Vines as thick as a man's leg hang down like the tentacles of a monstrous squid. A giant, matted dorway that shuts out the rest of the world. A snake slithers toward the edge of a small pond. Across the pond, embraced by the primeval world around it, the entrance to a cave. A legion of half-naked men, women, and children emerge from the dark confines of the cave. The Inca have arrived at their destination - Cuzco. According to legend, the Incan civilization began when the first Inca king, Manco Capac, sank the tapac-yauri (a golden staff) into the earth and founded the Kingdom of Curzo in 1200. After a long journey through the underworld, the Inca arrived at Cuzco, where they built a Temple of the Sun to honor Inti, the sun god. In 1442, the Inca Empire began to expand and (within three generations) had dominion over large areas of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, and Colombia. One can only wonder at what the Inca would make of modern-day Colombian drug cartels. In 1533, Spanish Conquistadores under Francisco Pizarro conquered most of the Inca Empire, establishing the Viceroyalty of Peru in 1542. Inca resistance came to an end in 1573. Though long vanished, the cultural traditions of the Inca have been passed verbally from one generation of indigenous descendants to the other. Inca Magic The Incas believed that everything in nature had two attendant comaquen (spirits), they would invoke in solemn rituals. A form of sex magic also was practiced in which a man, having first brought a woman to ‘orgasm, would chew the leaves of a coca plant to receive health and happiness. An important ingredient of Inca magic was the huaca, an object that represented someting sacred and revered. | have taken the essence of "huacan magic" and incorporated it into an easy-to-work magical system. | will show you how to create a "symbol" of what you want to see happen in your life, and how to experience its actual manifestation. Part One: Incan Gods The Inca calendar had 12 months of 30 days, with each month having its own festival of food, drink, and entertainment dedicated to certain gods. The largest and most important Inca festival was Inti Raymi, the festival of the sun god, during which aqhachicha (a type of maize beer) was drank by all who attended. Arecreation of this festival is still performed today. Indigenous descendants of the Inca gather in the center of large fields to await a god-man ona throne of gold. Hundreds of colorfully dressed drummers, dancers, flutists, and conch players herald the god-man's arrival at a central pyramid, where he re-enacts the ancient rituals of sun worship. Along with a state imposed religion dedicated to the sun god Inti, various gods were worshipped by the Incan empire's ‘subjects: 3
