AboutWAAM:TheWildlifeandAquatic
AnimalMedicineClubattheUniversityof
CaliforniaDavisSchoolofVeterinaryMedicine
(UCDSVM)seekstoincreaseknowledgeand
stimulateinterestinwildanimalcare,whether
inacaptiveorfreerangingsetting.Thisinterest
spansmanylevels,fromthecareofindividuals
tothehealthofpopulationsorentire
ecosystems.Ourgoalistohelppreparethenext
generationofvetstosuccessfullytendtothe
greatdiversityoftheworldscreatures.

WhyanEndowment?

Wildlifevetstypicallyearnmuchless
thancolleaguesfocusingondomestic
species;yet,asstudentsweincurthe
samedebt.
Therearefewscholarshipsavailablefor
vetstudentswithanemphasisinwildlife
oraquaticmedicine,sotheseindividuals
oftengraduatewithmoreloans.
o 2008:only3of112scholarships
restrictedtoparticulartracksor

areasofstudy(e.g.,feline
oncology)areforstudents
focusingonwildlifeoraquatic
animalmedicine.
Thescholarshipwouldonlycoverasmall
percentageofastudentsexpenses;yet,
themoneywouldservetwoimportant
purposes:
1. Asstrugglingstudents,anyextra
moneymatters.Thisscholarship
couldprovidefundingfor:
attendanceataconference,living
expensesduringanexternship,
participationinaworkshop,or
involvementinother
opportunitiesinpreparationfor
thisimportantcareer.
2. Thisscholarshipwouldrecognize
theequalimportanceofwildlife
medicine,showingstudentsthat
theirworkisvaluedand
encouragingthemtocontinueto
pursuethisfield.

WhatCanIDotoHelp?
Needed:$11,000tocreatetheendowment,allowingustosecureinperpetuitya
scholarshipforstudentsdevotedtothecareofwildandaquaticanimals.
Initialgoal:raise$5,500throughdonations;wepledgetomatchthosefunds(upto
$5,500)usingcurrentclubsavingsandadditionalfundraisingactivities.
