SULYAPINOY POEM CONTEST 2008

In line with the upcoming SULYAPINOY 1st Anniversary celebration on November 2,


2008, the SULYAPINOY is launching a ‘Poem Contest’ to be participated by any
individuals who have talents in poem composition.

Guidelines:

1. The theme for the composition is about “SULYAPINOY... its humble beginning
and the way it has come this far...”
2. The composition must use a Filipino language.
3. Any individuals may participate the contest except the members of SULYAPINOY
editorial staff.
4. There must be only one entry per participants.
5. Length of poem composition must be... 5~6 stanzas, 4 lines per stanza, and with
a maximum of 8 words per line.
Note: Please follow guideline #5 strictly. Corresponding points shall be deducted
for any violation of the guidelines.
6. Submission of entries will start from October 1 to 17.
7. Entries must be emailed to editorialstaff@sulyapinoy.org with complete name,
address, contact number, and name of organization or community (if applicable)
of the poet.
8. The steering committee is composed of all SULYAPINOY editorial staff and
board of publication headed by literary editor as committee chairman.
9. All entries will be posted in the website on October 18, 2008.
10. Announcement of winners (1st ~ 5th) shall be made on November 1, 2008 thru
SULYAPINOY website.
11. Winners’ entry will be published in the SULAPINOY 12th issue to be released on
November 2, 2008.
12. Winners shall receive a surprise award in courtesy of SULYAPINOY.
Criteria:

The steering committee will consider the following when selecting the winning
poems:

1. Aptness of title - The title chosen reveals that the poet knows and cares about
the theme of the poem contest.
2. Impact - The poem evokes a response in the reader, appealing to the emotions,
senses and intellect.
3. Creativity - Originality of subject or theme; unique use of poetic elements such
as figurative language, imagery or rhyme.
4. Cohesiveness - Development of theme (the meaning of the poem): The poem's
unity, clarity and completeness.
5. Craftsmanship - The poet uses language in a fresh way, avoiding clichés and
forced rhyme; pays attention to the sound of the words; and uses language
precisely and economically, maintaining a consistent voice. Includes aptness of
phrase, assonance, alliteration, rhythmic quality, absence of redundancy.
