Delivering Interactive Distance Experiences Through Telepresence Learning

Polycoms Solutions for Distance Learning Seminar 24 May 2011 Sunway Hotel, Resort & Spa Educators and trainers today are constantly challenged by the need to retain the attention of students and deliver interesting and interactive learning programmes in schools. In order to satisfy such objectives, many are turning to visual collaboration technologies. Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ:PLCM), a global leader in unified communications solutions, and its authorised service and distributing partner in Malaysia, Atek Technology, recently held the Polycom Solutions for Distance Learning seminar for Malaysian educators to demonstrate the transformative impact collaborative communications technology can have on the education sector in delivering highly interactive and engaging distance learning experiences to students, taking them beyond the four walls of the classroom. The seminar offered inspirational insights as to how educators can make learning and teaching more engaging through the use of high quality video and telepresence, and demonstrated the potential of experiential educational exchange in delivering global learning experiences, creating location liberation so people can have more engaging conversations in new ways that defy the boundaries of distance, cost and time. Speaking to Malaysian attendees all the way from San Antonio, Texas, USA, Polycoms Global Director for Education, and the Chair Emeritus and Past President of the United States Distance Learning Association, Ms. Marci Powell, shared her insights on learning and educational technologies that empower, enrich and collaborate curriculum globally, offering educators tips and thought provoking ideas on how to enhance and enrich classroom learning through video and telepresence technology. The Polycom Solutions for Distance Learning seminar provides a fantastic opportunity for esteemed educators to come together to explore the current trends and best practices impacting the way we teach, as we transform the learning environment to motivate and engage students. Enabled by virtual technologies and more ubiquitous Internet access, educational institutions are now more empowered than ever to meet the demands of our rapidly changing society, said Ms. Powell. During the seminar, attendees were taken on an interactive virtual field trip through the Australian Great Barrier Reef, diving alongside the park guides and interacting in real-time as they showcased the wonders of life under the sea, exploring a variety of reefs and marine life via live video-conferencing. The guide also took guests through the predator tank, in what proved to be the highlight of the day, with participants experiencing in real-time the feeling of being entrenched in an underwater tank with sharks.
