Benton Harbor Arts District Sat., Sept. 17, 12 - 10pm Artoberfest is a celebration of all that the Benton Harbor Arts District has to offer. You can expect to enjoy great food and beverages, live musical and dance performances. You can also peruse the works of local artists and take a piece of the Arts District home with you. $5 per person after 5pm.

FALL ART HOP Friday, October 21, 5 - 9pm Featuring the Opening Reception for SUSTAINABLE GRACE Metal Works of Lisa Elias Sustainable Grace is an exhibition of the fluidity and organic nature of Lisa Elias' artistic expression through metal. A wellknown artist from Minneapolis that has exhibited her works across the country, shares with us her Art Nuvaue inspired pieces in the Dorris Akers Gallery at Water Street Glassworks. The exhibit will be on display until Sat., Nov. 19. Lisa Elias will also be teaching two workshops Oct. 22: Trivets & Oct. 23: Candle Holders. See page 8 for more details.

Watch glassblowers create pumpkins, autumn leaves and more right before your eyes! Next door Water Street GelatoWorks will offer up seasonal gelato flavors and spooky Halloween treats. Hand blown fall items will be available for sale in the Dorris Akers Gallery until Sat., Nov. 19.
Saturday, November 19, 7pm Lecturer: Keith Moffat Join us for an evening with Keith Moffat and his extensive collection of European goblets dating back to the 18th century. Keith will show various examples of the hand blown vessels all while telling the story of the beverage evolution through the "art of the glass". This event is free and open to the public.

