Dear Friends, Strict and Particular Baptist Chapel - Waddesdon Hill - (near Aylesbury), Buckinghamshire: Waddesdon Hill chapel opened in 1792, being founded by Francis Cox, a local farmer, and is a Grade II* listed building. In the nineteenth century there were seventy members meeting here and the work flourished during the pastorate of Alfred Coughtrey (1866-73) who was later to become the editor of The Gospel Standard magazine from 1891-98. The chapel closed in 1976, and was later taken into the ownership of the Friends of Friendless Churches, a charity based in London, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2007. The Friends look after over 40 former places of worship, half in England and half in Wales. In recent years, they have carried out restoration work on the stable block (where worshippers would tether their horses) and on the exterior of Waddesdon Hill Chapel. During each September 2007 to 2009, services of worship have been held at Waddesdon Hill and good congregations have gathered to hear the Word of God preached once again in this historic place. Some were local people interested in visiting and worshipping in the building and others have come from far and wide. The service now has now become an annual event, and I am writing to notify you that this years service will be held (God willing) on Saturday 3rd September 2011, commencing at 2.30pm. A poster is enclosed and it will be appreciated if you can give the service some publicity. A collection will be taken for the Friends of Friendless Churches. Having preached myself on the past five occasions, this year we look forward to welcoming Pastor Simon L Ward of Newcastle upon Tyne as the guest preacher. Please bring AV Bibles and Gadsbys Hymns if possible but there will be plenty of spares available. Please also note that the chapel does not have any heating, lighting, or toilet facilities. The nearest public toilets are in Waddesdon village, two miles away. Refreshments will kindly be provided at Upper Winchendon Church (one mile away) following the service, by courtesy of the Church officers there. Thank you for your assistance, Yours sincerely in Christ,

Kevin M Price.
