7. Plug the other end of the Rx cable into the port marked "Status Monitor", in the fiber optic section of the node. Refer to Figure 4. 8. Place the other end of the Tx cable to J5 "Status Monitoring In" in the fiber optic section of the node. See Figure 4. 9. Install the transponder on top of the fiber tray. It should face the front of the node. The transponders hinges should be at the rear of the node hanging over the fiber tray. Locate the eyelets on both ends of the rear faceplate of the transponder and position them in the tabs provided over the tray. See Figure 7 for proper placement of the transponder.

13. Locate the magnetic tamper switch on the "Interface Power Cable". It is important that the two parts align properly, as in Figure 8. 14. To do this, measure 10 inches from the left end of the housing and make a pencil mark. Do the same on the other half. Refer to Fig. 7. 15. Remove the adhesive backing from the harness side of the switch. Make sure that the edge of the switch is even with the top of the node wall and press it against the inside wall of the housing. Refer to Figure 7. Do the same with the non-cable side of the tamper switch on the other half, so that the two line up when the housing is closed.

Table 3 LED Information

LED TYPE CPU TX RX

LED INDICATOR
The LED glows solid red during the units boot cycle. When the LED blinks it indicates the transponders CPU is operating in PCODE and the transponder is ready for communications. When blinking it indicates the unit is responding to an inquiry from the HEC-3. When blinking it indicates the unit is receiving a signal from the HEC-3.

SECTION 4 - Troubleshooting Hardware

After installation, if the unit fails to operate properly, consult this list of possible problems. 1. Does the unit communicate with the controller? Check that your PC can connect to the controller by using the PING command. 2. Is it connected to the correct controller? It could be connecting to the wrong controller. Check the connection and the IP number. 3. Is the correct port selected? Check the port assignments, cables and RPS Name/Port (if applicable). The wrong port number could have been entered or the unit may be connected to a different port. 4. Was the correct device type selected when the unit was added to the monitoring software? Check the device type in the unit configuration screen and verify that the correct device type has been selected. To select the correct device type, delete the existing unit and select the correct device type before clicking the add button. 5. Has the correct address for the unit been entered? Check the address in the unit configuration screen against the documentation.

6. Do the controller frequencies match the device frequencies? A common problem is that the device frequencies do not match the controller frequencies. You will have to check the transponder device locally to see if the frequencies agree with the controller. The controller frequencies can be verified by checking the HEC port configuration screen. 7. Is the signal level too strong or too weak? Verify that signal levels are within Tollgrades specifications on forward and return paths. Sometimes padding may have to be added or removed because the signal between the unit and the controller is too weak or too strong.

SECTION 5 - Troubleshooting Software

1. Attempting to connect the HEC to the CMA via CheetahNet and it fails? Check to see if the HEC has the proper address of the CMA or use Test2Way, check the transmit and receive frequencies to make sure that they correspond to the receive and transmit frequencies on the HEC Headend Communications Controller. 2. Where can the IP address of the CMA be found? The address of the CMA is located on the label of each CMA and can be verified electronically using Test2Way.

3. When a device is found to be running in RCODE instead of PCODE, what does it mean and how can it be changed to PCODE? RCODE and PCODE are names for the active codes running in the devices CPU. These codes are similar to a computers operating system. When operating normally, the device starts up with PCODE as the active code. PCODE is the program code and contains all of the devices functions and parameters. If RCODE is active you can communicate with the device, and some of the devices internal commands are present. Two methods are available for checking RCODE or PCODE status; HTML Diagnostics in CheetahNet or Test2Way, via local connect. HTML Diagnostics On a CheetaNet computer, open a Browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) window.

TO FORCE THE UNIT TO RUN PCODE: 1. Click on CMA Diagnostic Options. 2. Click on CMA Misc. Attributes. 3. Enter the 5-digit Net Address of the device. 4. Enter the appropriate port (rf01, rf02, rf03, rf04). 5. Select CMA Send Command and enter 4652 0000\. 6. Select CMA Send Command Response and click Submit. The response will be:
Sent request to CMA DevMgr to set CMA SendCommand to 4652 0000. CMA Send Command Response = XX XX = 00 If successfully set XX = 01 If not successfully set, use TEST2WAY VIA LOCAL CONNECT:

TEST2WAY via Local Connect

1. Connect locally to the device using the RS232 Communication Device. 2. Run Test2Way. 3. Select (1) Connect Menu from the Main Menu. This will display the Connect Menu. 4. Select (3) Direct to Device from the Connect Menu. This will display the Device Connect Menu. 5. Select (4) CMA from the Device Connect Menu. This will attempt to connect to the device connected to the direct port cable. The user will be notified if the connection was successful. If so, proceed to the next step. 6. You should see the CMA Functions Main Menu. 7. Select (5), cv and check to see if the unit is running RCODE or PCODE. 8. To change from RCODE to PCODE, select (9), FR and reset the unit. Then wait one minute. The LED on the unit should begin to flash. Return to Step 7 to verify that the unit is operating properly. Reset the unit. Verify that it is operating in PCODE and ensure that the red LED is flashing.

To determine if the unit is in RCODE or PCODE:

1. 2. 3. 4. Click on CMA Diagnostic Options. Click on CMA Misc. Attributes Enter the 5-digit Net Address of the device. Enter the appropriate port (rf01, rf02, rf03, rf04). 5. Select CMA Send Command and enter 4356 0001. 6. Select CMA Send Command Response and click Submit. The response will be:
Sent request to CMA DevMgr to set CMA Send Command to 4356 0001. CMA Send Command Response = XXyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy XX = 50 Unit is in PCODE XX = 52 Unit is in RCODE
