Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of Summer. Swimming pools are closed, school is in session, and the beginning of football season is here. Half of our company is turning over, and we have crossed the midway point of our deployment. Those who are serving the 12-month tour are taking turns on rest and relaxation leave. We have already welcomed aboard 25 percent of those deploying to join our efforts in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 11.2. Corps Community Services, Postal, and Personnel Retrieval and Processing). For those redeploying, return and reunion is an especially emotional time for both the family and the Marine or Sailor, and it requires patience and understanding on the part of everyone during this readjustment period. Best of luck to all facing this joyous time and challenge. September is full of patriotic events as we celebrate Americas productivity by kicking off the month with Labor Day. We then commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on Patriot Day. A week later, our nation expresses appreciation for those sacrifices that prisoners of war and those missing in action have made, on National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Last but not least, as highlighted in green on the front page of this newsletter, on Thursday, 15 September, the FRO has scheduled a luncheon for spouses of deployed Marines and Sailors, and on Monday, September 19, another Jump-N-Jax potluck dinner, just for our families. Prayer Works
Chaplain Michael Tomlinson

As hurricane Irene headed toward North Carolina, I was reminded of how little control we have on the forces of nature. But I can attest to the power of prayer and Gods love. While serving with 1st Battalion, 2d Marines (1/2), I learned quickly there was a morale killer 1/2 couldnt influence the weather. During a cold December field exercise (FEX), they were worried wed get freezing rain. To reassure them, I said, You dont have to worry about rain as long as me and RP (Religious Person), my assistant, are with you. I probably shouldnt have been so bold, but the British Special Air Services motto is, (He) Who Dares, Wins! I told them, I know the God that controls the weather and hell answer my prayers. I may have been presumptive, but God was generous, and it never rained on 1/2 while RP and I were with them. Throughout the year, it snowed, and it was hot with bugs, but it did not rain on us in the field. In war, there will be deaths and injuries (that is the nature of war), but even in war, God performs miracles. The other day, I was talking to a Marine dog handler (a good Christian from the Lutheran Missouri Synod) whose canine Marine literally laid on an improvised explosive device (IED) to save his and two other Marines lives. The Marine told me, with misty eyes and a sense of awe in his voice, It wasnt an accident. What was it? It was an act of love and a miracle of one Marine sacrificing to save other Marines. Know that prayer works even when you least expect it. Remember to respect others and insure theyre ready to listen before sharing. That way you both can benefit from the wisdom of the Patriots who gave us our Constitution the guarantor of our freedom and liberty.

This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave. ~Elmer Davis

From the First Sergeant

1stSgt Jerry Lopez

thank our family and friends for their constant support and motivation. Semper Fi!

September is here, and we are halfway through our deployment. Some of our Warriors finished their deployment in August, and others began theirs. As we continue long work days, these Marines and Sailors show constant motivation to accomplish the mission and ensure that their replacements are set up for success. The past month was another great month for the 2d MLG (Fwd) headquarters as we added some new additions to our Warrior family, and some outstanding Marines and Sailors were recognized for their hard work and accomplishments. I would like to welcome our newest members to the 2d MLG family: Ariya Leger, daughter of Corporal Jonathan and Nakyshi Leger (Landing Support Detachment), born on August 9. Also, Raymond Edward Peel, son of Sergeant John and Franchely Peel (MCCS), born on August 10. Congratulations to these families, and we would like to welcome our new baby devil pups to the family. Sergeant Hill from Landing Support Detachment (Landing Support Det) was recently selected for the Marine Corps Leagues Sergeant Harry D. Myers Award for logistics excellence. Sergeant Hill will receive this award in October 2011. We also conducted several boards this past month for Combat Meritorious Corporal and Senior Sailor of the Quarter as well as Blue Jacket of the Quarter. Lance Corporal Jarmarus Greeley III (Disbo) and Lance Corporal Charles Shoenfelt III (G-6) won the Combat Meritorious Corporal boards at both levels, at both the Company and Group Levels. The Blue Jacket of the Quarter (3rd Quarter) was Hospitalman Joshua McFarland (Enhanced Partnering Team), and Hospital Corpsman First Class Patrick McElhinny (EPT) won the Senior Sailor of the Quarter (3rd Quarter). Both of these outstanding Sailors won at the Company Level and are currently competing at the Group Level. Last but not least, I want to
