MODULE 14 : AIR PRESSURE SECTION A 1. If we enclose a gas within a container, we will defect a pressure in the gas. This is due to A B C D 2. the expansion of the molecules of gas. the chemical energy stored in the gas. the attractive force between the molecules of gas. the collision of molecules of gas with the walls of the container.

A balloon filled with gas is placed in a closed gas jar. When the air inside the gas jar is pumped out slowly, the balloon A B C D becomes bigger. becomes smaller. becomes bigger, then smaller. becomes smaller, then bigger.

As you climb higher to the top of a mountain. The number of molecules of air in the surrounding decreases because A B C D air layer is thinner. air layer is thicker. air exerts more pressure on your ears. air pressure inside your ear is lower than air pressure in the surrounding.

Figure 1 Figure 1 shows an experiment conducted by Halim. He heated water in an open can until it boils. He capped it tightly, then he cooled it rapidly by running cold water over it. What is can be observed? I II III It shows the pressure of air. When the can was capped tightly, no air could get into or out of the can. When the water inside the can was cooled rapidly, the pressure inside the can decreases.

Figure 2 A cardboard was placed over a glass filled with water. The glass was quickly inverted. The water is kept within the glass without falling as shown in figure 2. The explanation for this is A B C D 6 the attractive force between the molecules of water increases. the atmospheric pressure exert force upward on the cardboard. the collision of molecules of water with the cardboard increases. the pressure in the glass is higher than the atmospheric pressure.

Which of the following are about air pressure? I II III A B C D Air pressure does not change with weather. Air pressure is lower at high altitude due to the thinner air. Air pressure is the force exerted on you by the molecules of air. I and II only I and III only II and III only I, II and III

Which of the following objects used the principle of air pressure to work? I II III A B C D Siphon Syringe Microscope I and II only I and III only II and III only I, II and III

Figure 3 Figure 3 shows a boy trying to suck up water but water did not rise up the straw into his mouth. This happens because the air pressure in the straw is A B C D 9 lower than water pressure. lower than atmospheric pressure. higher than atmospheric pressure. same as the atmospheric pressure.

Gas use for cooking is kept in tanks in the form of liquid. Which of the following methods ensures gas to be in the form of liquid? A B C D Gas is kept in metal tanks. Gas is kept at high pressure. Gas is kept at high temperature. Gas is kept lower than sea level.
