K.R.M.SUHAIL UWU/SCT/08/0039 Innovations of science and technology

What is innovation?
The central meaning of innovation thus relates to renewal or improvement, with novelty being a consequence of this improvement. For an improvement to take place it is necessary for people to change the way they make decisions, or make choices outside of their norm. I am going to mention about related to mechatronics field

1. ATM Technology
For years the ATM has been the cornerstone of convenience and service; but consumers are redefining the meaning of this by increasingly demanding the functionality of cutting edge technologies in all aspects of their daily life. Call it the iPhone effect: The proliferation of smart phones over the past several years has yielded a consumer who is looking for technology that is cool, simple and connected.

2. Hybrid car A vehicle is a hybrid if it has more than one source of power. We have hybrid vehicles all around us such as diesel-electric trains, diesel-electric buses, and nuclear-electric submarines. Maybe some of you remember the Mo-Ped, a modified bicycle that used a combination of a gasoline engine and muscle power of its rider. In a similar manner, the gasoline-electric hybrid car is a combination of gasoline-powered car and an electric car.

3. driving 4G networks
We are fortunate to watch the evolution of new generation base stations which are playing an ever increasing role in delivering affordable broadband to masses. Commonly referred as compact base stations, are the latest base station design which was recently introduced in to the market by all major suppliers like Motorola, Huawei, ALU, Ericson, ZTE, Samsung etc.

4. 3D TV
The market for consumer 3D television sets is expanding at the enormous pace of a 75% annual growth rate, following the trend for popular movies shot in 3D. With this rapidly growing market, comes the need for standardization and affordable equipment. 5. Blu-ray disc

Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a duallayer disc.
6. GPS systems

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit .GPS satellites circle the earth twice a day in a very precise orbit and transmit signal information to earth. GPS receivers take this information and use triangulation to calculate the user's exact location. Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. 7. Open-source software and services The term open source describes practices in production and development that promote access to the end product's source materials. This is great innovations the era. Open source gained hold with the rise of the Internet, and the computing source code. Opening the source code enabled a self-enhancing diversity of production models, communication paths, and interactive communities.

8. From LCD TV to SED TV

A LCD TV was more practical and provided and better viewing quality than the CRT based TV. This small technological change has redefined the viewing quality of the TVs which have since then become flat panel, use less of power and offer better contrast ratios. The more recent technological change has been to use the SED technology, or the surface conduction electron-emitter display technology. These imbibe the qualities of the CRT TVs and the LCD displays. So, these offer you wide display angles, higher contrast ratios, wider viewing angles of the CRT TVs and thin and slim features of the LCD TV.

9. Media file compression (jpeg, mpeg, mp3)

This is another important innovation. Using this technology we can reduce the file capacity. This technology will apply on internet streaming also. But nowadays we have variety of file format to stream or download as reduced file size without effecting quality. For example media format to MP3, mpeg format to avi and we have the software as win zip to zip/compress the files

10.Touch screen or display A touchscreen is an electronic visual display that can detect the presence and location of a touch within the display area. The term generally refers to touching the display of the device with a finger or hand. Touchscreens are common in devices such as all-in-one computers, tablet computers, and smartphones. The touchscreen has two main attributes. First, it enables one to interact directly with what is displayed, rather than indirectly with a cursor controlled by a mouse or touchpad. Secondly, it lets one do so without requiring any intermediate device that would need to be held in the hand. Such displays can be attached to computers, or to networks as terminals. They also play a prominent role in the design of digital appliances such as the personal digital assistant (PDA), satellite navigation devices, mobile phones, and video games. Sources
