Isochronal Test
The objective of isochronal testing is to obtain data to establish a stabilized deliverability curve for a gas well without flowing the well for sufficiently long to achieve stabilized conditions (ri >re). This procedure is needed for lower-permeability reservoirs where it frequently is reservoirs, impractical to achieve ri =re during the test. This test is conducted as follows: 11 flowing a well at a fixed rate then shutting it in until the rate, pressure_builds up to an unchanging (or almost unchanging) value , p . 2- The well then is flowed at a second rate for the same length of g time, followed by another shut-in , etc. 3- If possible, the final flow period should be long enough to achieve stabilized flow. g

4- If this is impossible or impractical, it is still possible to predict the stabilized deliverability characteristics (with increased potential for error of course) error, course). 5- For each rate BHF is recorded as a function of time.

The figure illustrates the following important points about the isochronal testing sequence. 1- Flow periods, excepting the final one, are of equal length [i.e., t1 =(t3 -t2)=(t5 - t 4 ) ( t 7 -t6)]. [i e t2)=(t5 t6)] 2- Shut-in periods have the objective of letting _ p=p rather than the objective of equal length. Thus, in general, ( t 2 - t l ) # (t4-t3)# (t6 -t5). 3- A final flow period in which the well stabilizes ( , (i.e., ri reaches re at time t7) is desirable but not essential. ) Example of the Data given 1- Initial shut-in ( how long and what pressure is ) 22 First flow ( how long and the values of BHP and q) 3- First shut-in (???) 4- Second flow (???)

5- Second shut-in ( ???) ) 6- Third flow ( ???) 7- Third shut-in ( ???) 8- Fourth flow (???) 9- Extended flow ( duration of time? BHP, q) 10- Final h t in 10 Fi l shut- i Two methods may be used to analyze this test, to Determine stabilized deliverability curve and AOF AOF. A- Empirical method B- Theoretical Method

From a plot of P Pwf2 versus qg on log-log paper get P log log paper, the slope of the best straight line.

So the deliverability equation can be estimated. If the stabilized rate is known, the straight line which goes through this point is used to find AOF. To get AOF , we need to find q at pwf=0 pwf=0.
