ENGLISH 11 CP: IDEAL/RAAD PARTICIPATION d IDEAL/ TOTALLY RAAD ENGLISH STUDENT [English Warrior Status]

NAME: ____________________ IDEAL/ RAAD ENGLISH STUDENT IN WAITING [Learned Helplessness?]

I never raise my hand in class and usually do not try to answer when called upon (e.g. I say I dont know and do not try to make an educated guess or ask a clarifying question) I often call out answers I generally look away from the speaker (down at my desk, around the room, at other classmates) I am usually lost in my own thoughts and often have little to no idea as to what is going on in class At times, I make noises or have side conversations when others are talking When faced with a difficult or unappealing activity / task, I avoid starting and often do not finish I find it difficult to ask for help and tend to avoid opportunities for help when it is offered If I am unsure of a response, I generally tune out and wait for someone else to answer (i.e. I dont even try to come up with possible answers in my head) I do my own work sometimes but it is rarely my best work I often do not complete homework I often do not complete classwork I need multiple reminders to submit late work

ALMOST IDEAL/ RAAD ENGLISH STUDENT [I think I canI think I can]

I raise my hand to contribute more than once per class I wait until I am called upon before answering If Im not sure of an answer ,I ask a relevant question

I raise my hand approximately one time per class I answer when called upon

I face the speaker (teacher or peer) I make appropriate comments and ask questions (small group or whole class) I use non-verbal communication to show I am listening (head nods, smile, thinking face)

I face the speaker when requested to do so I ask questions in small groups I think about what is being said but dont always show my reactions With encouragement and perhaps some hesitation, I try new activities/ skills even if they are difficult or unappealing at first I accept help if it is offered but dont always ask for it I share possible answers in small groups if I am unsure With prompting, I use resources (e.g. text/notes) to find an answer I do my own best work most of the time (e.g. at times I rush or dont leave enough time) I am honest with my teachers when I dont have my work done but I dont always tell them in advance

I am always willing to try a new activity/ skill even if it is difficult or unappealing I ask for help if I am stuck or struggling I use resources and offer possible answers even if Im not 100% sure I encourage others to take academic risks I volunteer to perform

I do my own best work at all times (e.g. I never copy the work of others and always give work my best effort) I have my work done on time or I contact my teachers to let them know if work is incomplete