Class registration begins Tuesday, August 30 at 10am. All courses and rental times are based on Eastern Standard Time. OFFICE HOURS: Tues. - Thurs., 10am-5pm; Fri., 10am-6pm; Sat., 12am-4pm REGISTER: By phone (269) 925-5555 or in person during office hours. PAYMENT: Due no more than 5 days after registration and must be made through the office. (Instructors are not responsible for payments). Rental sign-up begins Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 10am. Hot shop rental hours are available only to students who have successfully completed intermediate level courses at WSG (or equivalent from another studio) and can safely demonstrate a proficient level of skill. Contact the office for an interview/audition. Sign up with a partner or one will be assigned to you. FALL HOT SHOP RENTAL HOURS: Mon., Wed. & Fri., 2-6pm Tues. & Thurs., 6-10pm LIMIT: 4 renters per session. SIGN-UP: Contact the Studio Manager at (269) 925-1944. No email registrations during first week of sign-up. PAYMENT: $70 per person, per session; shared bench. Full payment is due no more than 5 days after sign-up. CANCELLATION: No refunds after 7 days prior to date of rental. GLASSBLOWING TUTORING BY APPOINTMENT Instructors: Becky Wehmer & Eli Zilke If you have completed a glassblowing level but still feel a little behind, we now offer tutoring! Becky or Eli will work with you one-on-one to determine where you are having the most difficulty and help you improve your skills. You can schedule 2 hrs, 3 hrs, or 4 hrs. Sat. & Sun., Oct. 29 & 30, 9am - 2pm Instructor: Jerry Catania Move beyond the basic vessel and focus on the techniques and teamwork necessary to accurately and safely apply "bits" such as handles, feet, wraps and prunts. Exercises that develop these skills will be practiced and applied to your particular design interests. Prerequisite: Beginning 3 Weekend Workshop. Bring your own color. All other materials provided. Sun., Oct. 9, 10am-4pm OR Sun., Dec. 4, 10am - 4pm Instructor: Jerry Catania Apply the principle of centrifugal force to ladle cast glass and - voila! - you get one-of-a-kind, beautiful bowls. Form bowl shapes in sand and press in patterns to create one-use molds. Pour in the glass and spin for a winning, functional, work of art. Expect to make several pieces. No experience required. All materials provided. Bring a lunch. $150.
Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 Fri., 6-9 pm / Sat. & Sun., 10am5pm Instructor: Jerry Catania & Josh Andres Create your own ladle-cast glass and forged/fabricated metal sculptures for the garden in this weekend workshop. We'll start by learning how to ladle molten glass into sand molds and then move on to metal forging and welding. Expect to complete 12 garden sculptures by the end of the weekend. No experience required. All materials provided. Dress for mess and safety. Bring a lunch.$290.
Nov. 6, Sun., 10 5pm Visiting Instructor: Jody fine Have lots of fun with the legendary "Marble King", artist Jody Fine. Jody shares some Tricks of the Trade with special blowing techniques, marble making and cane pulling. Prerequisite Intermediate Glassblowing I. Bring your own color. Sat., Sept. 17, 1-5pm Instructors: Jerry Catania, Carolyn OHearn & Becky Wehmer Try your hand at several glass topics: paperweights, fusing and beadmaking in this sampler platter workshop. Expect to create one weight, two fused pieces and several beads. No experience required. All materials provided. $130.
Saturdays, Nov. 19 - Dec. 10, 9am - 12pm New Instructor: Eli Zilke In this class, students will learn to assemble Venetian goblets in parts. They will also learn the blown foot, blown stem and the blow pull method of blowing cups. Prerequisite Intermediate Glassblowing II. Bring your own color. All other materials provided. $195.
Sat., Oct. 8, 10am-6pm Visiting Instructor: Barbara Thomas Yerace Students will have ample hands-on experience as they learn the classic techniques of shaping the glass and adding color designs, creating beautiful unique ornaments. Wednesdays, Sept. 28, Oct. 5, 12, 19, 6 - 9pm Instructor: Kerri LeRoux Learn basic methods and techniques of making glass beads using a tabletop torch. Shape, mold and decorate molten glass into beads for use in jewelry. Learn wraps, stringers, dots, twisties and more! Instruction includes lecture, demonstration and lots of hands-on studio time. No experience required. All materials are provided.$145.
Sat., Nov. 5, 12-4pm Instructor: Kerri LeRoux Learn to weave wire into a beautiful Viking Knit chain. Viking Knit chain can be used to make necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Learn the technique for single, double and even triple-weave Viking Knit. When you leave class, you will have the tools and information needed to continue making Viking Knit at home. No experience required. All materials provided. $65.
Instructor: Kerri LeRoux Sat. & Sun., Oct. 22 & 23, 9am -1pm Learn how to make a variety of Halloween inspired beads to wear or display. Make children in pumpkin clothing, ghosts, webs, spiders and witches hats utilizing the minor torches. Prerequisite: Beginning Beadmaking. All materials provided. $115.
New Instructor: Eli Zilke Sat., Nov. 5, 9am - 1pm Students will learn about big bead and the steps to make them. Students can expect to use minor torches, large mandrels and learn about the process of annealing. Students will also learn to work with frit, apply silver leaf and many other new techniques. Prerequisite: Beginning Beadmaking. All materials provided. $75.
Instructor: Angela Caldwell Mondays., Oct. 10 & 17, 6 - 9pm Learn the basics of cold connections: rivets, tube rivets, prongs, and micro connectors while creating either links for a bracelet or a pendant/earring set. We will use copper and brass along with "odds and ends" peices of metal to create interesting combinations. Skills you will also learn are: cutting, hammering, sawing and how to make jump rings. No experience required. All materials are provided. $95.
Instructor: Kerri LeRoux Sat. & Sun., Dec. 3 & 4, 9am -1pm Learn how to make a variety of Christmas inspired beads to wear or display. Use the minor torches to make gumdrops, snowmen, trees, stripes, Christmas lights and Santa. Prerequisite: Beginning Beadmaking. All materials provided. $115.
Instructor: Angela Caldwell Mon., Dec. 5, 6 - 9pm Come and play with an assortment of wire. In thes class we will make free form 2-D and 3-D wire "assemblages" using various colors and gauges of wire. Instructor: Carolyn OHearn Saturdays, Oct. 22 & 29, 9am 12pm Like lines? This is the class for you! Using strips of glass bundled together on their edges, we will construct a substantial glass art panel for display or to slump for functional use. Think outside the box to create voids or irregular edges using fiber products. Prerequisite: Intermediate fusing class & proficiency cutting sheet glass. $145.
Instructor: Cindy Fielding Thurs., Sept. 15 & 22, 6-8pm Learn the fundamentals of glass fusing. This introductory class focuses on creating good designs, proper use of tools, different types of glass materials and techniques. Well complete 2 3 projects. If you have a design idea bring it with you! No experience required. All materials provided for basic projects. $85.
Instructor: Cindy Fielding Saturdays, Nov., 5 & 12, 10am 12pm Learn to mix custom colors, achieve special effects and fire enamels on glass. We will use liquid enamels and use techniques like wet pack method and sgrafitto to complete two projects. No experience required. All materials provided. $130.
Instructor: Carolyn OHearn Fridays Sept. 16 & 23, 4: 30pm 6pm OR Oct. 14 & 21, 4: 30pm 6pm Bring your imagination and your sketchbook as we learn to cut and shape glass, plan and complete your designs, and maybe add a few touches you would not expect to see in fused glass! Instructor: Carolyn OHearn Sat., Oct. 15, 10am 12pm For those who want to learn more about the details of kiln use, shelf preparation, firing schedules, terminology, product selection and side by side comparison of the variables. This class is a discussion format with some hands on experience with each of the steps including the determination and programming of firing schedules. Samples and notes provided. Instructor: Cindy Fielding Thursdays, Nov., 10 & 17, 6pm - 8pm We'll create two projects using fiber felt that add dimension to your glass. This technique looks great on simple clear glass or can be combined with additional transparent glasses and additional techniques. No experience required. All materials provided. $130.
KILN-FORMED GLASS
(1 hour project, 7 available timeslots) Instructor: Carolyn OHearn Fri., Dec. 9: 12pm, 2pm, 5pm and 7pm OR Sat., Dec. 10: 10am, 12pm, and 2pm Make an heirloom or a memory (or both!) Choose precut glass shapes to decorate. A variety of sparkly and specialty glass will be available for all ages to decorate their artwork. Ornaments will be fired and ready for pickup by December 16. Instructor: Carolyn OHearn Wednesdays, Oct. 5 - 26, 6 - 8pm Repurpose a wood-framed window (approx. 20x24) as a stained glass mosaic for display in your home or garden. No experience required. Bring your own gently used window or we will provide (add $20). All other materials provided. $115.

