferment in your intake. You will be required to provide the necessary supporting documents of your selection and a written request for deferment. You will only be able to defer your intake until the earliest intake after the completion of your National Service. 10. What happens if my actual SPM results do not meet the stipulated requirements of the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012? The Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 is granted on a conditional basis. To maintain the scholarship, you must obtain a minimum of 5As in your actual SPM result. Otherwise, you are deemed as not meeting the minimum requirements, and will therefore not be able to maintain the scholarship. As the scholarship will be disbursed according to the semesters, you will therefore not be eligible for further disbursements in the following semesters. Scholars will not need to repay the disbursement utilised in the first semester. 11. How many scholarships are on offer for the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012? There is no fix overall quantum for this scholarship. Scholarships will be awarded based on the eligibility and abilities of the applicants to fulfil the academic, extra-curricular activities and interview of the scholarship programme. 12. What are the criteria for consideration of the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012? Selection of scholars will be based on their academic results and consistency, and on other personal qualities such as their involvement in extra-curricular activities and achievements, leadership qualities and social quotient. It is through the combination of these criteria that we award the quantum to the scholars.

Terms and conditions

1. The Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 are applicable for the Cambridge GCE A-Level programme at Sunway College in Klang Valley and Johor Bahru only and are not applicable for period of study beyond the maximum duration of one and a half years. The award of a scholarship takes the form of reduction in the tuition fee payable; it is not a cash award. In the event where the scholarship is less than the tuition fee, student is responsible for the outstanding fee amount. In the event where the scholarship amount awarded is more than the tuition fee, student will be awarded the tuition fee amount only. The tuition fee waiver will be implemented from the 1st semester of the programme onwards. The terms of the scholarship disbursements are determined by Sunway College. The quantum of awards to successful applicants is at the sole discretion of Sunway College. Sunway College reserves the rights to decide on the number of scholarships to be awarded. This scholarship is open to all students (Malaysian only) sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations in year 2011. English 1119 will not be considered when granting the scholarship. The scholarship offered is for the January 2012 intake only. Special arrangements may be given to students selected for National Service in the year 2012. 2.

10. Students receiving scholarships / financial assistance / bursaries from other bodies are not eligible for these scholarships. 11. The Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 cannot be combined with other scholarships or bursaries won through competitions organised by Sunway College. 12. The scholarships offered are subject to other terms and conditions, which will be stated in the Letter of Offer to be signed by the parent / guardian. Sunway College reserves the right to request for extra documentations and / or an additional interview with the applicant. 13. Sunway College reserves the right to alter, add or delete any of the terms and conditions of the scholarship scheme at any point in time as and when Sunway College deems necessary. 14. Sunway College reserves the right to review scholarships awarded on a semester basis. In exceptional cases, scholarships may be withdrawn at any time in the event of gross misconduct or failure to meet the required academic grades. 15. In the event that the recipient is suspended or terminated by Sunway College at any point in time, before the completion of the programme, the scholarship shall automatically be terminated. 16. In case of withdrawal by the recipient before the completion of the course, Sunway College reserves the right to ask for refund of the portion of scholarship that has already been disbursed to the recipient thus far. 17. This scholarship does not cover general fees, exam fees, re-sit or re-enrolment and accommodation fees which must be paid by all scholarship recipients where applicable. 18. In the event of a dispute on the eligibility for the scholarship, the decision made by the Scholarship Committee is final and no appeals will be entertained. 19. The successful applicant is required to pay the application fee & registration fee (non-refundable) upon acceptance of the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 and to pay the balance of the fees due (after deduction) by the commencement date of the programme, failing which the scholarship will be considered null and void. 20. Sunway College shall not be held liable for any injuries or mishaps that may befall candidates at or in passage to the interview centres. 21. Applicants must be of respectable character and should not have any criminal convictions or records and should not have been involved in any misconduct which may bring Sunway College into disrepute. 22. Sunway College reserves the right to involve the scholarship recipients in interviews, advertisements, photography or other publicity related activities for the purpose of promoting the educational institution. 23. All scholarship recipients of the Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 are encouraged to contribute up to 15 hours of their personal time towards social and community projects organised by the Sunway Education Group. 24. All Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 recipients who obtain a minimum of 4A* in their GCE A-Level Examinations results may convert their scholarships into Exit Scholarship which entails a full tuition fee waiver for 3 A-Level subjects. 25. All Sunway A-Level Scholarships 2012 recipients who obtained excellent results in their actual SPM results may convert their scholarship into Entrance Scholarships and therefore will not be eligible for Exit Scholarship. 26. All applications must be received by the 19th August 2011 by 5.00pm. Late applications will not be considered. 27. Shortlisted applicants will be notified by Sunway College of the date, time and venue of the interview. Successful candidates will be informed between late October and early November 2011. Recipients must confirm acceptance of the scholarship within 2 weeks of receiving the email of notification.