Saturdays, Nov. 19, 1 - 3pm, & Nov. 26, 1 - 5pm Instructor: Mary Jane McNish The first session is a quick learning class to prepare you for creating copper foil stained glass piece. You will learn what all the tools are for, and practice each step: cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering. The second class you will execute what you've learned to create your own sun catcher. No experience needed. All supplies provided. $95.
BEGINNING LEAD STAINED GLASS TECHNIQUES: LEADED STAINED GLASS WINDOW 2-week course
Wednesdays, Dec. 7, 7 - 9pm & Dec. 14, 7 - 8pm Instructor: Mary Jane McNish A mosaic trivet makes a nice gift or a colorful piece to match your dining area. Before class, prepare a 6" x 6" square design. The first evening you will create your design using pre-cut glass in a mold, then grout your piece. On the second day, you will seal the top with a water resistant top coat and take home your ready to use original trivet. No experience required. All materials provided. $55.
Saturdays, Sept. 24, 1 - 3pm & Oct. 1, 1 - 5pm Instructor: Mary Jane McNish Your first session is a quick learning class to prepare you for creating a leaded glass window. You will learn what all the tools are for and practice each step; work surface, pattern prep, cutting, grinding, fitting, soldering joints and framing. The second class you will execute what you've learned to create your own stained glass leaded window with a beautiful piece of beveled glass as the centerpiece. No experience required. All materials provided. $95.
Tuesdays, Sept. 13 - Oct. 4, 6 - 9pm Instructor: Ted Guimond This workshop is designed to accomodate the beginning blacksmithing student. Learn forging techniques and work on several of the following projects: nails, letter openers, S hooks, cooking implements and campfire hardware or a project of your own design. Beginning students must demonstrate prerequisite skills prior to starting an advanced project. Class will include fire tending, hammering techniques, decorative twists, use of special tools and more. No experience required. All materials provided. $210.
Mondays, Sept. 12 - Oct. 3, 6 - 9pm Instructor: Aaron Closson Creative Welding is open to all levels of student with or without previous experience and is geared toward artistic welding and metalworking. Learn safety in the studio and how to handle the tools and machinery in order to cut, bend, hammer, torch and weld steel to create metal artwork. No experience required. All materials provided. $210.

You will be introduced to forge welding, a variety of surface treatments, and decorative twists used in blacksmithing. Learn about heat-treating and tempering steel while making your own tools. Sat., Dec. 10, 12-4pm Instructors: Josh Andres Enhance your metalworking skills as you use welders, plasma cutters, torches, hammers, and grinders to apply different textures and finishes to your pieces.
